This place is a bookstore, cafe, and study space all in one, and it has some of the best vibes in the Durham area (and they host events too) I came here to study, but I loved looking through the book selection, especially since they have books from local authors as well. A better coffee destination than book store. I went here with my wife and a couple of family members for a local trivia event. I was under the illusion that this was going to be a bar style trivia, and it was actually more like LGBTQ/Local trivia. That's great for inclusivity I just had another idea in my head of what the situation might be like. The space is rather small without much seating so for trivia we had to get there early to grab a seat. The coffee bar has a lot of tasty offerings but the book selection is pretty limited and not the broadest selection but I'm sure for those it's aimed at it excels. The space is very cute and there's lots of ample parking outside. This is a lovely addition to south Durham which is lacking in coffee shops and third spaces. read more

Well during my 6 hour odyssey of getting my car fixed between Jiffy Lube and Firestone, I walked down 55 for a brief moment of serenity. And I stumbled across this shop. Middle of a Sunday afternoon and every table was occupied. Very young crowd too. I guess the cool kids who avoid Starbucks hit this place up. They have several bookshelves to select a book from. The cafe beverage menu is quite extensive and they offer a few pastries as well. I ordered an iced chai with oatmilk and I had it within two minutes. That staff works quickly. I can't say it was a great drink, the spices weren't too noticeable. It tasted more like a cup of slightly flavored milk. Staff was quite jovial, so props for that. read more

What an absolute gem :) a very extensive and unique menu filled with drinks, some pastries from local areas, plenty of tables and couch areas to sit, study, or chat- and even a little play area for toddlers at the back! I came here with my friends and their kids, and they were completely occupied with their toys. The staff here are so friendly and very patient- gave great recommendations, also engaged with my friend's toddler, and also were so patient when we couldn't make up our mind for which drinks we wanted (they have some really unique specialty drinks- don't forget to look below the big menu for even more options). I really loved their cafe/bookstore vibe, plenty of fun little Knick knacks as well (pins, stickers, locally hand crafted toddler toys, origami rose bouquets... you name it). The books are well-organized, and if you buy certain books you can also get a free drink! I loved everything about this place, very cozy vibe and really fell in love with their space. My first visit to this spot was for my friend's book launch. It was in the evening so I ordered a hot apple cider (yum!) so I wouldn't be up all night from caffeine. I'd love to come back earlier in the day to try some of the coffee drinks another time though! The book launch included a conversation with Rachel Anderson author of "Being Human (Centric)", Q&A, and some mingling. The staff working were very kind and brought out more chairs for the group when all the spots filled up. I browsed the store before leaving. Cute place to visit and browse! There are lots of books and little trinkets to look through. The drink menu is also fun and inspired by book names. The Aphrodite's Embrace was really nice and visually pretty. My one reservation is that if you want a place to chat or study it might not provide a lot of privacy or quiet as the tables are all right next to each other. read more

Returned for more seasonal specials, the drinks were delicious and creative, so happy with them! They had a long line but service was friendly and reasonably speedy. I finally got a chance to visit Daughter's Coffee & Books off of NC Hwy 55, within the Greenwood Commons Shopping Center, very close to the DMV license office. As you enter the shoppe, your path to the counter is embraced by the cleverly arranged library of a varied assortment of books in the neat little sitting area, which also opens up to a cozy side area of additional chairs and tables. Seating in the foyer area is very comfortable to lounge in and read over the interesting selection of books as you enjoy sipping your cafe. I love the cleanliness of the place. They even have a Children's Nook in the rear corner of the cafe so that the kiddos can enjoy their little selves away from the adults. A very thoughtful layout, indeed. Once through the doorway, I was greeted by the exuberantly welcoming smile of Sophie, one of the attendants at the shoppe. She and her sister Francis were sooo very nice and expertly helpful with my selection drink and food. I decided on a savory hot latte and a Blueberry Danish. The latte was delightful; a perfect balance of acidity and earthy blooms in regards to mouthfeel. Exceptionally gentle touch to the palette with a light smooth finish. Hat's off to the barista. She's very quiet but, quite deadly on that expresso machine! Hahh Afterwards, I decided to stay a while, to soak in the pleasing ambiance and charming personalities of my new friends Sophie and Francis. Would you believe they actually took the time to chat with me during their busy workings of the day!? I know I was probably bugging them, but I couldn't help myself. They have a way of disarming your natural guard and making you feel right at home. Oh yeah...so there's this accent wall, whose design I thought was wondrously conceived by an Van gogh scholar! (smiles) I beseech you to pay this place a kind visit and take a bit of time to sit down, grab a book and relax to the great soundtrack of chill music playing throughout the space. I was so excited to check this place out after hearing about them on social media. The bookstore was very clean, well organized, bright, and welcoming, and I loved their center display. There was a small used book section but most of the books were new. There is a little cafe with drinks and pastries as well, and the barista was very nice. She informed me that they currently accept used book donations but don't yet have a store credit/buyback system in place although they hope to in the future. I love local bookstores and Daughters is a great addition! It's pretty spacious inside and there are lots of tables so I could see it being a great place to do some work / read. When an acquaintance told me about a hot new bookstore opening in Durham, I hesitated in taking the 40 minute drive, but was easily swayed upon learning that they served coffee too. I'm easy that way, apparently. As I write this, the lovely owners are enjoying a very successful grand opening. I got there at noon and the place was packed. Of course, everything was spotlessly clean, including the restroom, being a new business and all. Just like the name says, they serve coffee and they have books. And yes, it was well worth the hike, but I wish they were closer to my home as I need a new coffee hangout. Que sera sera, according to the song. The espresso hit the spot, especially since I didn't pay for it after learning co-owner Rachel and I have a mutual friend. It pays to know people, doesn't it? Don't even sit down yet. I have visited this coffee shop a hand full of times and every time their coffee has not disappointed! They always have fun book themed drinks to choose from. The staff is very friendly and the book store portion of the shop is amazing!! They have a great selection of new and used books, as well as a bunch of children's books. It's really nice to order a coffee and just peruse through the books. I would definitely say stick to the coffee though, as I have tried their matcha and was not a fan, but the coffee is so good I am happy to just drink that! read more

Daughters is a super cute, newly opened coffee shop and bookstore located in South Durham! I got the iced Alice Rabbit latte, which has white chocolate and blackberry- it was tasty and I could appreciate the chocolate flavor, but not really the blackberry. Also got the almond croissant, which was good- they source all their baked goods from Ninth Street Bakery. Ambiance is great: there's a good amount of tables and being surrounded by books is ofc wonderful. Service is nice & fast. There's a large parking lot. 10/10 would recommend, I just wish it was closer to where I live haha! read more

I discovered Daughters when they put up a little sign saying "Now Open!" I see it every time I go home via Sedwick Road. Living in the residential area behind this shopping center leaves no excuse not to visit. I made good on that statement this morning. I echo other reviewers who compliment the welcoming atmosphere. It beckons quietly, "Come, sit awhile." I brought a tumbler, filled it up, and got a book from one of the shelves. I wound up buying it to take home. I conversed with the ladies at the counter. We were there opening day, which admittedly is not the best day to check out a new establishment. The lines for coffee were long, and they missed part of our order -- they made my wife's drink but totally forgot mine. I had to get the attention of a server and show her my receipt. My wife also purchased a book and was happy with it. I'd say this is more a coffee shop with books than a full-fledged bookstore. Anyway, it's nice to have another coffee and bookshop option in South Durham. They seemed to draw a lot of patrons from Parkwood and nearby neighborhoods. We stopped in on our way through town to grab coffee. We also had some pastries, which were yummy. I loved this place. I love the atmosphere and the fact that many of the books are used, which means buying a hardcover book will not impact my ability to pay rent that month. I bought a book and a cinnamon roll. I bake, so I usually won't buy baked goods as I figure I can make it better myself for less money. The cinnamon roll was well worth it. The restroom is wonderful. They do not have ceramic mugs, but they are open to filling your cup or thermos, which is also environmentally friendly. No one wants more microplastics than we already have in our systems. I finally got to check this place out. From The outside, nothing special.....however, Inside, a different story. Inside a cute bookstore with a cafe atmosphere. There were cute stickers and odds and ends for kids to adults. It had the feel of the independent coffeehouses of the 90s. Quirky and quaint, not a factory feel of Starbucks. I got the chocolate factory hot latte, delish coffee.....not overtly sweet, can taste the beans of the coffee. My 13year old daughter got the pixie dust matcha iced. She loves it ....she beelined and found her Percy Jackson book. We also picked up a couple of pastries ...the banana walnut scone, protein ball, and the pumpkin bar. They were only $2 each, I think they were special as they had probably day old. Fine by me! The scone was a bit dry, probably since they were a day old, the other two were not. The protein bomb was yummy. It filling. The pumpkin bar was too big for myself to eat. Needless to say, I will be coming back with girlfriends to sip and chat again! read more
