Like others, we ducked into the cafe during a rain shower. We were able to find a table and found the waitstaff to be very friendly. The real star of the show was the food. After having been in Paris and getting some surprisingly poorly cooked duck, we were astonished to receive the most expertly prepared duck and as well as delicious fish of the day. We are pretty picky, and the chef was pleased to get my personal congratulations in the kitchen upstairs. Would recommend the cafe for entrees. read more

We decided to go there based on yelp. But is was definitely very disappointing! The glasses were dirty and the meals weren't worth their prices! Very small portions and drinks. 0.2 Coke for 3 Euro! Furthermore, they are not showing the menu outside, thus you need to take a seat for seeing their prices. The terrace is very crammed. read more

I come to Amsterdam at least 5-6 times a year, and I never know this place existed! A co-worker dragged me out and I'm so glad he did! Drinks are great, food is great, service is great! The bar is very fancy schmancy with a full wall display of various liquor and wine bottles. My group ordered burgers, margarita pizzas, and a Dutch appetizer of fried cheese balls...which my coworkers described as "thanksgiving in your mouth," which was very accurate! I live in Amsterdam and have been here a few times before. The food has always been okay (not great, but okay) but it's a nice and cozy location. Today we went in for lunch and were in the process of ordering our food and asked for tap water for the table. The waitress refused and said that 'we don't serve tap water here'. Please be aware that it is commonplace in the Netherlands to be served tap water with a meal... any place that refuses is clearly a ripoff joint catering only to tourists. Accordingly, will never be back to Dante and encourage you to skip it as well until they change this scam-like attitude that takes advantage of non-locals. read more

I have been living in Amsterdam for 3 years so I am familiar and experienced with 'DUTCH SERVICE' phrase. The service at this restaurant takes that phrase to totally new level! I went there with a friend, seat in the outdoor area. After a while we ordered 2 glasses of white and 2 pasta dishes. The waiter never came check out on us even thou our glasses were empty after 30 min. One hour passed by, we started to worry that they forgot about our order. I went inside to ask our waiter if he knows what is the status of our order because its been over an hour now. Not looking at me he responded in a very rude voice "I don't know"! I politely asked then, can you please check. Again, not looking at me with the same attitude he response "Fine"! I went back to the table quite frustrated, told my friend let's wait 5 more minutes and if it doesn't come we just pay for the drinks and leave. In few minutes, another waiter stopped by and this time my friend asked if he knows the status of our order. He starts to search his portable ordering device and says, I don't see any order for this table! Only wine! He was kind enough to say we don't have to pay for the wine we can just go. Or we can order again! At that point after waiting for such a long time and being rudely responded to, we decided just to leave and go eat elsewhere. Ate here the other night while visiting Amsterdam. It seemed like a nice place but my entree was disgusting. I got the cream and spinach tortellini. There was no flavor what so ever. I ended up at Dante on a very boozy night in Amsterdam with friends - we should have directly to our nearby hotel, but Dante looked inviting - and sort of blingy -which helped guide us in for more drinks. The location on the Spuistraat is central to restaurants and other bars which is good. The staff at Dante is friendly and kindly listened to the few words of Dutch I speak. They had some good single malts on display - I had one straight up and then opted for a dirty Belvedere martini. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst martinis I've had. Ever. But free wifi. Wow I love this place, I always go for the area at the back that overlooks the canal, it's a perfect place on the weekend to relax with a paper and unwind. I usually get the pizza or the burger as the steak can be hit and miss. read more

This restaurant-cafe has a lovely atmosphere and great location. The food and service are mediocre. You can do a lot better. The caprese salad was served with plastic pink tomatoes and barely a sprig of basil. The buffala mozzarella was very good, but there was too much of it; the proportions were all wrong. Granted, this is not a January dish, but if you promote your produce and have caprese salad on the menu, then you should make an effort to have the ingredients. The eggplant parm had potential, but the dish was ruined by the pool of oil in which it was sitting. Every bite uncovered a hidden wellspring of grease. By the time i was finished, the pool had grown ever larger. I would have ordered a second glass of wine had I seen the waiter. I had to get up and put my coat on to get his attention so that I could get the check. Like i said, you could do a lot better for 30 euros. read more

What a pleasant surprise ... Amazing quality and terrific service. We had antipasto, steak, cod, and hamburger. Food was absolutely yummy at a great price. Will be back before we leave Amsterdam. read more

Service was impeccable. Bartender, and even the waitress on break was a delight. Take the bartenders recommendation - they are genuine as there is no American-like-push to upsell. The salad wasn't at all what I expected, and needed more green..my only recommendation would be to make sure the non-Dutch know that their version of a salad is a heavy sweet potato, cheese and potato chips. The ambiance of this place is perfect for a chill, relaxing dinner. They offer WiFi and the staff is attentive and efficient. My only issue is that the pizza isn't really pizza, it is more a cheesy flatbread than anything. They could definitely use a different pizza recipe or at least a way to make the pizza taste more like pizza. read more

It's a good spot to grab a meal and a drink before heading out to do more in Amsterdam. I came here with a group of six and they accommodated us with no problem. The staff was extremely friendly and always were around to ask if we needed anything. My Dutch isn't really that great and the staff did not seem bothered by having to speak English to me and my friends. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be stopping by! read more

Totally mediocre. We were desperate to eat something (anything!) after a long day with some travel errors. It was our last night in Amsterdam so we wanted something halfway decent. This was near our hotel and not priced as high as the other spots around it. The restaurant looks nice with a food patio and cozy seeming decor. I don't eat meat and the fish/chicken options here were limited. I wasn't in the mood for pizza but my guess is that's the safest bet here. I asked if one of the veggie pastas could have a protein added to it and was told no. Ok, I get it. They don't want to vary there menu. I had the shrimp risotto which was all crisp, dry and basically flavorless rice. My mom had the daily special which was a tortellini in red sauce that was alright. Would never chose to go here but if you're desperate for some gluten, go for it. As is typical for many places in Amsterdam, have to hunt for a waiter. read more
