I can't say enough good things about Damon Automotive! On my way to Northern Michigan from Chicago, my check engine light started blinking on my Wrangler just past Mile Marker 1. I pulled over around Mile 12, searched for a nearby repair shop, and found Damon--just two miles away with amazing reviews. And let me tell you, those reviews are well-earned! I pulled in, stressed and unsure if anyone would be able to help that day. Brian and Kayla greeted me with patience and understanding, and despite their busy schedule, they found time to check out my car. Not only did they diagnose the issue quickly, but they also got the part, made the repair, and had me back on the road in just two hours. Everyone I encountered was kind, honest, and incredibly down-to-earth. They even let me hang out in their lobby with my two dogs! The space was clean, welcoming, and decorated with fun automotive memorabilia. The bathroom was spotless too--which is always a plus when you're traveling. On a summer Sunday afternoon (during Mercury retrograde) I drove from Chicago to Harbert to visit old friends and intended to return home. After we drove to Galien and back for lunch, I pulled into their driveway, turned off the ignition, and moments later, when I went to restart the car, it was completely dead. Nothing. I called roadside assistance for a jump, but oddly enough, the battery tested fine. And yet, the car wouldn't start. My mood shifted suddenly from optimism to ominous anticipation. Was it the starter? Alternator? Then, an odd alert said to check the transmission, which sank me into grieving the loss of my 12-year-old Fiat 500. So, I stayed overnight, called for a tow first thing Monday morning, and hoped against hope it wasn't the end. I called Damon with a heads-up, and Kayla was patient and professional on the phone with distraught needy me. I understood they couldn't promise when it might be done. I was coming out of the blue into a busy shop with many repairs in progress and appointments for maintenance. I decided to leave it and rent a car, as I expected the worst and had to be back in Chicago. But right before I was about to get on the tollway, Kayla called to tell me they had diagnosed and fixed the car!! Underpromise and overdeliver! It was running just fine! So, I turned right around, drove back, and paid for the car, returned the rental, and made it back in time! The thick braided earthing strap beneath the battery had frayed and disintegrated, so the contact was broken, wreaking havoc. Brilliant diagnostics. Damon Automotive replaced it in a snap, and the price was right! Everyone in the shop was kind and straightforward. The customer service was gracious. Damon Automotive fixed my damage for me speedy quick and got me back on the road to finish my girls weekend. Super nice guy, put a lot of heart into his work . An honest mechanic is not that hard to find - you just have get to Damon Automotive on Red Arrow in Sawyer, about 90 minutes from Chicago. Bob and his guys are well skilled at modern cars - but they've taken care of my vintage Land Cruiser for the past several years and I couldn't be happier. Recently, I failed to know how to engage my choke and expected it would need to be replaced. Upon description - Bob told me what the problem was (me) and showed me how to solve it. While it is reasonable to assume that what he did was the right thing - finding someone to do it and not stick you with a bill is something altogether different. I've paid for other services - but letting me off the hook for my ignorance was appreciated above all other things. read more

Wow great service! I was traveling down the highway when I had an unforeseen failure of one of my rear brakes. Hard grinding told me that I couldn't drive any further and I made my way off the highway and somehow found this place. I am glad that I did! I explained my plight to Bob Damon of the Damon Automotive Professional Car Clinic at 12514 Red arrow Hwy. I considered my situation dire since I was not a local resident and I was hours from home with a truck I couldn't drive. He had the perfect chance to rake me over the coals or just tell me to go someplace else. He made me a priority repair, at a price that was better than anything I am use to. The first time I went there three years ago, not only did they fit my car in quickly, but the price was remarkable, and Bob the owner is incredibly knowledge and so so kind. Absolutely the nicest people here! Driving from Chicago to Detroit my car broke down at 10pm in Sawyer, MI, I was able to get a tow to Damons auto and left my car there overnight with a note and had to stay at a nearby motel. They were able to fix my car the next morning and even picked me up from the motel. Highly recommend!!! Good people. read more

For starters I dropped by mid day to ask about all the lights that kept appearing on my dash. I expected that Bob would give me an appointment to come back for a check up but instead he took the time to diagnose the problem right there. He checked a few things under the hood then hooked my car up to the computer. He spent a good 30 minutes on this even though I could tell he was busy at the time. I dropped my car off a few days later for the repairs, he ran me back home, had my car fixed within 24 hours and again picked me up at my house. He also gave my car a once over and let me know what needed to be repaired, and what I needed to keep an eye on. I expected the total cost to be more than it was. I have to say that I am completely satisfied and relieved that I have found a mechanic who will get all my future business. read more

Bob Damon, owner of Damon Automotive, bailed me out on my recent trip through Michigan. After towing my vehicle due to complete transmission failure to his shop, he analyzed the situation and diagnosed that it would need a transmission replacement. I had to leave the vehicle there and without hesitation, Bob drove me 15 miles to the nearest car rental agency. His helpfulness and honesty was far beyond what I normally receive from any auto repair shop. Without his generous help, I would have been completely stranded and my plans to celebrate my 40th wedding anniversary with my wife would have been completely ruined. Thank you again, Bob! Just took my car in today. We are visiting from Chicago and the car started stuttering when we were on the off ramp. Made it to our hotel. Took the car in after checking in. The stuttering went away. It the check engine light remained on. Took it to this shop for peace of mind. He was on his way out but was kind enough to check my car. Looks like I should have a tune up but can wait until we return home. No charge! Such nice people! read more

i just took my car here last night. I was stranded in a snow storm on the side of the road just outside Sawyer due to a failed alternator (as a result of a faulty install job done at my local dealership the week prior). AAA towed me to the nearest repair shop, which so happened to be Damon Automotive. I have never been so impressed with the level of efficiency and customer service at any other car repair place. They were able to examine my car first thing in the morning and kept me updated at the top of each hour to let me know how things were progressing and to assure me of their knowledge and care for my vehicle. After diagnosing the problem, the owner even drove all the way out to the hotel I was staying at to pick me up (due to my lack of transportation). Amazing service, extremely knowledgable technicians, and incredibly sweet people. They made a horrible situation more positive than I could have imagined. read more
