Beware! If you have kids with you, you kind of need to edit the entire place or keep them close to the ice cream. Talking with the employees was great. They were all helpful. One lady in particular was extremely knowledgeable about the products and the area, and was extremely nice. It is a tourist trap and priced like it, but overall a clean one with some fun stuff. I mean, python jerky?!? We tried the date shake. It was quite tasty. We purchased dates and ended up choosing camel jerky for the kids. There was a brief moment of, "would anyone eat the tarantula if we bought it?" - NAH. We left it for future customers, along with snackable crickets and bugs. This is normally a good stop for fuel and bathroom break. And they have added at least 20 tesla charge stations. So it's huge. BUT: They have no functional bathrooms for any customers. Staff, but not customers and no porta potties to assist. And they have known for a couple days. SO: Drive 15 miles sir to the next rest area. I'm sending everyone there. Poor client service plan. Great place to stop at going out to Arizona! I usually head over to Dateland for recharging and to grab food and snacks, as well as their "world famous" date shakes which are really good. Dateland is in a really unique space since there really isn't too much out there besides rest stops or you would have to drive several miles to get to a similar spot somewhere else. Dateland offers a gas station, convenience store, pizza hut, Dateland shakes, Tesla supercharger station, and a gift shop. Most of the places inside the travel center are open pretty late so it's not too bad to roll over here late in the evening for a pit stop, especially since other stations aren't really around that offers this level of variety to you on your drives. Always marry a man who is willing to make stops on a road trip. I love coming to Dateland on the drive from Phoenix to So. California because it's such a unique place: every kind of snack you can dream up, a Pizza Hut inside, ice cream, hot dogs, a date bakery and of course the famous date shakes. I'm not drawn to dates but my husband loves them - he purchased some honey dates this visit. My sister always requests that I bring back some of their date BBQ sauce. (It's a thing) I could also spend a lot of time perusing the aisles of Arizona souvenirs and tchotchkes they carry but the road beckons. I always say I have to stop here to use the restroom but it's really an excuse to look around and buy some stuff. It's a fun tradition! read more

My best friend, "Tin Man" had never had a date shake b4, so we had to stop. "Thickest shake I ever had", he said. So thick that sometimes the straw gets totally clogged with date particles. Dateland is a must stop for us when heading from AZ to CA. It is a rest stop but they have so much. The date shake is what we stop for. I don't know if it's because the drive but it's always the best treat ever and so refreshing! They have fresh bags of dates and all of your normal travel stop trinkets and souvenirs for purchase. This is a great stop on the way from Phoenix to San Diego. Right by Yuma. Air conditioned. Nice and clean bathrooms. Travel center has local AZ mementos - shot glasses, magnets, cowboy hats, jewelry , children's books, home decor, etc. really nice stuff. There's a gas station with a convenience store. There's also a stand where they serve the famous date shakes. Lucky i go to Phoenix often. Was not able to try the date shakes but plan to do so in the future. read more

If you have ever done the drive between Phoenix and San Diego on the I-8, you have probably passed by this place. There are a bunch of date palm trees right behind the travel center. There is also a sign on the building advertising their World Famous Date Shakes. The Dateland Travel Center is a gas station, convenience store, gift shop and a date bakery. These medjool dates are grown and harvested right here in Dateland. They sell them in gift boxes and in jars as a butter or BBQ sauce. In the bakery, you can get date bread, candy, ice cream, cookies and muffins. They make all sorts of date products here. But what Dateland is famously known for is their date shakes. They are really good! You can even purchase some date shake mix to take home for later. Heads up - dates help your body produce melatonin. Sometimes I feel sleepy after having one of these shakes. I had to pull over once and take a mini nap at a rest stop after having a shake. Dateland Travel Center is open 24 hours. But the bakery is only open 8am to 9pm. The store has all sorts of gifts and souvenirs. They even sell exotic animal jerky and edible insects. There are some really interesting things here. The store doesn't look like much from the outside, but Dateland Travel Center is worth a quick stop if you have some time. read more

Clean restrooms, and even a dog run, but your dog would be put on the blaring sun. My partner and I love medjool dates and we were so excited to visit Dateland until. . . we went into the gift shop and we saw the MAGA and Trump hats. We turned around and we walked out the door. If you don't want to support Trump, don't go there. And their prices are absurd! You can buy just as good of medjool dates at Costco for a third of the price. read more

We came here to charge our car. They have multiple Tesla chargers here but only 4 non-Tesla chargers and currently one does not work. We figured we might as well get a date shake as well since we were here. They offer your standard date shake for $5.99 for a small but you can also add additional flavors or malt for an extra charge ($1.39 I think). While there was a bit of a line it moved fairly quickly. The small size date shake I got was plenty of shake for me and while I enjoyed the flavor I'm not sure I liked the pieces of thin date skin mixed in with the shake. read more

He was so nice and so polite and offered assistance because I am handicap and needed help to grab napkins and straws. What a treat in basically the middle of no where. My husband and I joked when we first passed the travel station on our way to San Diego. On our way back however he was like let's stop. Great stop when traveling from Tucson to Yuma or San Diego! The bathrooms are exceptionally clean as is the entire establishment. We bought date banana bread and date coconut rolls. Both delicious and all made on the premises. We're going to stop on the way back to Tucson to buy more dates. There are so many date options as well as Arizona souvenirs. There are two check out areas. One of the workers (a guy) was friendly and upbeat and the other seemed very unhappy to be working. I hope the guy is working when we return. read more

Dateland is in between Yuma and Gila Bend. 40 mins for Gila Bend and hour for Yuma. Great rest stop to use the restroom and get some dates. All kinds of dates for the road, gifts, Pizza Hut and try date shakes or ice cream! Even baked goods! The restrooms are clean. You're able to ask for samples to try the ice cream or shake. There other flavors like cactus. I sampled the cactus shake and it tasted like strawberry. The date flavor shake was like vanilla with a hint of dates. The date ice cream was the winner. I guess they're both the same it's just the ice cream is was more condensed while the shake was runny. Made the mistake of getting two scoops and boy, that was more of like 4 scoops! The place is a clean and welcoming break from the monotony of traversing the desert on I-8. I had a wee bit of sticker shock from some of the prices inside. The dates seemed to be reasonable but the kitsch prices were a bit of a shock. I mean if you don't want to part with your merchandise; put it in sealed glass cases. Their gas prices were more on a par with California prices per gallon (pictured) so why get it here, you'll save quite a bit if you either fill up in Gila Bend or at a travel center at the border in Yuma. read more

The last time I stopped at Dateland, the old building still stood (so pre-1997). It was hot. I was young. This time, it's winter, I'm old, and the hubs and I stopped, bypassed the Pizza Hut, and had a date shake for lunch. Thick. chewy. Sweet. Spectacular. Picked up some of owner Roland Walker's date BBQ sauce for date night. Pun intended. Wish we had taken some photos of the palms before heading back to Phoenix... next time! Clean bathrooms. YAY. Tesla chargers. Awesome. Ambiance/experience of getting the infamous date shake sure isn't what I remember, it just looks like a highway stop that happens to have date shakes. We were on our way home from Phoenix to Yuma after hearing bad news about my fiancé having to have surgery and our car broke down and AC stopped working and it was 116*. After having to call the ambulance due to me having heat stroke we got the car running but no AC. We stopped here for drinks and the workers were so awesome. They told us to sit and cool off for as long as we needed to. It was such an awesome thing after such a rough day. read more
