Darien Toy store has an amazing selection of toys that are educational and fun. They have the newest toys on the market. Despite being a small mom and pop store, their prices are excellent. I buy birthday presents there as well as gifts from my family. I cannot recommend them more. The owner, Mr. Jensen, is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Plastic and some European so it's worth the stop but it's not anything near what I'd hoped for in Darien. Where are the high quality toys and the mindful options for children these days? Is everyone just plugging in the kids to electronics? Scary as this is an affluent subculture and the prodigy will be highly influential in the world we live in. Does the cheap plastic imported from China really teach good values? I know that a business has to stay in business which means that they have to sell what the people demand but a few more tasteful options would go a long way. read more

I work in Darien and have visited the Toy Box several times after work to pick my son up a toy. The gentleman is SO friendly and very helpful. He is very honest about which toys are good for your child and which they could do without. I actually went to add on a purchase at the counter...some sort of putty, and he basically told me, that's a messy one- you might want to try this instead. So I appreciate the honesty! Also, the Toy Box has great, unique toys. Not like the big box store stuff you can find on amazon- but the cool, unique toys you've never even seen before. Great prices too, especially for Darien. The owner of this shop knows everything about kids age, gender, and what toys they will like. I also love the Christmas event he helps put on in the grove plaza. I gladly help a wonderful small business owner stay in business. I am confused at the other review, because these are mostly Eco friendly, battery free learning toys. Darien Toy Box is one of those rare toy stores and has so many beautiful gifts to choose from. The toys are one thing but the staff are the nicest. Martha the salesperson goes out of her way to help find the perfect gift for the child. Bill the owner is so knowledgeable about what toys sell to what age range so, it takes all the guessing out, as my children have grown so I am a bit adrift when it comes to choosing... but when it comes to finding a gift for my daughter's bf's child then the Darien Toy Box is my favourite place to go. It's so nice to go into a store and get great advice about what to get. The owner is completely in tune with what kids of each age like. The selection is not large but extremely well thought out -- toys that kids can learn from without even realizing it. Unfortunately I left this toy store so upset, I immediately knew I would be writing a review. While the toys are fine, my experience with the owner will keep me from returning to this store. The owner hovers over you and watches you like a hawk - god forbid if your child actually touches a toy! I might have as well been in a china shop! I would think that in deicing to open a toy store you would also have a interest in children and interacting with them rather then making everyone feel uncomfortable! John B is obviously insane. The Darien Toy Box is an amazing store with more unique options than you will find in a large chain. Of course you have to sell things people are going to buy. Staying in business is the main objective. However the owner's passion for delivering quality toys shines through in his quality offerrings from all of the world, and his excellent service (free gift wrapping on the spot! No waiting). I encourage everyone to visit periodically as new products are always being found and offerred to the patrons of the Darien Toy Box.
