Yum if you are ever given the chance in your life to stop at Dan's candies its definitely a staple in the area. There has not a Halloween that has gone by in my 40 years that we have not went and bought a giant supply of carmel apples for the whole family, and also an extra supply of carmel you know just in case. We actually used to send them to family out of town but luckily now they ship thier candies so guess what...they can get thier own! Just kidding. I absolutely love thier English toffee, this was my Dads favorite always, so it makes me think of him. FYI you can get them all year round we just really like the carmel apples they offer around Halloween. Plus it helps keep my girlish figure to not pig out on chocolates and candies all year long. I've passed Dan's hundreds of times driving down Route 30. The storefront is older and dated, there isn't much about it that says "come hither." Well, aside from the fact that they sell CANDY... Honestly, I didn't even know if the place was still open. But since I was in the area again, and having some girlfriends over for a "wine night," I thought picking up some chocolate was a wise idea. I purchased a box of mixed truffles. $25/pound is a bit steep, but the box was packed with perfectly sized truffles. The box included chocolate, raspberry, red velvet, Irish Cream, tiramisu, and cappuccino flavored truffles. The raspberry and cappuccino were my favorites. The Irish Cream was good, but a little too boozy tasting, and the red velvet was god-awful and tasted like chemicals. The sign above the register indicated they also have champagne truffles, but I was disappointed to learn that they didn't have any more. There's a good variety of other chocolates including mint meltaways, caramels, peanut/pecan/almond clusters, truffles, and sugar free chocolates. There's a small selection of gummies and other candy too. One of the ladies working here was really nice. The boxes of mixed truffles also include a row of coconut. I like coconut, but I know it isn't everyone's thing, so she kindly allowed me to switch out the coconut for more of the other flavors. She also offered to gift wrap my candy, but I declined. Come on, we all know I had to sample each flavor before serving them later. It's only right!!! The candy was good, but it didn't blow me away. Since they also close at 5-6:00 p.m., I don't know that I'll be inclined to go back except to purchase an occasional gift when I get tired of gifting the usual Godiva and Fannie May. read more

I grew up in Joliet but live in Chicago. It's a wonderful childhood memory I have going to Dans with my Dad. It's been a few years since I've been to Dan's. Last week I found myself in Joliet and I stopped at Dans, it hasn't changed since I was a kid. It did not disappoint me in the least. Boyfriend brought the family Hollingworth Toffee for Christmas. Without fail, my stepdad complained that we didn't have any Dan's caramels (no wonder he is a diabetic!). Since his birthday is NYE, I made the trip to grab him a pound. I used to always just buy a pound of plain caramels. Now, I bought a pound mix, There were chocolate covered caramels, plain caramels, sea salt caramels, dark chocolate caramels. It was a pound mix of any caramel he could imagine. They wrapped the box in a nice birthday wrapping paper. Stepdad was elated! I also picked up two snowmen. They were nutter butters dipped in white chocolate and decorated to look like snowmen. I learned about the family run, 2nd oldest business in Joliet with a recent visit to Cheesecake by James. The owner was in when I was grabbing some cheesecake and bookmarked it. Reminds me of an old candy shop in Cincinnati. I wanted to load up my first visit, but wasn't going straight home. Since summer showed up in full force today and would have turned everything into pudding. I was only able to nibble on one of my favorites, dark chocolate almond bark. They're known for their caramels and will certainly stop back for some Father's Day treats. Helpful staff and love the old style dosplay cases. Come get yourself a chocolate covered strawberry! I am so glad I discovered this little gem today. There are not very many places left where you can buy a real homemade treat that hasn't been processed 6 or 7 times before reaching your door. The focus here is obviously on the candy and not the interior design inside, but absolutely nothing is lost. The main feature is the large array of chocolates and other candies for sale. Prices are much less than you would expect for the quality. Prices are around 20$ a pound and there are also many sugar free options as well. For the holidays they also have an assortment of chocolate pops and other festive treats. The ladies working here are super nice and offering up a great product. My family has been buying candy and caramel apples (in season) from Dan's for as long as I can remember - and without revealing my exact age, I'm a grandmother of a 17 year old! LOL I've enjoyed candy from Dan's since the 1950's. Each Christmas my mom would buy us the delicious caramels from Dan's and the Easter Bunny was always smart enough to deliver the best chocolate bunnies and treats ever that I'm sure he found at Dan's! And, their candy is perfect for gifts or just for a treat for yourself. We live closest to the store on Plainfield Road, but have also been to their Mokena location and it's very nice. Numerous relatives and friends who no longer live in the Joliet, IL area mail order Dan's Candy and have been very pleased with the prompt delivery and service. Visited Dan's candy today to get some caramel apples. We have been going there for years. The apples used to be big and covered with caramel, but worth the overpricing. Today was a big disappointment. The apples were way smaller as was the caramel covering. Almost transparent. They used to have a thick covering with a large gob of caramel around the bottom. Not anymore. They've really cheaper out. Looks like, like almost everything else, if you want it right you have to make it yourself. Today was our last visit to Dan's. read more

I remember my Dad buying my Mother her Valentines chocolates from Dan's.I was thinking about candy there other day, and G Shaft came to my mind. I asked my brother to go to the new Dan's in Mokena to pick me up some G Shaft. You can't find a true candy store like Dan's anymore.
