Please strongly consider using this law firm for their services. My sister, a physician, experienced the rapid onset of severe cognitive problems. While she was waking crying up terrified that her brain was not working correctly, she was also expected to fill out disability forms to submit to her disability insurance carrier in order to be scrutinized. There could not have been a more difficult time for me and my family. While we had a family member who was unrecognizable from a cognitive standpoint, we needed to get her help so that she could focus only on the daily care she needed as well as rehabilitation. UPDATE 5/23/2025 My 2-year anniversary is coming up tomorrow. NEVER have I experienced a sincerely genuine attorney such as Heather Gardner with Darris Law! I have been given a second chance at life at a time when a person of my age, 58 and my disablities is not normally afforded. And that's all because of DarrasLaw. I found Darras Law while looking for someone to handle a case against a Disability Insurance Carrier that was refusing to pay a claim under my client's disability policy. I contacted Darras Law due to many of the positive yelp reviews. They were very nice and made it seem like they were the only company out there that would be willing to help me and take my case. Since they were the first company I contacted I am not sure if that is true or not. They requested my medical records and took longer than expected to review them, to the point that I was worried I would pass the window of being able to file an appeal. I was told the attorneys could help me with the appeal process by the intake staff but the attorney I consulted with wanted to go straight to lawsuit and I was hoping to participate in the appeal process first. I felt pushed into working with them. Most attorneys do not act pushy its pretty straight forward but this felt kind like a sales environment. Their contract also suprised me and I did not feel comfortable signing it. Its not a standard contingency agreement like most attorneys who work on contingency use. They take a portion of money for a set number of years. Its in the contract so they are upfront about it but talking to friends who are attorneys they felt the contract was a risk. I was told I did not have a good chance outcome if I wrote my own appeal and my monthly payment would be somewhere around $100 even if it was approved as I qualified for Pers disability retirement as well and with this you can get a reduced payment. They were right about the payment reduction but my appeal was approved on my first attempt. I wrote it without legal assistance and was approved for approximately $800 so the $100 estimation was way off and felt like another sales tactic. They were kind when I said I did not want to go ahead with representation. This did just not feel like a legitimate law firm to me. For those looking to hire any disability attorney my suggestion is do the appeals process first and be very detailed with it provide extensive medical records, and write a very detailed appeal and ask your doctor to write a detailed letter on your behalf. Insurance companies do like to cherry pick records Darras Law told me that and I agree that is true, if your doctor writes all the facts in a current letter its hard for the insurance to cherry pick and you will be able to keep your payment without a law like Darras Law taking a portion for a set number of years. This was a situation where I am so glad I trusted my instincts. read more
