I've been taking adult open classes here for about a year and find that most evening and weekend classes tend to be crowded, so try a weekday daytime class if you can. There's street parking on Wisconsin Ave and side streets or discounted parking in the Giant Foods garage (remember to get your parking validation from the receptionist). While the faculty each have their own styles, all the ones I've taken from are top-notch instructors who were former (or are currently) professional ballet company dancers. I think I've finally figured out the five levels for adult classes, which are not as they're labeled, IMO: - Beginning 1. For dancers in their first couple years of ballet study, or who are rehabbing after not dancing for 1+ years. The teacher will explain ballet terminology. - Beginning 2. Not actually for beginners. Full barre and center combinations. - Advanced beginning. If tombe-pas de bourree-glissade-saut de chat is in your muscle memory. - Intermediate I. Dancers are doing double-plus pirouettes. Petite allegro can have jumps with beats. Combos are more intricate, challenging... and FUN! - Intermediate II. You'll see some dancers en pointe, and pros occasionally drop in. The class moves fast, where the teacher doesn't even have to fully demonstrate the combo yet everyone knows what they're doing. Fouette turns. If you're on the fence about which level to attend, I recommend trying the safer/lower level first, then moving up as you become comfortable. Overall, TWSB is a wonderful place to take ballet class in the DMV area!

The first year, we took our kids to the Bethesda school since the Petworth location was already booked. We planned ahead for this summer and booked our kids at the Petworth school. Both locations had the same high quality of instruction. We have somewhat shy kids, and both locations really helped them gain that confidence to perform. We also really like that the schools are bi-lingual. We have been teaching our kids Spanish, and like that they continue to get this language integrated into their daily learning. The school offers a wide range of classes. The first year, the class was more about modern dance and hip hop (by the way, hilarious with 4 year-olds). This past class, was tap dancing (again, pretty entertaining). This is one of the better summer camps. I can tell my kids love it, even if when I ask them, they only give me 2 word responses like, "It's good!"

Let me give you the run down: Booking online is made so easy through MindBody. If you're like me and love group fitness or activities, the app is the best way to add, modify, and delete sessions from your calendar. When purchasing the monthly pass, (which was only $90 for the first time!), you'll be able to select any session that piques your interest and directly add it to your digital calendar. Upon arrival, the friendly receptionists will get you signed in and tell you which studio you're in. You can wait in that seating area for a moment if you are early, or head right on in and use the cubbies for storing your items. Literally my ONLY recommendation to the team would be for the receptionists to share where the bathroom is located... It took me until the second session (the same night) to realize it was behind the door at the back of the Studio A. My first class was Dance Fitness with Mario Cervantes. The class was nothing short of awesome. He had such a radiant and contagious energy that got the whole class moving in this full-body cardio session. My tip for newbies: take plenty of water, take a small towel (you WILL be sweating), and take advantage of when he changes the song. It was soooo fun. And the proof is in the pudding: I burned 700+ calories in 45 minutes. My second class was immediately after with Richard Gil. This was Tier I. Intro to Bachata. The class size was on the smaller size, so the teacher and his assistant were able to provide professional and detailed corrections to our movements and technique. While I still had lots of fun, it was clear that Richard cares about how his students learn and apply proper bachata principles. I really appreciated this welcoming, uplifting, and constructive atmosphere! My third class (yes, in the same night! I was wore out) was Tier I. Intro to Salsa, which was back with Mario. The class size was bigger, so there was less individualized instruction, but the energy was again incredibly engaging. He used humor, passion, and experience to get everyone moving towards the correct Salsa movements and techniques. Overall, a really wonderful experience. I'm super excited to have something to look forward to each week and will definitely be adding onto this review as I engage with more teachers and take more classes!

I took the poletry intermediate/advanced and felt like the class was true to that level, the instructor paced the class nicely, broke down the choreo well, and was encouraging of any and all attempts! It was a fun time. First class is discounted. Easy to find the studio but not parking! Zero tolerance policy for tardiness.

Terry is a very nice guy and very patient. I brought my 7 year old daughter who was hesitant to start. He was very friendly, not pushy, and my daughter warmed up quickly. I am especially disappointed after meeting Terry to read the harsh reviews. Dancing should be light-hearted, present/in the moment fun, shouldn't it? If they were expecting rigidity and perfection, the "disorganized" website should've been their indication to move on. My suggestion would be to follow your intuition, then you will not have to be disappointed. Even though I think I have pretty decent rhythm - I stumbled. But Terry will break down a step to ridiculous and practice it with you to make sure you've got it. Hopefully, he will have a large enough group to do hand dancing, until then I would be willing to trek the 30+ miles again to come to a class.

Has a nice hardwood floor for dancing, chairs to sit, watch and take a break. Parking is available in the neighborhood and surrounding side streets. You pay and register with the QR code posted on the entrance door out back of the church and they also accept cash. The overall class is broken down into small groups depending upon which level you fall in. After the class, announcements are made and they open the class to a small social to practice what you have learned or go over questions with the instructors. DC Casineros is an amazing performing dance company! They perform around Washington, D.C. at…read morespecial events, festivals and compete and all over the world! I've taken classes with them in the past at the dance studios and recently went to one of their monthly dance socials and had a blast. Classes are held several times during the week at the studio. In the classes they teach you about the rich Cuban culture where the Casino style originated from, plus an assortment of traditional dance styles from Cuba as well. At the monthly social, you can take the intro class and learn some of the basic steps. From there, they open the floor for couples or ruedas, basically a couples dance circle. In the ruedas, there is typically a leader who calls out the names of the steps and everyone follows in the circle. You could end up dancing with over 5 - 20 people all in the matter of minutes! Its really quite fascinating to participate or watch the circle while everyone is following the steps. Since everyone is learning, even your best dancers are learning, everyone is very patient with one another. At the social, there was a DJ, dance performances including DC Casineros and a second local Casino group, water and soda for purchase. They also did a segment to get the whole crowd involved so it was very interactive. I saw small ruedas and about the largest rueda I've ever seen, with a smaller rueda in the middle so everyone could fit. Very cool to watch or participate. Amanda and Adrian are both the directors of the group. Not only are they amazing dancers and patient teachers, but they do an outstanding job educating people about the Casino dance style and rich culture from Cuba. The entire group is a lot of fun to watch. Go an check out their next dance performance, try a class or go to a monthly social!

It felt soooooo weird, but I'm glad I tried!! Then they opened the floor for social dancing and it got surprisingly crowded. This is a very safe environment. Security checks your bag. I came solo and felt perfectly fine. Many people were solo, guys and female. So, it's a cool vibe. Of course there were couples and groups of people that came together. But in the dance community, it's fine to go solo. People are respectful and really respect dancing. I will say, this is the sort of environment where people are taking classes and coming here to practice, along with plenty of instructors dancing. So there's a lot of flair and showmanship. I was thinking, am I at Dancing With The Stars or what, lol!! Lot's and lot's of turns and endless turn patterns. Less musicality. That's what makes it not my style so much, but a lot of fun for others. The classes were about 1 hour each, organized, and gave you a taste of the different styles. The instructors told everyone where they teach so you could take more classes. As with anyplace, some leads are fantastic and easy to follow, and other leads are still learning and practicing how to lead, so it can be bumpy dancing with them. Especially if its a first time dancing together. Other leads were really smooth and easy and fun to follow. There's a full bar selling beer, wine, and mixed drinks. If you bring a water bottle, it must be empty and they will fill it with water for you. Or you can purchase bottled water. I had a pretty good time and danced several songs and learned Salsa on 2.
