A friend of mine referred me to Colby Freeman at Doyle Quain, Colby is a friend of her family. Because of the abuse I had to encounter during my 16 years of marriage, I was very inconfident and scared. I needed an attorney I could trust, so I went with the referral to Colby. I thought that since I am paying him thousands of dollars, I would have his loyalty. I got so screwed over in my divorce and I feel that it was because Colby sided with Frank. Colby and I had arranged for a couple of meetings between Colby & myself and Frank & his attorney..on the day(s) of both of these meetings Colby told me that I am not allowed in the meeting and that the three of them would be holding the meetings without me while I sit alone in his office. These two meetings lasted $$$ ALL DAY LONG $$$. I was afraid to stand up for myself and say that this is not OK. Colby later told me in private that if he had met Frank under different circumstances, he would likely be good friends with Frank. What kind of attorney says that to their client? That is very unsupportive. Anyway, the divorce finally became finalized but we had to go to court again because of some other BS that my ex was causing, so I got a new attorney. When my new attorney looked over all of my divorce paperwork, he said what the hell? This is all in Franks favor. How did you let this happen? Why did you agree to this? I explained that I was physically, mentally and verbally abused and that Frank had gone to jail for it and that I had a restraining order on Frank before even filing for the divorce. I feel that my attorney and my ex wore me down together, I just wanted it to be over, I would've done whatever my attorney told me to do. I was too scared to stand up for myself and I didn't know what to do...that's why it happened. I was left with very little to scrape by on while Frank got to reap the rewards of all the work we did together, all the business(es) we started and managed TOGETHER 100% from start to finish. I've started over now, much wiser but I would be more than a millionaire if I had half of what my ex and I earned together. And might I add: even though I showed Colby police reports and I showed Colby the restraining order, my divorce paperwork says that the reason for the divorce was because of irreconcilable differences. That is drastically different than what really happened, I filed for divorce because of unbearable physical abuse.

They did give a nasty little "if you're poor, don't retain us clause" in the contract I signed with them--what they failed to state in that contract is that they not only charge over $300/hour, they also charge more hours than would seem remotely reasonable for simple tasks. I worked with Lisa Rapoport specifically. She charged me SIX hours to review a fairly boiler-plate contract that the preparing lawyer had billed a mere two hours for creating and, rather than charging the six hours in one chunk, she split the six hours over two bills (billing 2 hours one month then 4 hours the next). I think she expected me not to catch it because, when I called her for clarification as to the continuing "review" of the contract, she became very defensive. She also had a habit of charging 30 minutes for ANY email I sent--even for 2 line emails--when the company policy specifically stated that emails would be charged in 15 minute increments (2 lines does not take more than 15 minutes!). I followed the appropriate venues to dispute the exorbitant 6 hours charge and was basically told to pay up or be sued. So, I paid because I didn't have the extra money to hire more lawyers to fight a law suit. Frankly, Leland et al, and specifically Lisa Rapoport, give lawyers a bad name. I realize they've got to make a living, but they need to do so ethically. This firm is not ethical, as can be evidenced by their support of Lisa Rapoport's unethical handling of her charges to me.
