I feel like I've been living in a bubble. How did i not realize that there's a vibrant Arab community in this neighborhood? Which also means there's lots of competition and the food is good! It's a smallish space, with about 8 tables. They have a cooler by the door for soft drinks, and by the cash register they have the traditional spiced sweet hot tea.. that's complimentary as well. They had one attentive and busy server, who took the time to speak to the patrons and make everyone feel welcome. They cover the tables with b plastic, and switch it after every seating. The salad is basic with some cumin and saffron. The lamb bone broth is very flavorful. It's rich, very cummin-y. Absolutely delicious. The bread is fresh and home made. The saltah is a thick veggie stew that comes bubbling in a crock. So flavorful. Get the fennel slurry on top! The lamb dish was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. It was not gamey and was nicely spiced. Their homemade hot sauce was not spicy, but was flavorful. We also got this date and clotted cream. It was very dense, and not terribly sweet. Hidden gem. The plate of food is giant, the lamb I ordered was flavorful and tender. Soda's in the fridge are a buck fifty you can't beat that in New York these days. Beautiful decor. Small menu, which I prefer, and the price for everything is great. Everything was so flavorful. I've tried other Yemeni spots before, but this one tasted so homemade. The rice was so good compared to the others, you could taste the spices in it. And what I really liked was that the lamb didn't have a strong gamey flavor that it sometimes has, you could tell it was a young lamb. The Saltah was delicious too, tho I wish the veggie chunks could've been bigger. Also, I'm desi and even I thought their side sauce was spicy lol, it was really good tho. I got the banana dessert thing, wasn't a fan, I guess its an acquired taste. Also, when we got there, they were out of the soup! And that's my favorite part. Super low-key but also high-key place Dar Al Yemen has captivated our attention. They took the exterior very seriously and the inside was just as beautiful as the out. Dar Al Yemen serves classic Yemeni food that was sooooooo delicious! Food: 9/10 We were thoroughly impressed by the food. They give you complimentary bone broth, bread (almost the consistency of naan), and salad to start off. We ordered the lamb haneeth, half roasted chicken, and saltah. The haneeth and chicken came combined onto the same platter with fragranced, seasoned rice. And let us just say - it was absolutely dreamy. The lamb was so succulent and fell of the bone. It was juicy, tender, and well flavored. The half roasted chicken was great overall, seasoned well, but a little understandably dry at the breast part. We used the bread to dip into the broth which made it even more tasty. Saltah was A1 and also perfect for scooping up with bread. Price: 8/10 Prices are standard. Main dishes go around for $13-$22. Atmosphere: 8/10 In terms of decor, it is gorgeous. Space is a bit small, but because of COVID, they could only seat one half of their restaurant. The other half was closed off, so about ~8 people could sit in total. It was pretty cold inside too. Service: 6/10 While the service wasn't necessarily bad, it would have been better if there was someone at the counter where we could have placed our order easily. It's an order up front type of thing but no one was really there though there were lots of workers. I just love this place and the chef/owner is passionate about the cooking. The new place on Rockaway Blvd is absolutely amazing compared to the old place in terms of decor and seating arrangement - definitely an improvement. This is a must try place and the soup/salad/sauce is complementary. The hit dishes I tried were foul served sizzling hot on cash iron bowl, sauted liver, foul with eggs for breakfast, lamb/chicken mandi for lunch and many many more. I am pretty critical about reviews but with Dar Al-Yemen, I will make an exception. Some dishes like lamb haneed and chicken may only be ready later in the day around 1-2P, but definitely worth the wait. The taste is also fabulous, and you will want to come back for more if you are a foodie. Definitely worth going back for more. Plan on going back 6th weekend in a row from Long Island to Rockaway Blvd - 40 mins drive. read more

First of all, me being Korean, I do not know anything about Yemeni's food. I went to this restaurant because my friend recently went here and felt in love with this restaurant. I was surprised to find that there was not a single review on yelp. We ordered lamb and chicken haneed. Before the main dish came out, we were served with this soup. all my friends liked soup but It was just okay for me. Next thing was mixed salad which I thought it was very fresh and refreshing with squeeze of lemon. Also, we got hummus with sauce to dip in it and I liked this. Main dish however, I was not a big fan of it. Again, maybe this is the way this dish supposed to be but I felt like they overcooked the meats. From what I know, this dish is supposed to be cooked in oven for long period of time and meats supposed to be very juicy and moist. This was not the case. Meats were very dried. Good thing about lamb though, it did not have any kind of typical lamb smell to it so I was able to eat it. Portion was ehhh... we paid $200 for party of 5 and amount of meat which they gave us was laughable to me. Not worth $200 at all. Service wise, do not expect any kind of friendly service from this place. Looks like they will included tip in the bill for party of 5 or more which I am okay with it only if there was proper service. Overall, food was okay but bit pricey for amount of meat they give you.
