I have been going to DS for 5 years. Ive had mostly Great haircuts. I have sent my mom here a few times and referred others. BUT due to my recent experiences i am unfortunately not going to be returning. Several months ago i booked with Shay to switch things up and get a shorter haircut. Unfortunately, the same day as my appointment an hour before I got a call saying that Shay has left for the day was not able to make my appointment, but she passed my appointment to another hairstylist for Context I booked with Shay because I had heard great things about Her experience in cutting shorter hair, so I was pretty disappointed to be passed over. Fortunately, it turned out that the stylist was fabulous and I've booked her for the past five or six haircuts. Although I am now going to go a little shorter and headed out for vacation and just thought I would book with Shay for a fresh look. I booked a while in advance knowing that her schedule is full usually,. 2 Days before my BOOKED haircut and hours spent on refining the hairstyle that I would like to get I get a call saying that Shay is canceling my appointment yet again. Keep in mind that she has open appointments on her website for herself for anyone to book, yet i was told she is not accepting new clients. Pro tip Shay, take your name off or simply put on your site you are not taking new clients! Two days before getting a haircut, I have no time to prepare for another appointment and usually a great stylist are few and far between and booked out. I know that this is just hair and I'll live, but she has made it difficult to trust in her salon.. I unfortunately just don't have time for inconsistencies or poor communication. One last pro tip Shay don't have your receptionist call when you could easily pick up the phone and call one of your long-term customers of your salon for a mistake that you made. I would imagine the least thing that you could've done was to Call and apologize on your behalf. So if you have time on your hands to be jerked around or just like to be canceled on, go for it! I had seen a girl here several times for haircuts, always pre-booking my appointment before I leave. This girl quit and I was never notified.. I showed up for my appointment and they said "oh we just assumed she told her clients." No one was able to cut my hair and no apologies were given. I booked an appointment with another girl for the next week. This girl calls the morning of the appointment and cancels my appointment. Don't bother rearranging your life multiple times for this place. You can get the same haircut at other places that are just as great without being inconvenienced. read more

They lost too many appointments for my mom. How does a salon lose appointments? They're not even apologetic and quick to try to position it it as a client mistake. One lost appointment and you don't have your appointment card as proof, you may question your calendar. I love love love the color line the salon uses as I clearly see the difference in how my hair holds the color far better than in previous years! Jill is my stylist and is very versatile as I have very short, fine hair and the cut is not for an inexperienced stylist. I also use the recommended shampoo, conditioner and hair growth as I receive cancer treatments so this has been an added bonus in supporting my needs. I have been going here for months now, and while I love my stylist, the staff is horrible. I always have trouble scheduling an appointment and today I had an appt for a partial highlight and haircut. The appointment was reconfirmed yesterday as well. I checked in on time, sat around for over 1 hour after a full day of work. No one came to check on me or even look in to why I was sitting there for so long. When it was officially 1 hour past my time, I went to the front to ask how much longer it would be. A few minutes later, I was getting looks from the staff and there were subtle whispers. 20 min after I approached the front desk, I was finally told that my stylist wasn't even there today !!!! I usually don't write bad reviews and accumulate negativity in life. Im a very positive and easy going person, and love my hair so much. but this time i can no longer contain my feelings/opinion anymore. My visit at this salon was a total disaster and a nightmare. I went to have my bangs cut and i showed her the picture of how i want it to be cut. After she cut my bangs in just 1 minute i was very surprise of the outcome. She cut them really short just above my eyebrows. Its not even close to the picture i showed her. I was really upset and disappointed. Its my first visit and was planning to have this salon as my regular since its the closest to my home, but i guess not anymore. I learned from the worst experience i ever had. This girl needs to learn how to listen and understand the costumers wants and expectations, or she needs to go back to school and learn to cut hair properly and gain more knowledge and skills. The WORST color I have ever received. I came in for a balayage touch up and admittedly my hair was pretty grown out. But I asked to have my blonde baylage brought up and my hair toned as it was brassy. My tone and cut were fine, but the balayage was god awful. It should have been a fairly time intensive process but somehow she was done with everything in an hour. The bleach did not sit long enough, so parts of my hair turned orange and coppery, and it did not blend with my previous balayage at all. Avoid seeing Chelsea at all costs, a waste of time and money! read more

So I'm just gunna be completely honest abouy how I've felt about my hair after having it chemically treated at Daniel Shay's. Can I start by saying, don't come in unless you have MONEY. like moneyyy. I'm lucky I had the almost $300 that it took to do my hair on me. For starters, I came in with an ugly "blonde" I had let my friend do using "professional products" purchased at Sally's. I say "professional" because my stylist was less than impressed with my choice of products. She called them box dye, which confused me because the packaging literally said "for professional use only" but whatever. I told her to do what she needed to fix it, but not to worry about fixing it if the process would kill my hair- WHICH IT DID. we love that. She also NEVER told me how much any of her services would cost, so I was left completely blind as to how much I was spending until the end. my friend was watching her, although they almost weren't going to let her. She said as the stylist washed my hair out, A LOT of my hair was coming out in the bowl, and when she tried to say something the stylist shhhhhed her. My hair is already thin, but it's barely even there now. After coming home with it, its been falling out left and right. I really might as well shave my head again. I don't even want to post a picture because of how sad I am that I paid almost $300 to get my hair murdered. To sum it up, that's the first time I've never tipped my stylist. read more

I needed a new stylist and had heard how great Shay was so I booked an appointment with her over 2 weeks in advance and told the receptionist that I was a new client. When I showed up for my appointment, I was told Shay was not accepting any new clients but someone else could take me. I was leaving on a trip and really needed a cut so I kinda had no choice- I am now sporting one of the worst haircuts I've ever had! Wish I had just walked out with the hair I came in with. My haircut was fine I guess really not a high quality cut. The shampoo they use smells like dog shampoo to me though so I had to wash it out ASAP! The lady just read off the sheet and didn't really ask me questions about my hair and didn't really collaborate well with me on what I wanted and what would be good for my hair type. Really not the experience I look for in a salon. She did nothing in the sense of trying to get me to come back next time. So my search continues for a salon I enjoy going to. The lady was kinda rude I just left feeling less happy than when I went in and I usually leave the salon fresh and excited about my new hair. My review is specifically on Lauren's work. She is a super sweet stylist. I have now been to her twice and she always does a great job and makes me feel at ease. I have very straight, fine hair. I always want a simple trim and very thin, natural highlights. She does this perfectly for me and then styles my hair in soft waves so I feel like a million bucks when I leave! For the salon itself- there a few pros and cons. I like the design of the salon. It's beautiful and a comfortable place to be. I also like the times they are open because I can always get an appointment after work. I do not really like the little boutique they have. The clothes are all really overpriced for what they are and it just seems a waste of space. Also, you cannot tip your stylist if you pay on a credit card. You have to use their ATM. This combined with the boutique makes the customer feel like they are trying to make a few extra bucks at the expense of the stylists. All companies have figured out a way to get tips on a card- it can't be that hard. Overall- I would definitely recommend you visit to see Lauren for color or cut. She also does extensions! I came here yesterday for dermaplaning after researching places around town. Their prices seemed the best and I used to go there for my hair so I knew they were good. My service was done by Emily and oh my word she was the sweetest thing ever. She explained everything as she went, was so gentle and even let me know the girl I had gone to before knicked a couple of places (I already knew about one of them). She adjusted my extensions (and added more because, why not!) and also did much needed highlights. My hair looks amazing and she was so friendly and nice. Rachel at Daniel Shays is the best!!! After going through a life changing experience, I lost all of my hair. When it started to grow back, it became wild and hard to manage. I kept putting off seeing a stylist, mainly because I was embarrassed and nervous that not much could be done. Rachel was so wonderful. She treated me with kindness and respect and gave me a beautiful haircut and style. In addition, she gave me some sample products to try to tame the new curls in my new hair. Pretty good! I am a salon snob and this salon has a lot of what I dislike, but a few great features I love. In the welcome area, a DVD of Oribe designs and runway models being desecrated by some white-toothed stylist plays on a loop. This is to plug the Oribe styling products, shampoos, and conditioners. This is yet another place where a tip cannot be added by credit card, but an ATM is in the lobby if you are short on cash (remember, for beauty services, 10% is customary). On the upside, the welcome desk is staffed by young ladies, but they are both lovely and polite, and would never ignore the customer. I only go here for eyelash extensions, but hear nothing but good things about every stylist. My favorite part: online appointment booking!!!!! read more
