Happy that Jai Alai is back but I'm not sure if it's temporary. They re-opened Dec.1st and are playing until Jan. 29th. The Quarter Finals are going on until Jan. 13th; Semi-Finals are Jan. 19 & 20th; and Finals are Jan. 26 & 27th. It's sad that the seating area is so small compared to what it used to be. You can place your bets at one of the self-betting machines or go to the only live cashier who, by the way, was one of the cashiers we would go to back in the day. They even brought back Dave Lamont as the play by play announcer. We've been a couple of times since they re-opened. Tonight (1/6) seemed busier than usual, maybe because of the Quarter Finals. It's fun watching the game especially if you get to see them jump off the wall or fence trying to grab the pelota. read more

Good news, bad news. Bad news first: I am sorry to see how minimized the spectating area has become since the renovation.....this was my first time in since they modified the fronton spectator section... But down to just 5 rows deep - it's really hard to see the entire court as a whole. It used to be like a whole stadium! With lots of places to bet - (many machines and live betting tellers). Sitting in the last row is best, but still a bit of a strain. Also, there are only 5 betting machines and ONLY ONE live person that will make your bets for you anymore. You only have a short period of time between games to get your bets in... if it's busy, you may not get your bet in on time and I almost ran into this exact situation... I went to a machine, waited in line and a guy made like 1000 bets so by the time I was going to get there, I would have missed the final bet time so I ran over to the other end and went in a short line to the live bet teller and I barely made it in time for just 2 bets. WHEW! That was a close one. The only other issue I have is that on the big digital screen - they toggle between score info and the game - which is annoying because you are watching the game, they should have 2 screens if they need to have one on tv right in front of you while you sit in front of the court. This way I can determine who I need to yell at to "MISS!" or "DROP IT!" the ball based on who I bet on. Now the good news: I LOVE that they still have jai-alai! I wish it were as popular as it was when I was a kid when my father first took me here and taught me how the game is played and how to bet! It was even more popular prior to that and there was a fronton in Tampa and in many other places that no longer exist. Sad. But, they keep it going at least at a minimum... it's all in the entertainment. It was a lot of fun and brought back a lot of memories. Do you know what Jai-alai is? I have seen it a few times and I still am not sure all the ins and outs of it. But I know I like hanging out at the Dania Jai-Alan when I am in the neighborhood. A group of friends popped in just last week. We were there to start happy hour, and one guy in our group liked to bet on Jai-Alai. And he was actually good at it. I guess he knew how good some of the players were so he had that small edge. He won a few times. The rest of us were less informed. People were picking semi random 3 numbers(the popular way is to pick 3 numbers) and hope for the best. I did both. I will guess numbers but also listen to what picks he made. It was a great time. We hung around near the betting window and had some beverages. The presentation of the Jai-Alai was great. It's brightly lit and colorful. The players are wearing outfits and holding the wicker like ball catchers on their arm. The action picks up in some tournaments as the crowd starts cheering and yelling for the teams they picked. Afterwards we wandered to the casino for a bit. We had some good luck there too, but the time in the Jai-Alai was both a good time and unique. read more

Definitely worth a stop to experience the sport of jai alai. Much like racquetball but with rotating opponents, you can bet on players or teams similar to betting at a horse track. Bet on a player or team, exacta and trifecta betting as well. Games are fast usually less than 10 minutes. Definitely worth a stop. Clean, bright and in a weird way, family-friendly. First time to see Jai-alai and very cool to watch. I didn't understand the betting but the game scoring system was easy. Casino and fronton were smoke-free. Drinks $3.00. Very decent and inexpensive fast food at the grill. Amazingly good wings and fries. They had salsa dancing lessons which looked fun but I didn't get to ("Latin Thursday's") Tons of free parking around back. Definitely recommend. read more

I'm going to be honest. I still have no idea what is going on at Jai-alai. Despite my friend's best efforts to explain, I think I would need to watch the game about 10 more times to get it. Keeping that in mind, I still had fun. Not many sports around that you can just walk in and watch for free or opt to pay a few dollars to potentially win a bigger lump sum of cash. There is a good people watching here too. Many seem like they've been coming to watch for years. Looking forward to the next 10 games so I can understand what is happening! read more

Wow, if you have time to kill or its bad weather in Ft. Lauderdale, definitely recommend checking this out. It's in a somewhat unglamorous casino, but given its limited success in the US, its pretty hard to witness jai alai these days. The game is basically racquetball on a giant court and they play singles and doubles in tournaments (instead of a racquet, they use like a horn thing and throw it at the wall). The strangest/most interesting part is that you can get bet on it in a similar manner to horse racing. Each "Tournament" is sort of round robin and has a 1st/2nd/3rd based on pts scored. Before the tournament starts, you can go to an attendant and some machines and bet on it very similar to horse racing (you can bet win/place/show, exact order, etc). Where the challenge comes in, is that like most, you know nothing about Jai alai. It's also the type of wagering where the odds don't set until everyone has bet, so you might bet $20 on someone at 10:1, but by the time the match starts its 2:1. There are "Teams" of players and after each match, you'll note the odds for the recent winning team will go up in the next match. As such, my advice is to never bet on the team that won the previous match, as the vaue will always be bad. Anyhow, It's jai alai, its neat. read more

Went to the Poker Room today February 20 2017 at Dania Jai alai. They have been sending me E Mails almost daily about all the games ,promotions and the poker room in general. I arrived at about 3 pm and when I got to the poker room it was completely empty. The attendant told me to come back in a couple of hours. I could not believe it because the advertising makes one believe it was a first class operation. I left and went to the Hard Rock and had no problem getting in a game. its certainly grown, it used to have cheap nachos and food but now its kind of more classy. they have free parking as well as Valey parking and the people are friendly. Jailai is fun to watch but it feels like its changing a bit. it is very fast paced and betting occurs pretty fast. read more
