Thought I would take a moment to speak of my experience with Darrell's Home Inspections. He was hired to inspect my home prior to purchase 2.5 years ago. Set an appointment time to meet him at the house to go through the entire house with him as he inspected it. I arrived on time but Darrell told me he was just wrapping up. He went over a few minor things with me. Toilet leaking a little and something else that did not impact my purchasing the home. Well, first full day in the home my wife ran the dish washer and it filled with water and did not drain. Needless to say that the enormous amount of water that came out of the dishwasher when opened was enough to flood the kitchen, but also to find it's way down to my finished basement and ruined many ceiling tiles. Then, I found that the rain shower head in the master shower did not function. Only the hand held sprayer. Found the control knob to be defective. Also found there to be a significant slant in the flooring of the home of which I am working around. When I confronted Darrell, he admitted that he didn't check the dishwasher nor the shower. I was left with absolutely no confidence that he really did anything other than test a few minor things. I have since found several other things with the house that should have been found and brought to my attention before making my final offer on the home. I insisted that he refund my money and he wanted me to sign an agreement that I would not sue him. I took my money back but would not sign his document. I just figured that others out there need to know about this experience so they could make a more informed decision on who to have inspect their potential new home. I've often thought that it's difficult to find home inspectors who do a good job and this situation has definitely not changed my opinion. Be careful out there. If I could rate a no star I would! I got my house fully inspected by Darrell. It was all in the clear-supposedly. Come to find out, after purchase, THERE WAS BLACK MOLD EVERYWHERE! I was supposed to have my home inspected by Darrell, however, for whatever reason he sent his son to do it...WHO ISN'T EVEN A CERTIFIED INSPECTOR!!!! After having his son inspect my home and telling me that everything was good to go I had another inspector come just to double check, and WOW.......the things Darrell's son missed were very IMPORTANT and VERY OBVIOUS PROBLEMS!!!! I WOULD NEVER REFER ANYONE TO DARRELL'S HOME INSPECTIONS, AND I am extremely ticked off that I spent $400 to have his uncertified son inspect my home and he didn't even have a clue what he was talking about!!!! I am really surprised to see so many positive reviews. We hired Darrell upon the recommendation of our realtor. His inspection came back with nothing. Not one issue. The house was 10 years old so we weren't shocked but I guess a little skeptical that not a single issue presented itself. Upon moving in we found that the kitchen sink leaks continuously, the air conditioning unit was not large enough for the house and the filter area was bent so that there was build up inside the unit. A specific issue I had discussed with Darrell and he told me was strictly cosmetic, was not and I found out that repairing that was $1000. Our neighbors who had similar issues (during building this was done on many houses) all had theirs replaced upon inspection when purchasing their homes. I sent Darrell an email letting him know I was disappointed that these things were not noted during my inspection. I asked for nothing in return and he didn't even take the time to respond to my email. read more
