My husband was craving a burger for dinner, so I decided to humor him. I'm usually more of a slider person and burgers aren't my first pick. We found ourselves at Chef Darko's pop-up, which turned out to be an awesome one-man operation set up in a random parking lot in Sierra Madre. Chef Darko told us he's cooked all kinds of cuisines over the years, but recently decided to do his own thing with this burger pop-up. We went with his OG smashed burger, though he also gave a strong recommendation for the chili hot dog. Maybe next time! We grabbed seats on the outdoor patio connected to the brewery, which was perfect because it meant I could enjoy my meal with my pup by my side. Chef Darko personally brought over our burgers, served on his house-made ube buns. He tells us the buns are baked fresh daily using ube straight from the Philippines. The burger came topped with cheese, onions, pickles, and mayo. For someone like me who doesn't usually go for burgers, I loved it. The pickles had a little kick and were nice and crunchy. Even my husband, who's usually not into bread, couldn't stop raving about the ube bun. He even ordered a second burger right after finishing the first! Next time, I'll see if I can ask for grilled onions instead of raw, but other than that, the OG smashed burger was a total win. We're definitely coming back. read more

We were walking around in the little town, and we discovered this pop up vendor inside a parking lot next to a brewery. Chef Darko greeted us with a warm welcome. He is very friendly and showed us his ingredients. They use ube burger buns. Menu is small, but that is what I like because I am often indecisive! We picked the OG Burger. The burger was made to order. The burger patty is bigger than the buns. The patty was tender and juicy. It was not overcooked at all! I love this place, and will for sure stop by again. Absolutely stellar culinary (and vibes) experience, hidden off the beaten path. Make your journey, it's so worth it. I joined Yelp because I absolutely love owner operators with passion, because they make a better product and love to make things better. Nobody I've ever found has embodied that more than Chef Darko. First off, the whole parking lot setup had room for my toddler daughter to play and pick flowers, and run over to me for the next round of deliciousness. My wife found a spot near her on the bench, while Chef Darko and I chopped it up a bit while he cooked. His story is one of realizing the things that really make us happy, and that by focusing on making something incredible from our own heart, the outcome can never be wrong so make that dream happen by any means available. Ugh, man I'm a fan for life. My man also has some good tunes keeping the vibe more than the sizzling of burgers. His creativity on the spot at the end of the day created one of most epic burgers I've ever had. We agreed we'd call it the Darkinator. My man really had a few things at the end of the day and created a fat boy challenge that I'll never forget. How many kinds of meat can a man handle? Oh, we WILL find out! Also, I'm a bit of a birria connoisseur so I had to try Chef Darko's take on it. A beautiful dish, with the acidity to cut through it all. The most original take that still was solid birria. And Da OG! This is what got us to swing by in the first place and it hit the spot, and a perfect bun because it wasn't too bread-y like some buns can get. Chill place with great food! I went last week for the first time and the chef complemented me on my SOAD shirt so we were talking about them for a bit. I came wanting to try the burger on the ube bun which is called the OG because he was the first to do the ube buns, which he told me he makes fresh each day. He was nice enough to give me one birria taco on the house. I also appreciated that he was willing to grill the onions for my burger. Everything was great! The burger was delicious and tasted high quality. And since I came here in a burger mood and not as much in a taco mood, the taco was a surprise star for me! He can COOK. I had his OG burger when he sold at a street food market. I don't live in SoCal anymore - I live in Vegas, but that burger can compete with the best burgers in Vegas. I think the sauce he puts in it is one of the tastiest burger sauces, I would buy a bottle of it. The one thing I wish is that the patty was a bit more crispy around the edges. It was kinda soft.
