Tried Dario's Taco Bowls for the first time ever and it was absolutely delicious! I have enjoyed each and every bite. I was never fond of taco bowls until I had Dario's. A perfect combination of all of your favorite foods! Sour cream, lettuce, cheese, steak, homemade nacho shell, you name it! Can't wait to go back again! Dario's is a must try if you are in downtown Newark! My friends rave about their taco salads and garlic chicken. I always get a quesadilla, which is basically two quesadillas held together with an extra layer of cheese. The quesadilla comes with a side of rice, sour cream, and salsa. The portions are plentiful and inexpensive. Also, while it is not on their menu, you can order platters of breakfast burritos that are filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage, and potatoes. These breakfast burritos are absolutely delicious. Whenever anyone brings them into our office, they are gone in minutes. You just need to make sure to place the order a day or two before you would like to pick them up. The workers here are always very friendly and greet you when you come in. The only drawback is the place is relatively small, so if you go during peak times it can be very crowded and hectic. However, the line keeps moving and you get your food relatively quickly. read more

Came in here to pick up an early dinner after hearing good things about it. I wanted something on the healthier side and opted for the Taco Salad. Turns out that it was definitely not a diet food, but it certainly was tasty. I guess the closest thing that I can equate it to is a better version of chicken and rice but definitely not as greasy. You have the option to get your salad on a taco bowl or they can make it without the bowl. The chicken was really tasty and well cooked. A little bit on the salty side but overall not too bad. My "salad" contained lettuce, rice, chicken, hot sauce, cheese, and white sauce. The staff was really friendly and waited patiently for me to decide what I wanted, while offering suggestions. This definitely is one of those places where you can get to know the people that work there and they remember you as well. I have eaten a good 10+ times from here (yes it's that good) and every time I get food from here it never disappoints. My favorite thing to get is a chicken taco salad. All of the ingredients is just delicious which makes me come back every single time. Dario's really does know how to season the food and make it super flavorful. If you go around lunch time (12pm) Monday-Friday you will find a long line but it moves super fast. Dario's has the BEST taco salad, my mouth waters just thinking about it. The meat is grilled perfectly and the seasoned rice is on point. My go-to order is the chicken taco salad with no shell which comes out to be about $7.50. They take cash and credit. There's not much seating space inside and the line can get long during lunch hours but the tasty food is worth it. The ordering process is a little confusing - you place your order at the grill (far right near the entrance/exit) then pay at the register once your food is ready. I don't know how these guys memorize all the orders coming in without writing anything down, pretty impressive. read more

The owner (I assume he was the owner) Allowed my sister and I to taste some of the meat and even offered my sister a job when she asked if they were hiring. Just a nice place and great eats. I also been here a second time and it was busy during lunch time but again the food was just amazing. Authentic and fulfilling. So glad I found a yummy Mexican spot so close to my office. Pros: -Dario is so personable and welcoming. Yes, he will call you "honey" a dozen times. It's not terrible. -The price difference between getting a chicken/beef whatever vs. getting it with steak is literally only 50 cents. First place ever that doesn't charge you like $2 extra. Amazing. -Steak burrito was delicious. Steak was sliced thin, like in a cheesesteak. Rice was also yummy. It looked kinda small, but it definitely filled me up and then some. Con: -Someone's review complained about the salsa being some like El Paso brand and I thought they were just being obnoxious and bougie. But, then I tasted it and understood. Everything else is such good, yummy quality and the El Paso or whatever totally does not match. It's like wearing a fancy outfit with some janky Keds. But anyway, overall tasty and cheap. This place is really good! I was downtown Newark, and initially was gonna do Ramen, but the closest Ramen spot had some turrible reviews. Although I do Mexican in Bushwick a lot, I was initially hesitant, but I definitely made the right choice!! I got the Veggie burrito with added Jalapeño, and he didn't charge me extra. It was loaded up with beans and sour cream, rice and onions and also corn and broccoli, which was different. It even came with a side of yellow rice, which I wasn't expecting! The guy making the food was nice and greeted me on the way in and in the way out. Not expensive either, as the burrito and a bottle of water was under $8.50. Couldn't eeeeeen finish the whole thing, had to take some with me. I just left and have an important phone call in an hour, so I'll try my best not to fall asleep in the park. This place is so so good! and cheap! I usually order the chicken quesadilla (spicy) with rice on the side. It definitely is not a healthy meal, but I usually split the quesadilla in two and eat it for two meals--it's pretty large! It's also super cheap. Think my meal comes out to around $7-8 each time. When you walk in, it's a pretty fast-paced environment, you kind of need to know what you want to get, because the line moves fast. There's a dude who cooks everything made to order right on the grill--it's a little chaotic, so the first time I went, I wasn't sure what exactly I was going to get. Everything here is delicious though. I wish they put a little more rice on the side, because you are paying an extra dollar for it and he only puts a tiny handful right now. They ask you if you want your burrito spicy, and you better say yes; their spices are great. There is a lunch rush so plan ahead. Each item is made to order so each order takes a bit more time as compared to a chain like Qboda or Chipotle. Burritos come with rice, salsa, and sour cream. I am getting hungry again just thinking about it. There is a good amount of seating inside so do not feel like you will have to grab your food and rush out. Relax. Take your time. If you're looking for a quick and flavorful lunch, this is the spot. Menu is Tex-Mex, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, taco salads etc. Everything gets a nice little char from the grill, seasoned with a hot sauce, corn, beans, and your choice of meat. Really tasty. Beside, we shld all be supporting local small business owners especially when their TACO BOWL is so so good. I have a co worker who eats here 4 days per 5 work days. Me , I usually get the taco bowl - beef shrimp or chicken. My favorite is the beef and it comes w beans, veggies, peppers, onions corn, and rice. It is a generous portion and very very affordable at 6.99/ bowl. The salsa sauce is to die for! Its home made from scratch w fresh tomato and onions. I don't know what the secret recipe is but the salsa combined w the perfectly cooked beef is a must try. What's also amazing is Dario, the owner. I stopped in to try out this restaurant, but unfortunately the restaurant was remissed in making authentic Mexican food. In my opinion, you can't be called a Mexican restaurant, and not have guacamole/avocado. Secondly, when i asked for green hot sauce, they didn't even have it, nor did have red Mexican hot sauce. Instead, they gave me your typical Chinese hot sauce. It was truly disappointing, I even asked them for a bowl without sourcream, and they couldn't even get that right. But, hey, don't let my review deter you, if you're really hungry and don't care about authenticity, go for it. But it's definitely not a true Mexican restaurant. read more

I've been looking for a great lunch spot near my work and I think I've finally found it. It's right on Academy Street, past the Dunkin Donuts. A lot of my coworkers think this place is a little dodgy looking, but honestly I think it's got a real authentic feel to it. Right when you walk in you're greeted by Dario, himself, as the main grill is next to the door. He's a really personable guy who's always cooking and shouting out the orders. So when you walk in, you'll usually see a crowd of people in front of the grill where Dario is working his magic. You can't be too shy or you might never get a chance to place your order. You need to walk up to the grill and give your order to Dario, himself, and then he'll usually ask you if you want it spicy and if it's to go. He takes on like a dozen orders at once, so every once in a while he'll forget, so make sure he's still got your order coming up after 5 mins. So far, I've had the chicken, chicken/beef, and shrimp burrito bowls (also called taco salads). They are all amazing, it really just depends what type of mood you're in. The combination of rice, corn, lettuce, meats, fried bowl, jalapenos and sour cream is perfect. The fried tortilla bowl provides the perfect crunch to go along with the taco salad. I'm not sure what type of rice they use (saffron?), but it's really amazing. Next time I'm going to try the Steak Quesadilla! Basically, Dario's is the best lunch spot in Newark, hands down! I've tried a dozen different places to find my go to place, but Dario's is way better and cheaper than all of them. Unfortunately for me, my department moved several blocks away so I can't get here as often as I'd like now, but once we move back to our old building nearby, I'll be back every day! read more

I'm new to NJ so trying different restaurants has become a little hobby of mine. I had Dario's for lunch the other day and I must say, it was very impressive! I believe one of the cook's is the owner - Dario, who is very personable and professional guy! I selected the Vegetarian Taco Bowl - pretty amazing but I don't think anyone who's a TRUE vegetarian would eat this, as it has sour cream and cheese. I would definitely try them again and recommend to anyone who's a fan of Tex-Mex cuisine! read more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Darios is the best Tex-Mex I've tried in New Jersey. I usually get their steak and chicken burrito and sometimes the Darios Special. The Special is a much better deal in my opinion because it comes as a platter with either a soft tortilla or a hard shell taco bowl. This option never fails and the portions are much better than the burritos. My friends get the tacos and the taco salad which they highly recommend as well. The chef will ask if you want your order spicy, but it really isn't spicy at all. If you like a bit of spice in your Tex-Mex bring your favorite hot sauce, or you're going to have to settle for the Cholula they have inside the restaurant. If I'm not mistaken all orders come with rice and beans which is a great plus, and if you ask for white and red sauce, the counter man will provide. They also have empanadas which are pretty good, but I've had better (especially for the price). This is definitely a place that professionals and employees from nearby buildings (Government building, Prudential, etc.) frequent and is usually really busy during the peak lunch hours. So if you're headed there on weekdays during lunch, expect a wait. read more

It was my first time visiting after hearing about how good the food was. I opted for the chicken and beef burrito was AMAZINGGGGG!
