It's our hope to find a property in this town in the next couple of years or so and took this jaunt down here to have a more detailed look-see on what we called a "working vacation". One morning we decided to pop in to say hello..we hadn't yet made a formal appointment with Mr. Dukes, but he welcomed us right in and sat down with us for what was a most helpful conversation and to take a look at some properties on a wall mounted flat screen TV. It was a broiling hot morning already and he kindly brought us bottles of ice water. It's a lovely office, nicely decorated and with all the amenities. It's a comfortable space and clearly this company does well for itself. We told him what we'd seen already and given our interests he pointed out a number of other areas he thought we should explore. He showed us areas and properties on that big flat screen...high tech and helpful. We took all his suggestions driving through all of them. They were most appreciated and on point. As a result we were able to settle on a particular part of town (one of the islands) in which we find ourselves very interested. We also had an opportunity to talk to another agent named Colleen. We called her one day when we discovered a property we thought was interesting and wanted some information. She spent a long time on the phone with us helping us understand the area, the particular house we were looking at, tax considerations, etc. When the time comes, this is the real estate agency we will use. In the meantime we have a focus which was part of the reason for our journey. We're grateful for the groundwork they helped us lay and the courtesy with which we were treated even though they knew we were not immediate buyers. These are signs of not only good service but show that they are smart business people. Definitely a class act here.

The island is beautiful, the fact that it is a preserve is so great. Deer everywhere. Alligators too. Beautiful beaches, and tons of choices in where to hang your hat while you are there. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars, is they have no recycling program that we could find. With a meeting like we had, it was a shame to see all of those recyclables end up in a landfill.

I'm writing the review I wish I could have read before booking. We rented Sea Cabin at 3116…read morePalmetto. The price was low for a beachfront property, so we knew it would be rustic with few updates, which was totally fine with us. However, the house is run down and needs a serious deep clean. Dust bunnies and dirt inside the bread box, a thick layer of grime and cobwebs along the porch ledge and windowsills. The washing machine full of sand and grime. There is no beach supply closet with chairs and plastic beach toys like most rentals. Their beach shed has an old dirty toilet in it. There are pallets of old wood just laying around in the covered parking area. There are 2 fridges, which is nice, but one has no sides on any of the shelves, rendering them useless. No ice makers. Only 2 plastic trays that were empty on arrival. Couldn't locate a single dish towel anywhere. Not a shred of toilet paper in any of the 3 bathrooms when we arrived. We are happy to buy our own, but isn't leaving at least a portion of a roll just understood?? Everything I listed above I can overlook- but here is the main reason for our disappointment. THE BEDS! Every single mattress is terrible. And every single bed makes a loud creaking noise with the slightest movement. And the doors on the bedrooms are the slatted closet type sliding doors so sound travels and there is little privacy. It was impossible for us to get a good nights sleep. And after waking up from fitful rest with a sore back, none of the other furniture in the home was comfortable either. There was just no relief. The beach behind the house is small- especially at low tide. The realty company was pleasant to deal with, and I realize the homeowners and cleaning staff share in the responsibility for the condition of the home. But when I booked, I asked the employee if I could read any reviews of the property. She said they don't provide them. I asked if there was ère any reported issues with the house and she said she wasn't aware of any complaints. I find that hard to believe since there is another 1 star review of this same property on this site. This was not a good experience and we won't be back.
