I called to request highlights and a cut. The stylist I requested wasn't available so the receptionist referred me to an 'excellent' colorist and stylist called Monika. Apart of being a nice lady,Monika is far from a hair professional. My highlights came up in 2 brassy colors, she left the roots untouched and demaged my hair to a point I will have to shave it and let it grow all over again. I went here hoping to get a bit of expert advice on how to style my hair. Sadly I walked out with by far the worst hair cut I've ever had, and quite possibly the worst I've ever seen. I asked for a high fade with a line up. Now I understand they focus on long hair, but I expected a fade and lineup to be something all stylists/barbers could do. The time had come. Literal years of social isolation, for obvious and not-so-obvious reasons, had left me shaggy and ragged. Shragged. Visited Daniel Alfonso Salon for the first time recently and was generally pleased with the experience. The staff was polite and the environment was clean and comfortable. A standout moment was the scalp massage during the wash - it was quite relaxing and a nice touch. While my haircut turned out pretty much as I expected, I did feel that the stylist rushed a bit towards the end. Nonetheless, I left looking and feeling better. Would consider coming back, and I hope to see a bit more attention to detail next time. read more

Emily is fantastic! I don't know anyone else at the salon (everyone seems nice enough) but I go here for Emily... Have you ever gotten the feeling that you've discovered something "early" - a band or restaurant before it got super popular, but you know it's coming, and you feel lucky you get to experience it before it gets priced out of your range and super hard get into? That's how it is with Emily. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in a few years she has her own brand and you can only get in for a gazillion dollars and a 6-month waitlist. Emily is incredible. I came in with long wild untamed hair and she managed to give it shape without cutting it off. My hair is also thick so most people tend to be intimidated by the amount of hair I have. Emily looked like she was having fun which was a nice surprise :) This was also the first time someone took the time to tell me how to properly take care of my hair and which products work best for my hair type. She also told me about the nuisances of hair and how it affects my hair which is so nice to know! She is very knowledgable which is always comforting. It's very apparent that Emily has a love for the craft and puts her all into expressing that, you can tell she wants you to love it and she won't be satisfied with herself unless you do. The haircut itself is amazing, my girlfriend was gushing when I sent her snaps immediately afterward. I love it because it wasn't a huge change despite cutting so much off. When I first went to DAMS I had been through a year of different stylists around LA and my hair was a massacre when I arrived. Three DAMS stylists have cut my hair and two stylist have been AMAZING! So, what happened: This review is for Emily: So, I have been growing out my hair for almost a year to get enough length for a decent style. Yesterday, I sat in Emily's chair with long, no style, mop of hair and gave her free rein to cut my hair in whatever style she felt would work best. I've seen her work before and sat in her chair once during the hair growth stage so I trusted her. Y'all...she did not disappoint!!! Not only did I walk out with my favorite haircut in years but we also had a great conversation - like the kind of therapeutic conversation that just makes you feel like your day is better because you connected. I was asked if I would like Emily to cut my hair. I agreed and headed down there. I had long hair down to my lower back. So any hair cut was nerve racking. I met Emily and I was immediately at ease. I live in Dallas and have seen Daniel's amazing work on social media. Decided to book my appointment with him a month in advance online because I had other business to take care of in the LA area at that time. Checked his online book three weeks out and noticed the day I picked was blocked off. Called to make sure there wasn't a problem and the receptionist said Daniel might be going out of town that day. Maybe it would've been nice someone would've called me to let me know? She took Down my information and never called me back. I call back two days later and she says that he is in fact will be in LA that day. Whew! Well to my demise, I decided to not get my haircut for over two weeks knowing Daniel would Work his magic on me. The night before my appointment, someone texts me (I believe the girlfriend according to his salon staff) saying he is stuck in Sacramento and wouldn't be able to see me. Heartbroken I waited over a month to see this man and he still couldn't come through. I'm a medical provider and regardless of what happens to me, if I know I have patients in my appointment book, I will find a way to see them regardless of the situation I'm in. Maybe a haircut doesn't have the same sense of importance to him even though it's his salon. Luckily they were able to set me up With Nikki who gave me a fantastic haircut to save the trip. I'm really surprised Daniel didn't comp my haircut or discount it knowing I really did fly in just to see him. The staff that texted me says he'll "hook me up/take care of me" the next time I come out. We'll see what happens when I come back out...but in the mean time, thank you Nikki! Her skills with the scissors and razor are impeccable, and whenever I get a fresh cut I get compliments EVERYWHERE I go. Whenever I'm not sure how to style my hair or need some advice, Erika knows the exact cut and always delivers. She also teaches you how to style your hair better if you ask. Last, and most importantly, Erika is just a great person. She takes the time to get to know you and remembers the things you tell her. Rikki Hixx is my dude! I needed to find a new spot to get my hair did after leaving Long Beach and moving to the West Hollywood neighborhood. My friend Mia referred me to Rikki. I finally made my way over there for my first haircut and I have to say, I'm over-the-top happy. Not only is he super cool, like a total down to earth awesome person, but man does he have skills! The texture and the haircut was exactly what I was feeling. Top notch, now I can let my guard down, no pun intended! By the way, the decor and style of this place is dark so it's warm and inviting! Went on yelp to look for a great stylist for both my husband and 13 yr. old son who each had very long "covid hair" and ready to jump back into life with a fresh cut. yelp did me right by recommending Daniel Alfonso. I read the reviews, I looked at the photos, followed on insta and we took a leap of faith. If he could deliver half of what the reviews and photos said, it would be money well spent. Here to report, money well spent indeed! Daniel is an artist, a true craftsman who knows what the hell he is doing. The man can read a head. The salon is gorgeous, run by his beautiful lady Christina and they are just the sweetest most down to earth people. The Salon had other stylists working as well, and everyone was friendly and all had their own unique vibe. Just good energy all around. My hubby looks hot hot hot and my kiddo is so happy with his cut, and it's hard to please a teen I might add! Highly recommend Daniel Alfonso Men's Salon, they have 2 customers for life. Definitely the haircut I got was not worth $100. People are nice and ambience is good, but in the end a customer is there for a haircut and that's what we're paying for. Even after I specifically told that I wanted too have a haircut with texture and volume built in (something decent to ask from a professional charging you $100 for haircut) I even showed a pic of the haircut I wanted to get. In the end I left the place unsatisfied and disappointed. Also the hairstylist here dont have enough time for you as they have back to back appointments and if they do anything wrong or don't give you your desired haircut, they'll try to convince you that the haircut they gave is better than we asked for. Very unprofessional!!!!! I personally think, haircut I received from rikhi wasn't worth $100. Maybe $30 or $40 at max. Definitely not recommended!!! read more

Never once did anyone offer to fix my cut and I had had enough dealing with her, the "owner" and her disrespectful/unprofessional attitude that I told her I was going to dispute the charges and contact the better business bureau. She finally stated she would refund the payment but never did. It took me contacting my financial institution and several more phone calls to her before she actually refunded the money for the uneducated stylists mistake!! WORST PLACE TO GET YOUR HAIRCUT and at no time did anyone ever apologize for the terrible "stylist" they allow to destroy hair there. read more

You know what I can't stand hearing when I sit down in a stylist's chair? "So, tell me what kind of hair style you want." I'm not a stylist and I don't know trends! For years I had been desperate to find a stylist who'd look at me... take into account my head shape, my natural hair texture, my personality... and confidently say, "Here's the style I think will look best on you and that is how I'm going to cut your hair today." But I could never find that. Until I came to Daniel's salon and got my hair cut by Erika. The first time I sat down in Erika's chair I told her she could cut zero hairs on my head and just tell me to come back in 3 months when everything had grown out more and I'd still pay full price - I wanted a new style, not just to "get my hair cut", and would do whatever she recommended. That was 4 years ago. To say she delivered (and continues to deliver) would be an understatement. I went from being a dude with perpetually super short hair to Erika showing me I actually had curls hiding away - and guiding me to a longer hairstyle than I'd ever had before, but that matches my personality and gets compliments all the time. (And showing me how to use products to style it correctly along the way.) It is so liberating to know I can just sit down in Erika's chair now and say, "Do whatever you think will look best on me"... and I don't have to think about my hair anymore. TL;DR: if you hate when stylists ask you "what do you want?" and you just want someone skilled to make the decisions for you and give you a look that actually matches you... go see Erika, tell her you give her complete control over your hair, and trust every decision she makes. The first red flag should have been the third time Daniel asked me the same question. Right then I should have noticed that he doesn't listen. Second mistake of mine was not checking out all the pics on Yelp, where clearly 90% of the cuts have pretty much the same theme, which is what I ended up walking out of the salon with. Even after extensive explanation of my head shape, what I'm looking for, and why I am changing hairdressers, there were simply no comprehension or ability to hear me. Patrick's cut of my hair was terrible. I needed a haircut and called based on the Yelp reviews. The receptionist (later I found out she's a co-owner) said Patrick was the only one with availability for the next three weeks and personally vouched for him. When I brought up his only Yelp review-- one-star-- she explained that it involved an unruly child. When I brought it up with Patrick during the cut, he said the same thing. Should've listened to my fellow Yelper. The cut was feathery, uneven, and just plain bad. Patrick seemed more involved trying to get in on Daniel's conversation than actually focusing on the task at hand, and it showed. When I tried to talk to the receptionist/co-owner, she never called back and Daniel, who answered the phone, also didn't care. Way to stand behind your brand. After my original goto spot closed after years of service, I felt like I Googled various salons around LA for months before I settled on a place to try. I finally chose Daniel Alfonso's because it felt like it checked off a lot of boxes (good photos/reviews/etc), and I was in dire need of a cut. I decided to pick an artist at random and ended up booking an appointment with Erika. This turned out to be a magnificent choice - not to say the others aren't as talented; I can't personally speak on the experience, though I can say I've never seen a patron leave without a skip in their step - I'm just stoked that on a random spin of the wheel, I found that one hairstylist who precisely gives you the best cut time and time again. There's a really satisfying feeling in knowing you have a regular hair spot that will always treat you right. What I most admire about Erika is her ability to work with my hair specifically. If I show her reference pictures, she achieves a look that exists in the same echelon without being a direct copy. On top of that, she's just wonderful person; she's someone who does remember what you tell her. I would be shocked to find myself at any other salon in LA. If you're on the fence: give it a shot.
