If I could give this place 0 stars I would. We brought my dog, a friendly and gentle golden doodle, with us and waited in the parking lot to make sure dogs were allowed before entering the apple picking area. Although there were dogs inside, we were told by employees to put our dog back in the car as they stated there was a free roaming farm dog on the premise. There were no signs in the parking lot stating that dogs were not allowed nor was there a sign stating there was a dog free on the premise. As we were a couple feet away from my car to put my dog back inside, a vicious and unleashed German Shepard dog charged at my dog and me and began attacking her. The dog did not respond to the employees calling its name. Thankfully I protected my dog and she was not seriously injured as far as I can tell. I had to shield my dog from the German Shepard that continuously tried to get at her. I am seriously disheartened and upset with how this manner was handled. Small children and their families come to this orchard. This German Shepard should have at the very least been leashed to protect the visitors. I write this review to caution others with small children, friendly dogs, and even services dogs as this is not a safe or welcoming environment. read more

Small orchard, so there is no extras like tractor rides. pick your own is $35 a bag. They have pumpkins and really pretty mums. Very small farm stand size store, with cider and canned things. I've never been here but I don't think it's fair for two people from the same party to give a 1 Star review at the same time. It's a pick your own orchard, with a gift shop. There's very little to mess up. Apparently there aren't signs labeling the trees. Whatever, it's a small business and it's apples. Don't be picky about your apples and this won't be a problem. As with any other piece of property that isn't your own, I do not recommend climbing the trees. But you weren't going to do that anyway because you're a respectful human being, aren't you? ***Dartmouth Orchards*** *****ALERT***** I want to warn everybody about this place we went here today because we wanted to try someplace closer to home. My daughter-in-law reviewed this place and on its home web page for reviews they were fine, on Yelp is much different. We went here today just the family and towards the end my grandson Ryder was climbing one of the apple trees, which mind you were very small and we had no idea what apples were what bacause again no signage. The owner of this Orchard came out screaming at the top of his lungs at us all from across the orchard, and his tone didn't change as he got closer, asking us who is parents were saying thank you because of whatever reason he thinks that a 7 year old boy climbing a tree is going to kill it. He screamed at us for at least 15 minutes because Ryder was in the tree. No signs posted stating not to climb the trees. He got so close to me at one point pushing his chest out to me like I thought he was going to hit me. I will never ever go back here, I will never recommend this place. He had my grandson in tears walking out of this place. This man needs a serious reality check. How he still in business is beyond me. read more

I'd like to thank the owner of this farm for making our visit there a horrible experience. If it wasn't for you accusing me and my family of going to steal apples we would not have driven 5 minutes further to Noquockoke Orchards. Not only did they not accuse us they let us sample any apple we wanted. Told us all about the different kinds they grow and gave us true farm hospitality! Plus their apples were half the price as yours. You said it was because of people like us small business have a tough time staying in business. I say it's because of poor customer service. We continued down the countryside stopping at many other small business able to because we didn't drop all of our money on your one small bag of apples!!! read more

OK so I am going to let you in on a little secret of mine..... Dartmouth Orchards is a little roadside stand open in the late summer and fall. They polish their apples right in the building, you can see them rolling around right before your eyes..cool...seen it before but the apples are good. You can get fresh apples a lot of places. You should go here not just because of the fruit but because of the PICKLES!!!!!! GOOD AND EVIL PICKLES!!!!. A secret concoction if I ever break the code who knows what will happen maybe good or maybe evil. Medium jars with sliced cucumbers, the short way, big cloves of garlic, jalapeno rings and a secret pickling potion. REDICULOUS on hamburgers for starters. I find myself snacking on them at all hours right out of the jars. I swear if I go there and there are no jars of Good and Evil Pickles left...this post is coming down. YOU BETTER SHARE! read more

It's a very pretty orchard with a friendly staff, but it wasn't our best apple picking experiences. First off - and most importantly - the orchard isn't labeled/marked well! There were some trees that had a small sign indicating what kind of apple tree it was (mostly Empire), but the orchard was predominantly unmarked, which made the apple picking less fun and more frustrating. The website advertises all these different types of apples, but what good is that if you don't know what you are getting? I mean, I consider myself a fairly competent person, but even I can't identify all apples by looking at them. There were some signs that had apple tree types written on them, but were not in front of a tree? So that was really, really disappointing. Secondly, there was very little variety available at a reasonable picking-height - even for my tall husband. This was the first orchard I have been to that didn't offer some sort of picking tool to grab the high-up apples. My husband and I meandered around the orchard for about 20 minutes before deciding to just grab Empire apples because they were the most available, and what we could identify. My second point explains all the huge "NO REFUND" signs, since once you purchased your bag-size and were brought out to the orchard, it was pretty much your tough luck if you were able to fill that bag or not, and I think maybe they knew that? Anyway, an overall disappointing experience. We gave Dartmouth Orchards a shot, but will not be returning. read more

We visited the orchard today and the girls working there were kind and courteous. The girls and owner introduced us to both of their dogs, one who was sleeping in the back room (my boyfriends daughter went right back there to meet her). They directed us on where to go to pick your own apples and provided directions. The only thing I would ask is for better signs to identify the kind of Apples. Apples were plentiful and we had no problem filling our bag. When we were done I went back into store To buy some cider and the owner told one of The girls to give my bfs daughter a Bee Buddy- a small stuffed bee who was so cute. This completely made her day! I don't understand why the reviews are so negative about the owner of the orchard. Last Sunday my boyfriend and I took my daughter there to pick our own apples. Even though it wasn't quite apple picking season, the owner was kind enough to let us do it anyway. One of his wonderfully behaved dogs accompanied us while we picked our apples and my daughter had a blast playing tug of war with her. I found the apples to be perfect and quite delicious! The staff was very friendly and even offered to take a family photo for us! Overall, this orchard is beautiful and the service is excellent. We will definitely be visiting again!! read more

$18 to pay upfront for a small bag before going in the orchard which I don't really mind at first BUT then I was disappointed when nothing really to pick good quality apples ( specially the gala ones). Barely few signs for varieties of apple trees. Refund is not allowed if you decide not to pick because of the situation. This would be our last visit. I went here on a whim with my Mom and Husband on the hunt for raw honey. We found it, but not just that he explained the whole process of harvesting honey and sharing the knowledge behind it. It was a late rainy Friday afternoon so it was very quiet. When he found out it was our first time visiting he insisted we stayed for some of their cider which was oh so delicious!! I wish I had read the reviews before going. The selection is not great, all the larger apples are at the top of the trees where you can't get to them, and there are no signs to let you know which apples are which. They had one young girl that stood at the front of the orchard pointing to different areas and say cortlands are over there, macintosh are over there, and then you had to try to memorize where each type of apple was. You had people wandering around asking "Do you know where such and such apples are." And for $25.00 for a small bag It just was not worth it. I noticed there were several reviews regarding the owner yelling and being really rude, and I saw that for myself today. As one reviewer put it, he should stay at home and let his staff interact with customers. read more

This place was awesome! Just fair warning, picking is from 10 to 4 but that is perfectly fine! The orchard is extremely easy to get to. It's a beautiful little stand, reminds me of back home in the south! We got a 1/2 bushel bag and we were lead back to the orchards. Before they let us loose they gave us some of their homemade cider to try (which was AMAZING) and offered to get our picture for us! They told us the rules and ended by saying "Be sure to try some of the apples while you're out there and over fill your bag!" The staff are all extremely friendly! So many trees FULL of delicious apples just waiting to be picked! We got a good 20lbs of apples in our bag! I would LOVE to go back and try their canned goodies! We were so excited to pick our own apples at this farm with great reviews...But when we pulled up to the farm, we started down the road and an employee (or possibly the owner) started yelling at us, "Back up! This isn't your driveway! Stupid fucking people!" There was no sign saying where to park (it's a tiny lot in front of the farm stand, so it's not very clear where to park for apple picking) and no sign saying not to enter the driveway. We took our business elsewhere... about 15 miles to Old Stone Orchard in Little Compton, RI (33 Colebrook aka Coldbrook Rd)... worth the short drive. We loved the orchard, and the staff (and two dogs!) were very friendly. If you want to pick your own apples in this area, stay away from Dartmouth Orchards! read more

I have always wanted to go apple picking and decided to try Dartmouth Orchards for both the proximity and the different apple varieties they proclaimed to have on their website. I went with 3 other adults and 2 children. first, let me start by stating, you have to pay $18 for the bag, which I found very expensive, I mean you can get apples cheaper anywhere and I would think that they would give you a bag and charge by how much you picked rather than a flat price.you weren't allowed to have any other bags with you and they told another customer she had to leave her diaper bag in the car. I get you don't want people stealing all your product, but they stated so in such an accusatory way. Second, the trees were not marked at all, so I had no idea what apple varieties there were, although they all looked the same. There were a couple of young girls who were walking around the orchard giving you samples of cider in between being yelled at by who I presume is the owner. They were not able to help with what varieties there were. Oh and that cider was offered to you in this manner - "would you like to try some cider? It is not pasteurized but we've never had a problem before." What? Third, there were more apples on the ground than the trees themselves, I spent much of the time there trying not to step on crushed apples. The apples that were are the tree are quite small. Fourth, even the fruit they were offering inside the stand was expensive and the stand was very small and more then 3 people in there was tight. Lastly, they were selling mums, again very expensive - a 3 qt size was $7.49 and they did not look that healthy. So needless to stay, my first experience apple picking was disappointing but I will definitley try again at another orchard of course! read more

We went apple picking here. The trees were unmarked & the apples were small. We did not know what we were picking and the employees didn't seem confident either. On the way in we heard a man (assuming it's the owner) screaming at employees. On the way back we heard him screaming again, this time about sneaky people and stupid people with profanity. we will not be returning or recommending this place to friends and especially not family. If I could give a Zero star I would. We normally go to Stowe in Ma to Honey Pot Hills but we decided to try a place closer. The orchard was small, the apples were small, there was barely ANY to chose from. Nothing was labeled so you didn't know what you were picking. Every apple orchard we have been too there was ladders and you could climb the trees. There was no sign saying you couldn't here so my son wanted to. The owner came out SCREAMING! Saying get out of the tree! Where are the parents. Thanks a lot, thanks a lot. First off all you had to do was say please don't climb the tree. Instead he was yelling made my 7 year old son ALL upset thinking he did something so wrong. Got in our face with his cigarette hanging out his mouth. My mother in law told him that was wrong and disrespectful! How do you stay in business screaming and yelling. Told us we ruined apple picking for everyone.. we will NEVER recommend this place to ANYONE and we will forever go back to Honey Pot Hills. My fiancé was trying to talk to him normally like civil people and all he did was YELL. Didn't care what we had to say. Bad customer service. read more

Dartmouth Orchards is one of the few remaining orchards on the South Coast. The owner seems determined to make it fail through his poisonous, hot headed tirades about anything that vexes him. Town politics, taxes, local development, Section 8, "fake" farmers, hobby farmers, rich people. He would do better to stay out of the way and let his hired help be the public face. I have stopped going there and now go to Noquochoke Orchards on Drift Road in Westport. They have a better selection of apple varieties, plums, peaches, nectarines and corn, which they grow and do not ship in like other roadside stands do. Noquochoke Orchards uses best management practices through UMass Amherst directives to minimize chemical sprays unlike other orchards in the area. read more

Spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Dartmouth Orchards last week apple picking with my love. The orchard is lovely and not too far off the beaten path in Dartmouth, near many other farms selling things like raw milk (if that's up your alley) and various produce. There are many, many varieties of apples and the only ones you can't pick are the honey crisp, which I guess is common at orchards as they're sellable on their own. We got the smaller picking bag ($18 for a peck) and spent a good twenty minutes filling it up with empire, gala, and various green apples. Dartmouth Orchards also sells a variety of plants, pumpkins, and some goodies in their gift shop. Gravel parking in front of the main shop is limited so you might have to walk a bit as they'll let you park on parts of the grass too. We drove to Buzzard's Bay Brewing after which is only about a five minute away, so if you come on a Saturday keep that in mind for future adventures as well. read more
