She was extremely helpful in explaining the home appraisal process, how that affects property taxes, and how to protest an appraisal if needed. I would give them -1,000 stars if I could. I just finished my hearing for property appraisal protest. I lost despite the fact that I presented clear evidence that my appraisal was inaccurate. What bothers me is that the panel was unprofessional and rude. They had their mind made up in the first few seconds, without considering my evidence. I presented a comp from a house on my street. Similar to ours, it was a new build in the same year and sold in the same year. It is on the same street, one block down. That house is 1,000 sq feet larger than ours but has an appraisal from DCAD that is $100,000 less. How is it possible? The smaller house has a higher appraisal. The panel dismissed this comp and started talking about houses on streets I never heard of rather than considering the relevant comp on the same street. The ideal comp is from a house on your own street. For the panel to dismiss this comp is beyond belief. The panel appeared angry that I protested last year. Well, DCAD valued my house at more than the purchase price, so I would have been a fool not to protest. I won last year. It is my legal right to protest every single year if I so choose and do so without prejudice against me. This was not done. I don't know who the panel members are. If they are DCAD employees then that is a conflict of interest. If they are someone else, they need to find people who can act professionally and who understand how comparables work. No Stars from me; had to pick at least one star. I prepared a 7 minute presentation with overwhelming evidence to challenge my 19% assessment increase, 25% for land value!!! Felt like I was talking to crickets. I feel they just provided a forum for protest just to "check to box"; I wasn't going to get anywhere with them. I live in Dallas County and specifically, in Coppell, so afterwards, I bought Municipal Bonds from both entities via Fidelity. You can't beat them so, get something back. read more

If I could give negative I would, they raised the land value doubled in my neighborhood Hillside , based on sales far away, not in this neighborhood, there were no land sales to support the value. They also raised my improvements based on improvements that I did not make from last year, so I have to re - picture, and go throught the groveling to make them change it to what it should be. This place is a disgrace. No one has any clue about appraisal. They also used a sale of a very expensive home in Highland Park as a comparable to my uninhabitable tiny home in Dallas. I am 77 years old and cannot drive to Stemmons Freeway since my auto's messed up and I can"t afford fixing it. But, I surely want to know how my house was appraised more than it's worth since I can"t even afford to repair it. It's needing to be completely remodeled and yet I'm paying more this year for "improvements"! What improvements pray tell?! And my levy amount's gone up $52 this year! That's O.K., right? When you're a senior woman, you're gonna die probably soon enough so who cares? In the meantime, illegals get all kinds of freeby monies to relocate wherever, get tax credits of $1800 for each little bastards they give birth to like rabbits, native Americans who have NOTHING, NADA, will live how after the tornados and they lost everything! But it's funny how everything's gone totally nuts in this country! So, you guys don't even know anything about my house but you decide to appraise it another $7,180 this year! They put all on information in the trash! On election day we had a hearing to dispute our appraisal it was a large bid in front of the building we put our information in it, and it was put in the trash! Who does this but Dallas Central Appraisal Office! Manger stated we are going to find you information and call you back! That was a lie! Shut this place down and find some new workers. read more

It's the government and it's dealing with the taxes on your home, so it's kind of like giving 5 stars for a root canal...not gonna happen no matter how good the experience! That said, I've been there twice expecting long lines and rude people and instead I've always walked straight in to be served and met someone very helpful and friendly. I would give the service 5 stars, but must reserve 2 for the mere fact that we're talking about my hard earned dollars. read more

The property taxes that I owed in 2019 was $2,800.00. The next year in 2020 they increased property taxes I owed to over $5,000.00. I could not afford to stay in Dallas, TX. I am glad I left Dallas. I was surprised to find other places property taxes are much lower. That was completely ridiculous to raise the property taxes that I owed to that amount. read more

Amazing is all I can say. The staff from the time we walk thru the front door was welcoming and asked if we needed assistance. The young lady which helped us downstairs more then did her job. However, to finish up we had to go upstairs and she called ahead and had staff waiting at the elevator to assist us. Now that is customer services. All was completed the same day within 30 minuets. Loved how the staff made me feel at this office. It let me know that customer service is still alive. Good job!!!!! read more

I went here to fight my appraisal and everyone told me I was wasting my time. I have to say... they were wrong! I found the board to be very fair if you have a good argument to the rating and you bring your evidence. I also thought the building, process and such were all great. They even made fresh ice tea for the people coming in! All of the staff were professional and polite... this place is nothing like a standard government operation! read more

I too dragged my feet going there thinking it will be a long line and a waste of my time. I was wrong. I went in to settle an issue with name change, walked in the first office on the right side, and quickly directly to the correct floor and personnel I need to talk to. My issue was looked at immediately by a lady who personally greeted me in person. The error was corrected within 45 minutes (but most of the time was spent by her researching because the issue was sort of complicated that involved multiple heirship names issue). Needless to say, they are nothing what I typically think of a government office with sad faces and slow movement. Thank you, whoever leading his division is doing something right. read more

We recently received the property tax appraisal from the Dallas Central Appraisal Office which is telling us that our property tax is going to increase due to a +12.8% increase in Market Value for 2012. What seems odd is that when I looked at all of my neighbor's appraisals on the street that we live on I found that their Market Value is going down -4.5%. That's over a 17% difference between us and everyone else on the street. I submitted my application to protest and went to the appraiser's office today for my informal hearing. The gentlemen I spoke with was very courteous but basically told me that he could do nothing to help us adjust our tax rate even though the closest two homes they are using to compare mine with were both appraised at $8,000 less than ours. I made note with the appraiser that while all the other houses on my street had been depreciated by 30% with an Average Market Value of $100K ours had been depreciated only by 20% to a Market Value of $126,720. The appraiser shifted the conversation away from the depreciation issue by apologizing about the overcharge and told me that he could not adjust our appraisal at all for this year simply because they are basing all of this on the $128,000 that I overpaid for my home last year and nothing else even though all the other cookie-cutter homes on my street which are nearly identical are being valued at $100,000. Seems very unfair to me and this is the first time in my life that I have ever had such an upside-down property tax appraisal by anyone. I'm now considering leaving Texas and taking my chances in a different state that will treat my family more fairly than I am being treated here in Dallas. read more
