It's tough to come up with a 40th birthday gift for an estranged spouse. These days, the only thing we have in common is our children, so it seemed fitting to include them somehow. In a rare moment of clarity, I found a way to get this done, give business to a worthy photographer ( ahem, and friend) at the same time. I posed the idea to Tom, to do a photo shoot of my kids as a present for my wife and his energy and enthusiasm made me immediately think I made the right choice. We discussed locations and concepts based on what I had seen of his work. Tom had some fantastic ideas and was very receptive to my own ideas. Tom feels that the comfort of the subjects is important, so we decided to do an outdoor shoot at the park in the neighborhood where they grew up. The day came and although Tom had nothing to do with the weather, I couldn't help but feel that with the most beautiful fall day I'd ever seen, Tom has an in with Mother Nature. The shoot went flawlessly. He worked great with usually difficult kids and I could tell they felt at ease. My kids are into cosplay, where they like to dress up as their favorite characters. They loved that Tom incorporated their costumes into the shoot and couldn't wait for the pictures. And what pictures they were. I've never seen my kids look so good. The shots were classy, true and fun. I am more than pleased with the results and they were a big hit with everyone who got one. Tom uses an easy method for getting you your pics. He sets up a web page where you can view all shots and order them however you wish ( mugs, cards, photos, digital, etc) . With one click, a picture will be in your hands within hours. The overall experience with Tom, was one that I can't say enough good things about. If you have the need for such services and you are in the greater Philadelphia and South Jersey area ( or even beyond- it's worth it) make sure you check Tom out. He even made me look good...and that's saying something.

I purchased a service for her through Groupon, checked up on her webpage and facebook page, didn't seem to see any negative reviews, and we needed a photographer in that area, so I thought her deal sounded great. (A roughly one hour session at a local park for $79, outfit changes if we wanted, and I would receive a copy of all raw images, from which she would edit five...) The initial apt set up was ok, but from then on, communication was a HASSLE. I had to call HER the day of our apt to confirm the appointment... It was raining on and off that day, so we decided to speak at 2 in the afternoon to decide if we were able to do the photos or not... I didn't hear from her, tried to call her a couple of times and heard nothing back... Until 4:15, when she called and said I'll be at the park in 15 mintues... We had expressed that we were staying 30 minutes from the park, and she gave us NO time to be ready... When we reached the park, she wasn't there... She went to THE WRONG PARK, even though I had confirmed the park with her... The entire photo session she was MUCH more concerned with her camera getting wet (mind you it didn't rain the entire time), then she was about capturing our family moments... Which shows in the pictures, because lets be honest, she missed 98% of the things a photographer would capture... She claims on her groupons to win awards for child photography... Not ONE good picture of my toddler, whose "essence" I can capture on my smartphone. I cried when I saw the pictures, they were just sad... The experience was horrible, my husband and I were so stressed out by her by the time we got to the right place that we nearly canceled... My assumption is she isn't really interested in doing a good job for groupons because people aren't paying full price... She is constantly posting "sneak peaks" and session photos on her facebook, and I sat and waited for ours to pop up and they never did- probably because they were so sub-par... Must I also mention that we are military from out of town and my husband doesn't have many chances to see his son, so these pictures were meant to be a special way for them to both remember each other... Which she failed to do for us as a family and for my husband and son... I find her actions to be completely disrespectful on a personal level, as well as blatant disrespect and disregard for military personnel... On another note, we had brought cupcakes with us as a cute little prop and reward for the toddler who had done a great job dealing with all of her nonsense... She looked at me and said "I don't get your vision for this." Are we serious? I have to explain to an artist that i want cute pictures of my husband and his son eating cupcakes together (which is one of their favorite things) and you don't get an artistic vision for this? This also shows in the photos, they aren't good, didn't capture the moment, and were a pure disappointment... Isn't photography about being artistic??? She also brought her husband and daughter with her, which I have no problem with, but halfway through the photo session, they walked right through our group and distracted our toddler- to me, this is rude. I did receive the RAW images from her, but when I told her which images I would like her to edit, she wouldn't respond... A month later I contacted groupon, who was VERY quick to give my money back... I still haven't heard from her... Initial meeting - After calling a company who must have had Calvin Harris djing for him with his rates We found Ernest and realized his rates were right in our budget! both my fiance and I live in Virginia but we got married in New Jersey. So we didn't have a lot of free time to set up meetings. Ernest scheduled on the exact day we were going to be in town and was a pleasure to have lunch with. Immediately we knew we wanted to use him. Songs and song choices- my fiance and I delayed getting this to them until about a week before the wedding. To make it even worse we sent them about 10 songs and the wedding party / first dance songs.. Never once did he get upset, check in on us, or say he couldn't do anything. It was all met with a "great or no problem" in fact he even took my call on a random Tuesday night because we had no idea how to do the scheduling. He helped with all of that!!!! Wedding- well let's just say that everyone danced their booties off!!! With a very diverse family including kids he managed to work in poppy songs for the kids, 60's & 70's songs for the adults, dance/ rap for us and our friends.. We got compliments on how great of a job they did. Keep in mind that 10 song list I sent was done so he knew what type of music we wanted to listen to. At 10 songs it's hard to fill 3 hours of dancing and Ernest picked songs that blended perfect and everyone enjoyed. If you've made it this far reading, thank you!
