The cutest little coffee shop!! There's been a buzz brewing about this spot so we had to get out and check it out. Not a lot of parking out front so they allow parking next door at Kings gr but they kept a line of folks. Yes it moved, don't worry. Fresh pastry variety was quite impressive. The goodies were: Vietnamese coffee donut & creamsicle donut from Red Start bakery. An apple pop tart, & blueberry cheese danish also caught my eye. Yes I got them all. There was more but a guy gotta have limits. But I'll just they were mmm mmm good. I'll have to get the donuts again. There is limited seating, and a children's play area which was so cool. I'm hard pressed to not get my jolt of Java so I got a cortado with a drizzle of caramel for a little sweetness. LOVED the flavor, would've loved it if a little hotter. My son-in-law got the Mexican Coke, vanilla espresso. It was cold and amazing as per him. My wife's latte also needed to be hotter. Omie's is a small hidden gem in Durham. This place has the best truly espresso/coffee forward drinks in the triangle. You can tell the quality of the drink and beans Omie's is high quality as soon as you taste it. I absolutely loved their fun and creative seasonal menu. I ordered the pumpkin pie brown butter latte, and it was so tasty. Normally, I have to ask coffee shops to reduce the sugar, but this drink was perfectly balanced. In addition, Omie's sells baked goods to complement your drink. There was a selection of tasty treats to pick from. One of my friends got a HUGE cookie, which looked absolutely delicious. As a fair heads up, parking and inside seating areas are limited. However, Omie's has done the most to maximize the space to make it a cozy place to sit. Pro tip- there is a little more seating to the left of the bathrooms, and there are several comfy spots interspersed throughout. Come for the good coffee, good vibes, and lovely service staff. I wanted to love my experience at Omie's because I've heard great things and their seasonal menu sounds amazing! I ordered an iced peppermint latte and it tasted like peppermint milk, you can tell from the color it just wasn't made correctly, kind of like they forget to put the shots in it. I didn't have time to ask for a remake as I was rushing somewhere. Maybe they were off today because I've always heard great things but I ended up having to throw away a seven dollar coffee and it truly hurt my heart. As a vegan living in Durham, there aren't a ton of places which offer TRUE vegan pastries, so I was excited when I heard this place offered that. I was also excited by the interesting seasonal coffee concoctions that were offered online. For one, the coffee shop is in an interesting, semi-cramped space, which is a problem mostly because of the line. It was a decently long line when we came on a saturday morning. That in and of itself is not a problem, but unfortunately with the way that the room is set up, the line ends up kind of between/ right in front of a good amount of seating. For those sitting in those seats / bench, I felt kind of awkward standing too close to them (and towering over them), and some of the seats were so completely blocked by the line that I think it would have been nearly impossible to even sit in them (the person sitting them woudl always have to be moving their legs in order to accommodate the moving line). The same thing happens when you are waiting for your drink afterwards as well. Anyway. Awkward, but not the end of the world. Cute decor. The main problem is the inconsistent labeling on their drinks, and then just a really uncomfortable interaction which occurred because of that. I knew they had vegan pastries coming in, and so I expected that at least some of their specialty drinks would be vegan. Which they both were and weren't. Basically, a number of the specialty drinks were labeled as "contains dairy" or essentially being unable to make the drinks without dairy, which is fine. Unfortunately, a lot of the rest (which could be made without dairy) were sweetened with honey, which ruled out those as well. So in the end, I only had like two drinks to choose from, which was a bummer, but okay (not uncommon for a vegan). So I ordered a peanut-butter something drink, discussed it with the barista, said I wanted oat milk, paid for it, and then was walking away when the other barista said, "Oh wait, the peanut-butter syrup has dairy in it, is that okay?" Which. I was so caught off-guard--why wasn't this drink labeled the way that the rest of the specialty drinks with dairy were? I didn't even think to double check (which I would at many coffee shops) because they offered explicitly vegan pastries and had other drinks clearly labeled when they contained dairy. "Um no." I said. "That's actually not okay." So then we just like stared at each other for a bit. Anyway, at this point, I was just feeling so awful. I hate being put on the spot, and so I'd taken care to look at the drinks in advance so I was ready when I got to the counter and now everyone in the long line is waiting on me to order my drink. If I hadn't already paid for a drink, I honestly would have just left. But anyway, at this point I HAVE to get something, but the only specialty drink which I could have at this point wasn't one I wanted, and the room is full of people waiting to order. If I couldn't have the specialty drink, I just wanted a coffee, but that's like half of the price of the specialty drink, and the baristas weren't offering to refund the drink or anything, they were just staring at me (as if I'm supposed to solve this situation), so finally I asked if I could have a latte but with an extra shot. Anyway, they say yes, and then hold out their hand for my credit card??? At which point I'm like SO confused. Are they expecting me to now pay for a second drink? When the first drink I ordered wasn't clearly labeled with all of the allergens/ingredients and they didn't tell me until after I'd already paid? So I just stared back at them, confused and finally like, "Um, well, I already paid for the other drink, which I can't have." At which people she PAUSED. And then finally was like, "Oh, right. Sure." I was so so disappointed, confused, and frustrated. I'd come out specifically to this coffee shop because they had interesting vegan options, only to find out that they DIDN'T, but only after paying, and then eventually getting a drink I didn't even want (and probably still paying too much for it). And the baristas apologized, but they didn't offer to refund my drink, they didn't offer to give me a discount, they didn't do anything other than apologize and then stare at me. Anyway. I know this doesn't seem like a big deal, but it honestly felt so humiliating for me, and the way that they reacted (or didn't react) just made me feel like it was MY fault, and like I was being inconvenient. Like, I'm not trying to be difficult, I was trying to do the opposite by looking up drinks in advance (i know being vegan is inconvenient). It was such a bad, bad interaction, and I feel like it would have been entirely preventable with better labeling (and better barista training on what to do if you make a mistake on a drink). I never even tried any of the vegan pastries, and at this point I probably never will. I can't comment on how the coffee tasted because I was in such a bad mood I didn't enjoy it. read more

Very cute local coffee shop. I ordered the shandy which is cold brew with lemonade and blueberry flavor and it did not disappoint, very crisp and refreshing taste, just perfect for summer! Staff was very friendly and efficient with both taking orders and making drinks. Limited seating inside, however, and no comfortable space for a laptop so I probably wouldn't come here to study or work. read more

Here's a hidden little gem in North/East Durham. Wasn't sure this place existed until it populated on my Apple Maps. I was glad to see a coffee shop in this part of town. We came here and glad we did, it's really well decorated inside and makes you feel cozy. It's small with not a ton of inside seating but there is some. Seems like more customers were taking their drinks to go. The girl working here was sweet and accommodating. The Fall Menu looked really good, after getting the drinks I'd say the drinks need more pronounced flavor. Got the Brown Butter Pumpkin Pie Latte which has espresso. I couldn't taste any specific flavor, not even the espresso let alone the sugar. That's why I'm giving this place four stars and not five. Would I come back, absolutely. I'll probably try a fresh drip coffee next time. read more

3.5 rounding up! I didn't have the best luck with my coffee stops on this visit to the triangle. I stopped in at Omie's on my way home, and it was kind of a mixed bag. The service was quite friendly, and I really liked the barista. The interior is interesting, but not a place you would really stop and hang out. I was really impressed with their creative seasonal menu. I immediately wanted to try the cherry cobbler latte. It was supposed to be a single origin espresso, cherry pie syrup, and a cherry on top for the iced variety. The to-go cups were cute and had a rounded bottom I'd never seen before. You could definitely taste the quality of the espresso... but other than that there really wasn't much flavor. I really wanted to taste the cherry flavor (which is also a flavor profile in this espresso) but I really couldn't detect it. It also did not have the cherry on top that it advertised. Not the end of the world, but it really would've been nice for the presentation, and I was kind of disappointed since it did advertise that it would be on there. Their specials menu was really creative and I'd love to try more, I'm hoping this was a fluke! read more

This coffee saved me on my long road trip from DC to Charlotte! It's in a perfect location right off the highway so I didn't have to add more than a few minutes to my trip. The staff was friendly and the cafe was clean as well as the bathroom! There's several seats to sit at if you wanted to work, study, or get school work done. The lighting was great and I loved all the plants around the cafe. I bought the vanilla iced latte which was tasty. The only negative part is there isn't enough parking spaces. read more

Off the beaten path in Durham coffee shop. I got their signature coffee which uses burnt honey, lavender, and espresso. A great combination I must say and great for a cold day. They also have some pastries and tea options as well. I tried one of the teas and almost tasted like a liquid jolly rancher. Overall great coffee and tea selection. Inside has 3 different areas. 1 area with seating and where you order, 1 section with just a couple seats, and the last area has a kids area and the Roastery space. The staff was kind and helpful in picking a drink. Prices are also fair. Overall, I definitely liked this place. Parking is very limited and something to think about as to whether you get your drink to go or have it there. Will definitely be back next time in Durham to try some of their seasonal drinks. read more

Service was great as well! 4/5 stars simply due to the size of the shop- it can get very crowded very easily and there aren't that many comfy seating options. I came on a Sunday morning fairly early, so I was able to enjoy some quieter time before it filled up. Most of the seats are hard benches or stools, and I was able to find a padded chair to sit in. It's always tricky reviewing a brand new business, especially when they are doing a soft opening with a limited menu. We are familiar with their coffees from their previous incarnation as Caballo Rojo Coffee. We stopped in around lunchtime literally on the first day of their soft opening and enjoyed a mocha and a cold brew to go. They are around the corner from King's Red & White grocery store in a converted space. The interior is sectioned off into three areas, an entrance area with bar seating, the coffee counter area with some tables, and a separate space with a roaster partitioned off from a little area with a sofa and kids' play area. As far as we know, this is the only coffee shop in this part of Durham. They had a few baked goods but will be adding more as they find their groove. This coffee shop is super cute!! I will start with the couple of cons: the parking situation is a little confusing and pretty limited. The seating inside is cute but also quite limited. There's not enough seating for groups, if you're like me and always drag a bunch of people with you to study or do work together. That said, it's the perfect place to grab coffee with a friend or two or to just get some alone time. They have plenty of outlets and the bathroom looked clean. Their coffee feels reasonably priced and the barista was super friendly and ready to give help and recommendations. I got the brown cow, but I definitely want to try their blueberry drink and signature Mabel next. The cold brew is very smooth so I enjoyed my coffee! I also appreciate that they don't blast music and it's usually not crazy busy in the afternoons so it wasn't too loud or anything. The vibes are super positive and welcoming. Overall, lovely experience to get some solid coffee and have some peace to get a few tasks done on my laptop. read more

Stopped here for some coffee with a friend. The vanilla latte was quite good and the place itself is really cute. It would have been nice to have more comfortable seating but I did love the collection of mixed styles around the room. Service was superb - the barista was so nice. I wish they had an option for a simple drip coffee. It was weird coming to a coffee shop and not having that as an option. I'm so sad to be writing this review. I loved coming here and it became my go to for a solid amount of time. I don't really know why but there was a strange vibe when I walked in and ordered. I ordered a matcha and was served literally a cup of oat milk with a sprinkle of matcha mixed in. It seemed pretty intentional but regardless, the drink was horrible and a huge waste. I really enjoy visiting Omie's because it is in my neighborhood. My favorite part are the seasonal drinks and the pastries. My favorite seasonal drink was the Sweetheart latte and I am excited to see what the fall drinks will be! Having worked in North Durham for years, I have lamented the absence of local coffee houses north of I85. Omie's not only fills that gap, but does so with a cute space, kind service, and great coffee. I wouldn't have known about the place had it not been for a friend's suggestion. The storefront is unassuming and the parking is minimal -- if it's busy, they state that you can park at the Red and White Supermarket next door, which is nice. The inside is an adorable albeit somewhat cobbled-together mix of plants, barstools, and seating. One of the three rooms has toys for folks who bring young kids. It's not huge, but definitely has enough seating for a busy afternoon. It was nearly empty on the morning I went in, so there was no wait. The person at the counter was knowledgeable and kind. I got their signature latte (burnt honey and lavender) and a pastry from their case -- supplied by Strong Arm Bakery, which I had never heard of but now I need to visit, because the chocolate croissant was great! The latte was also really lovely -- sweet but not cloyingly so, and the lavender shone really nicely. I am so happy to see a strong local coffee place in this area. This is a very cute shop! It is pink with very cute and nicely arranged furniture. The staff was also very courteous as well. I ordered a seasonal blueberry latte. I would just give it one less star because the blueberry and the latte was not that prominent. It tasted more like a honey latte. Also, they potentially could add more to the presentation of the latte by making, perhaps blue foam or something interesting, rather than it looking like every other normal latte.
