Slate is definitely one of those stores. I stopped in on Christmas Eve just to browse around and I wish I could have bought everything in the place! It is a pretty hipster little store, and everything inside would be both useful to have in your home and serve as a conversation starter with guests. The items are unique, interesting, and high quality. There are kitchen gadgets, bar cart fixings, home decor items, greeting cards, jewelry...the list goes on. It's a great store and fits well with the Church Street aesthetic.

Several things:…read more - substandard initial (subcontracted ) installation -being asked your name, knowing the person is there, being put on hold, and after a couple of minutes being sent to voice mail - being quoted a $1,100 price for a failed part, and when questioned about its warranty, being told "oh right, it is" - took my electrician 5 hours to diagnose that my air conditioning failed to operate during the hottest days in July due to the defective generator part (transfer switch) and brookfields refusal to reimburse me for the cost of that diagnosis. ( how a defective generator part did not affect the generator itself but eliminated all 240 volt supply to my house remains a mystery)

He walked out from the back with just the expired battery he removed from my watch to show me. So, I said, "No, I want to see the package of the NEW battery you're putting in, so I know it's NOT EXPIRED." He returned with his supply (i.e., 2 batteries: both expired 2020). I asked him for my $15 back, and he REFUSED because he said I did not have my receipt. Then, to make matters worse! ... on my Google 1-STAR Review of LIPPA's he lied, saying he "could not find my name anywhere in his computer system" ~ trying to make it appear as if I had the wrong Jewelry Store (funny... He never did ask for my name today; he simply stated without my yellow receipt, he would not REFUND ME $15 for dishonestly placing an EXPIRED 2020 WATCH BATTERY in my wrist watch) A THIEF is a THIEF (thieves always lie; they have, or they get caught) and a LIE is a LIE: a Tiger doesn't change their stripes, no matter how big, or small their kill is. LIPPA's does NOT DESERVE Anyone's BUSINESS, or TRUST. ~ I suppose if I walked in with an expensive suit & tie to buy an engagement ring, he would have had the decency to behave himself better & not steal from someone 65 y.o. on a fixed income.
