The wooden frame building (which is now used for meetings and storage) developed in two phases: the construction of the library in 1935 and the addition of the adjoining meeting "hall" in 1950. But everything began first as a project of the Women's Club back in 1928. They started with fundraising and collecting books. By 1934 they had 1000 books. The next steps were to organize a building committee. They got approval from the city to build in 1935. It remained open until they closed in 1978 when the local library system had developed their county wide services.

The staff was incredible. I felt welcomed and comfortable from the time I stepped in. Everyone had a friendly smile. I was offered help but various employees. They were knowledgeable. They point me right to the area I needed to be. The parking was a little complicated. The library shares parking with the other city buildings. Everyone parks all around. There was not enough parking spots.

I love coming to this library. Instead of paying for Netflix, standing in front of a Redbox…read moremachine, going to the nearest Barnes & Nobles, or trying to figure out who has the best prices for CD's; I just go to the Hollywood library and borrow everything from books, ebooks, audio books, music, and movies...for FREE! The only thing you would have to worry about is the $1.00 fine they charge each day for each item that is overdue. I like the fact with having a library account, I can go on the website and check out any new book, CD, and DVD release. If the Hollywood branch does not have the item I want, I can put the item on hold and if there's a copy of that item available at any other Broward library, it will be sent to the library of my choice for pickup. There is no limit on the amount of books or CD's to borrow (2-3 weeks), but if you want to borrow DVD's, the limit is 10 (1 week). Besides borrowing books, CD's, and DVD's, the library also provides bus passes, faxes, copying and printing (15 cents each). They have four sections of computers for adults, teens, and young children. You have to first reserve a computer, which gives you a 60 minute session. You can only reserve a computer twice, which sucks cause I normally spend more than two hours on the internet. If you're smart, you'll walk in with your laptop and use the library's free Wi-Fi. There are also four 15 minute computers that needs no reservation for people who want to go on the internet for minor, quick things like check their email, a quick tweet, print, or download, or just check their facebook page. The noise level in the facility is usually quiet until after 2pm. That's when the school children arrives and then it becomes noisy. The staff are very friendly and are willing to answer any questions you have. It's like my little sanctuary away from home.

Although it's a private library, it is available to the public. My friend told me about this library as her middle school son volunteered here during the summer. She said it was really nice during the summer when it was quiet and they had the library to themselves. I went during the weekday last week. In the midst of back to school college students everywhere! Lol. They have security by the main entrance and college students are asked to scan their university IDs. All other guests will be let in by the guard. You must have a Broward County Libraries card to check out books at this location. The nice thing is, you can return the books to any Broward County Library and they will ship the book directly to Alvin Sherman Library. So convenient. When you walk into the library, the circulation desk is on the left, there is a computer working lab area on the right, and if you go straight, you'll find the children's book location, there are new books located on the spinning racks next to the stairs, and there is also a hidden bestseller books room located next to the circulation desk and entrance/exit. I believe there are four floors in this library. Tons and tons of tables and rooms for study areas for the college students. My favorite part about this museum is the Chihuly display on the second floor, they fancy! Another fascinating thing about this library, are the moving bookshelves! You heard me right. They have digital buttons where you can move the actual bookshelves. It's such a smart way to save space. Brilliant. Unfortunately, they don't have any Friends of the Library books for sale at this location. But the librarian did mention they have two big annual book sales per year. You can sign up for newsletter on their website. There are also two book returns at the roundabout outside of the library in case you don't want to park and get out of your car. There is a parking garage but you have to pay for parking using the park by mobile app. I believe it was $1.61 per hour. Students park for free with their NSU parking stickers.

Went to vote early. The library was very busy with students. The parking lot was was packed with…read morecars. Not sure if they were there for library, sports or college. I noticed security and police in the parking lot. I arrived before voting time was about to end. There was a few people in line for voting. It was quick and easy. I feel it was well organized with the poll workers directing you if you needed help. I finished with ease. Glad I voted early. I would do it again. So happy I have the right to vote.

Ultra quiet inside and the librarian answered all my questions starting with Plantation residents have free access to books and non-resident adults pay only $30.00 per year and $15.00 for kids. Very well organized library with large book genres titles for simple navigation. Only a few people reading books or studying on their laptops. Getting a small café inside would be a great attribute. The printer use was only .15 cents per b&w page and free use of the internet on the computer. They also had a very small section of books for sale which was odd but maybe the proceeds go toward the upkeep. The gender neutral bathroom was clean and located near the book checkput counter.
