It was an intimate evening as there were only two other people booked, so it was like a private painting lesson. Our canvasses were set up with paint brushes and paint set out for us prior to arrival. They offer beer, wine, canned cocktails, water and soda, and don't allow outside beverages. There was only wine by the bottle so we ended up splitting a bottle with the other two attendees. I've attended a few other paint nights elsewhere in the past, and this night lived up to my expectations. I would definitely revisit Painting with a Twist in Chatsworth!

However, we felt uncomfortable when a strange man came to the window to peer inside. Instead of talking through the closed door, Isa opened it to speak to him, and he made a creepy comment ("I'm no Picasso, I just like to watch pretty women"). Opening the door in that situation felt unsafe for our group. The biggest issue was the complete lack of communication about the studio's broken air conditioning. It was ridiculously hot inside, and had they called or emailed beforehand to let us know, we would have gladly rescheduled. One member of our party suffers from heat-induced seizures, and she ended up struggling through the heat before we were forced to pack up and leave early for her safety. To make matters worse, two hours into the session, Isa casually mentioned that management had offered free bottled water due to the heat--a gesture that should have been provided immediately, not hours later. When we reached out to management, the owner was completely unsympathetic to the situation. They initially offered us a single free drink or a partial discount on a future session. After multiple emails from our party explaining how severe the heat issue was for one of the girls due to heat related seizures, the owner's blunt response was: "I understand your concerns. I am sorry the air conditioning was out, and we absolutely should have contacted you beforehand. I will refund the birthday girls seat and no more." Admitting they failed to notify us beforehand while offering the absolute bare minimum resolution shows zero regard for customer safety or satisfaction. This was actually my second frustrating experience at this studio. Previously, I won $150 in gift cards at a silent auction for an animal rescue, only to find out I couldn't combine them when booking for a group of five. The restriction wasn't stated anywhere on the cards, and management's stance was just "that's how it is," forcing me to lose money and pay out of pocket. Between the lack of transparency, safety concerns, and an owner who genuinely does not care about customer well-being, I cannot recommend this place.

Cristi and Art Spot are so great! I am an SYV local but had never been to Grimm's Bluff so jumped…read moreat the chance to do a painting in the vineyard event for a little introduction. Grimm's Bluff is stunning with so many fantastic sites to paint. Art Spot chose their private lake with the mountains and a bit of Cachuma Lake (Cristi joked about it being a unique painting in the vineyard experience to not actually paint vines!). Stunning scene. But before we proceeded to our painting location, we enjoyed sampling a bit of rose and estate sage honey and olive oil, with a little primer about Grimm's Bluff. I had persuaded a friend to join and had told her that I had done a watercolor class at Kaena, where the scene was penciled in and we were instructed on how to mix paints and water and layer in the paint, but it was easy and fun - almost like a paint by numbers with a good glass of wine. So when we got to our painting spot, I was surprised and somewhat intimidated to see completely blank canvases on easels with a few globs of acrylic paint! But Cristi is a great instructor and leader, and made the experience so fun and comfortable (the liquid courage from Grimm's Bluff didn't hurt, either). She gave us detailed tips on color mixing, which brushes to use, and how to just jump in and start. She had an easel up front and led the way, showing us on her canvas what to do. It was a blast and each one of us produced surprisingly passable if not beautiful little canvases - each unique in its own way. I highly recommend Art Spot. I have zero training or natural ability but with Cristi's guidance, now have two cute little paintings (including my Kaena watercolor). There is no reason to be fearful or intimidated- Cristi makes it so anyone can pick up a brush and release their secret inner artist. It is a lovely activity to do with friends on a gorgeous SYV day.

We'd recently lost two beloved dogs to old age, and I wanted a watercolor portrait of them as a gift for my wife who was still badly missing them. I sent Gray a photo, and he turned it into a wonderful painting. I couldn't have been more pleased with how it turned out, and my wife loved it so much she started crying when she saw it!
