The front desk staff Is unprofessional and rude. When I called to make my first appointment I asked if they took my insurance, they said yes and did not ask any questions. When I arrived with my seven year old, 45 minutes after leaving my home and finding parking, we weren't even greeted politely. When I gave my insurance card I was told that they weren't used to an insurance card that looked like mine and that they may not take my insurance. My card was an insurance issued card that I have always used before without any problems. I let them know that I called ahead and asked and was told yes we take Delta Dental. My complaint is not so much as to if they took my insurance as to how unprofessional and rude the front desk staff is. It's unfortunate that the behaved so badly, they lost a customer and I will warn everyone I know not to go there. read more

I was on vacation with my family when my 4 year old daughter had the beginning of a tooth ache. I asked around and Dr. Hirt came very highly recommended. We had an amazing experience. The waiting room was inviting and the staff were incredible. Dr. Hirt spoke to my daughter with so much patience. After a quick visit we were good to go. When my daughter was deliberating over which toy to go home with, I asked my daughter to hurry up so we don't keep the staff waiting. I just found the most wonderful dentist for my son. We both were ready for a new dentist and were happy to get the referral to Dr. Darrin. He was respectful, friendly and gentle. He explained what he was doing clearly and precisely and answered all of our questions with patience. He also made us laugh which is always a plus with a dentist! WOW.... I'm always SOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY when I find a great doctor/dentist! And "Dr. Darrin" is JUST THAT!!! What a fabulous ped dentist's office!! Dr. Darrin (Hirt) and his assistant are WONDERFUL. My daughter is 2 and it was her FIRST dentist appt. She SOOOOO enjoyed it... YES THE DENTIST!!!! They were so patient with her and explained EVERY THING that was going on step-by-step. She got to pick out her flavor of toothpaste, her color of toothbrush, and at the end of the exam, a brand new toy!!! She LOVED it. I was really "anxious" about this visit but Dr. Darrin and his assistant (I apologize - I've forgotten her name, but will call and get it) were so fun and helpful that my daughter thought she was having fun! My daughter had her first dentist experiences elsewhere. She had a fall as a toddler and knocked her front two teeth loose, so her first experience was very painful, and a little scary. We tried taking her to our dentist after that, but they could barely get her to open her mouth for them, even when she was laying on my lap coaching her through it. It didn't seem to get better. Then we scheduled an appointment at Dr. Hirt's office. His office assistant (Claudia, I believe), was AMAZING! She patiently walked both my now-five-year-old, and my two-year-old through every step of the process, so they'd know just what to expect. She was incredibly positive, and kind, and she listened to them so patiently. Dr. Darrin was great! You never would have guessed that my five year old had previously been scared of the dentist, and my two year old rocked it as well. Dr. Darrin was able to quietly deal with the small amount of plaque build up on my sons bottom teeth, without distressing him. When we got home, my 2 year old declared that he was taking a nap and then going back to the dentist again! We're thrilled to be working with your office! ps. they have a nice waiting room with kids books, a fish tank, and friendly seating. The whole experience was great. read more

My children's dentist sadly retired and I was in need of a new dentist. I brought my daughter to see Dr. Hirt. He was very pleasant and nice however, my daughter complained that the hygienist was rough and hurt her. My daughter who has seen a dentist twice yearly since she was two left the office with a clean report - no cavities! Since we live in Santa Monica and my daughter found the experience with the teeth cleaning very unpleasant, I found a dentist in my city who takes our insurance. I took my daughter to the new dentist in my city who asked me when was the last time my daughter had seen a dentist. I replied, "last summer" (six months ago). He informed me and showed me SIX, count them, SIX cavities in my child's otherwise untouched by drills mouth. I asked if it were possible that these could all have occurred since her last check up. He said a few of them could not have! I thought the responsible thing to do was to call the office and inform them of this and write this review. Beware. This dentist was recommended by my pediatrician and I scheduled a visit based on the Yelp reviews. I took my 3 year old to see Dr Hirt, which was his first visit to the dentist. The staff was extremely professional, and the Dr Hirt and the dental hygenists were great at placing my child at ease. Dr Hirt addressed all of my questions, and has a great bedside demeanor. The dental cleaning had chocolate flavored cleaning paste, which my son likes - your child can pick their own flavor. The DVD machine wasn't working, but it was possible to watch a video while the cleaning was taking place. At the end, there were several toys as a reward for a good visit. Beverly Hills always has a ton of traffic so factor in a few more minutes for getting there, and there is 2 hours of free parking by the Rite Aid read more

My kids always have a good experience here. The hygienist is very gentle with both my children. She even had my older child, who has challenges staying still and waiting for his younger sister to get her teeth cleaned, help with the cleaning process (holding the little suction tool with her when she needed it). She really knew how to work with toddlers (1 and 4). Dr. Darrin, as he is referred to, is always kind and gentle with my children. He answers all questions in a manner that is easy to understand, and prepares us for what's to come in the next check up and cleaning. Dr. Hirt is my daughter's dentist for over 2 years now, recommended by a friend. My daughter never had cavities or any other problems with her teeth up until 10 years old. That is when we started coming here. Dr. Hirt found and treated two cavities, and my daughter had no complaints so ever. He is funny, cool and experienced with kids, that is obvious. My only negative comment here will be about his front desk. See, I always arrive to my appointments a little earlier, because I value other people's time. Last visit was not an exception, we arrived 10 minutes earlier, and while we sat there waiting to be called, another patient walked in and asked if they can be seen without an appointment. And to my disapointment, the receptionist walked them in! That delayed us by 20 minutes...and I did not appreciate that. Would that be nice if I did not show up for my appointment and spoil office's schedule? Or show up late? Or delayed a bill payment? Please, consider that. read more

Dr. Darrin is a wonderful dentist who has been cleaning my children's teeth for years. Every time we come in, he is so friendly and gentle with them. He gives each of them attention and care and in his special way always says just the right thing to make them feel comfortable and laugh. My kids love going to dentist. I also love going to the dentist because I feel my children are getting the most professional and state of the art care. The staff is efficient and congenial. Appointments are managed with ease and the kids rarely have to wait to be seen. None of my three children has yet to have a cavity and I give Dr. Darrin credit. His cleaning and monitoring of their teeth has been very careful and thorough. For a while my family was living away from California but we would wait until we were back in Los Angeles to see Dr. Darrin because he is so good. My four children have been seeing Dr. Darrin Hirt for over 10 years. He is the best dentist I have ever seen. My oldest who is now an adult told me she wishes she could still see Dr. Darrin instead of going to her new adult dentist. WHAT A HORRIBLE DENTIST- DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE! i went to dr hirt upon the advice of a friend...clearly she does not know a good dentist...he and his assistant were with my son for BARELY TEN MINUTES!!!..his assistant barely cleaned my son's teeth - it was ridiculous- they DID NOT even floss his teeth, teach him how to brush- tell us what foods to avoid for dental care/cavity prevention - WHICH IS WHAT I TOOK HIM TO THE DENTIST FOR! - yet i got a bill for i think $165- for ten minutes?? IF THAT?? are you kidding me!??? I think the hygienist was with us for about 6 minutes and dr hirt about 4- didn't tell us what foods to avoid to care for teeth until I asked him, etc..he was literally with us for TWO minutes and then when he literally went to leave (he counted his teeth for about 2 minutes- did NOT even say " now i am going to check for cavities" - so then got up to leave and so i asked him, "what foods/drinks should he avoid to not get cavities,"etc so I think that gave us the other two minutes -MEANWHILE IT WAS THE EARLY MORNING AND THERE WAS NOT ONE OTHER CHILD IN THE OFFICE SO it wasn't as if he was rushing to another child! i am now going to have to take him elsewhere to have his teeth REALLY cleaned and his cavities checked..i am sorry i didn't read the other reviews beforehand... I literally was so upset I went on yelp to WARN other parents to AVOID THIS OFFICE!!! read more

I agree with one of the one star comment posted here. Try to bring your child to other dentist to be sure that they really has no cavity. Because I have the same experience with them, the Dirt team always says my son is "clean", but when we took him to other dentist while on vacation, we found out he has 2 cavity, in fact one is very bad, that he has to do root canal!!!! So don't just go for the toys, make sure you really check otherwise you will be sorry later, just like me. read more

I HIGHLY recommend Dr Hirt. He has been seeing my 5 children for over 8 years and has been absolutely wonderful. They actually look forward to their appointments with him. His hygienist is very competent and caring and Dr. Hirt is exceptional at working with the kids. He's taught my children how to brush and floss (though they're a bit lazy sometimes) and how to eat right (with some occasional sugar binges). Dr. Hirt is knowledgeable and very competent.
