I don't have a good track record, having already had reconstructive surgery after a bilateral mastectomy, followed by total implant replacement in 2010 - neither of which were performed by Dr Palaia. I believe I presented as quite a challenge given the state of my current implants, the thin skin and the fact that I've had multiple surgeries. I LOVE the way I look since my surgery and much more importantly, for the first time in 12 years -- I no longer feel the tightness and discomfort that I had learned to live with since my original surgery. In my first consultation with Dr Palaia what I really appreciated was his honesty. He told me that he couldn't make any promises as to whether the surgery would or wouldn't relieve my discomfort. He told me exactly what he was going to do (which is leading edge reconstructive surgery). Things have really changed/improved in the 12 years since my original surgery and Dr Palaia is an outstanding plastic surgeon who is highly skilled in these new procedures. Once I was back at home after surgery I needed to speak to Dr Palaia. He returned my husband's phone call very quickly. We were both impressed. During the actual appointment, the surgeon looked at my list, identified that I take a prescription blood thinner, and stated I would need to stop it for two weeks to proceed safely. Because it is medically impossible for me to pause this medication, the surgery was a total non-starter and the appointment was effectively over. While I respect the doctor's medical expertise, my medication was clearly disclosed on the intake paperwork days before the visit. A properly managed front office should screen forms for absolute contraindications before booking an appointment and collecting non-refundable fees. To make matters worse, when I pointed out this administrative oversight and offered a reasonable 50% compromise ($150 refund) to account for the doctor's time, the office manager refused. They attempted to justify keeping the full fee by sending me a copy of a policy stating fees are non-refundable for "cancellations." I did not cancel; I fully attended the appointment. When I asked to escalate the issue to the surgeon to review , the practice completely ignored my emails. The medical care here may be fine, but they do not actively screen advance paperwork to protect patients from paying for impossible consultations, and they will misapply their own contracts to avoid issuing a refund. Double-check your own medical eligibility before giving this office any financial details.
