First time here, and I was so enamored with the beauty of the entire area that I'm already aching to return. There's a small parking lot along highway 1, but it gets crowded so if you're visiting on a weekend, good luck! The climb down to Sharktooth Beach is a bit steep, but not too bad as there's a bit to grab onto with your hands and feet in that narrow rocky pathway. Once you get down there, it's amazing! Multiple caves can be found, flowing with water the day I visited. Rock formations all around, creating a picturesque setting. A beautiful shoreline with crashing waves, the sounds of the sea spellbinding. The enclosed beach area surrounded by tall cliffs and offering soft powdery sand, you'll never want to leave. Oh yes, of course the giant "shark fin" too, adding to the uniqueness of this place. I recommend going on a weekday when it's not congested and you can more fully appreciate the scenery and connect with nature. But it's really something special anyday.

604, 47/2023 Good bye to youuuu ( ToT) SFC has been discovered on the social media and is now crowded with posers. There's even graffiti now and mostly filled with photo mongers and partiers. Since many seem to leave trash behind, it seems to be buggy. Prior to this nuisance, it used to be a desolate natural wonder. Only a few ventured down to the beach due to a very steep path, so when you got down, there were a handful of people having their solitude with the Rock and the crashing Pacific. Gone are those days. It's great that more peeps are enjoying this cove but I didn't come to see photo attention mongers and graffiti here. I was disappointed on arrival with TOO MANY people and tainted scenery. Perhaps this place will be out of favor on social media when I visit next.

This stop was more worth it than I expected. The fin is HUGE! I don't know why I assumed it would be small and underwhelming. It's a nice little beach area but clearly a favorite spot for parties/bonfires, so watch your feet if you're walking barefoot.

Very very beautiful beach for sunrise and sunset little hard to get down to so be warned but oh so worth it nice place to swim and connects to another beach!! Sad to see so much liter from everyone after parties there or events wish it had more trash cans or people took trash with them

Tip: wear shoes! There's a short slightly steep hike down to the cove. Beautiful place with hiking trails and views of the Pacific. Free parking on the side of the road with close easy access to the trail.

A great place for photography by the bay! It's about an 18-minute drive from Santa Cruz! This beach is not many people know about it, but the scenery is absolutely beautiful! There are two beaches in total, and you can visit both or choose one. The main challenge is parking. If you go to the first beach, you'll need to walk about 10 minutes along an abandoned railway to reach the next beach! As shown in the picture. The railway is also incredibly scenic, and I took a series of photos there. The address is: Shark Fin Cove, Davenport, CA 95017. The beach is stunning during sunset, and the golden hour is perfect for photography. Unfortunately, I encountered cloudy weather and could only take pictures at the second beach. So, it's best for you and your friends to check the weather before going. The beach is called "Shark Fin Cove," which is quite interesting. It looks like a vertical shark fin in the middle, very distinctive!

Man, I've probably driven past this spot at least a hundred times over the years and never decided to stop. I went on a Tuesday afternoon coming home from a camping trip, as I wanted to hit up something new to me. The good is on a Tuesday, parking was easy to find on that side of the road. You can park on the other side, but now you'll be sprinting across the street versus cars going 50 mph plus. I don't recommend it for everyone. Lol So, just a few miles north of Santa Cruz on highway 1 there's a very small town of Davenport. One of its beaches is this tiny secluded cove. But it is not just your ordinary cove. First it is a good 60 feet plus down from the road. The sheer cliffsides surround it like a Greek amphitheater. The steps going up or down are steeper than the norm. Can't be joint challenged here or have a fear of heights. Then there are these massive rock formations that add to the spectacle of the place. The first is this monster flat slab of rock that juts from the sand to the ocean. Not sure if this gets covered on higher tides. But the day I went, people were playing and lying on this smooth rock surface, literally as the waves were crashing just feet away. Then there's this large rock probably 20-30 feet tall that has a huge tunnel bored out of it. Doesn't look that natural to me as there were carving marks on the rock. But don't know for sure. But it does look pretty damn cool, as you can see waves crashing on the other side of it from the sand on the other side. And the noises it makes is just intense, as the sounds of the ocean and its crashing waves are amplified through this tunnel. Plus anyone who comes here takes pics either inside or around it. You'll probably have to take turns doing so, welcome to the social media years, yadadada. Just hope you don't get behind one of those wannabe Insta-models towing their photographer bf. If so good luck on getting a chance to snap a pic unobstructed. And the main attraction is this other massive rock formation right in the middle of the water not that far from the beach itself. This thing is probably 40-50 feet and is in an uncanny yet undeniable shape of a shark's fin. I was very amused of this spectacle, that I would most likely come back to share with others...just as long as it is a thinner weekday crowd. I'm sure this place is mobbed on weekends. I haven't scanned any of the other reviews, but I'm sure the horror experiences are there.

The beach is about 15 minutes from Santa Cruz on Davenport town. I tried to follow this address and it lead me to farther down which was wrong location. This beach in across from a Davenport town which had couple small shop across from it. There is parking next to the beach. The road getting down to the beach is not that difficult but do not recommend those who had disability issues. Going up back is much easier than going down. You can't miss this beach once you see a rock forming like a shark fin. There are another rock which looks like a hole/cave that you will see the water waves hit through it. You will see people bonfire at night and enjoying their sun tan in the afternoon. Surrounding this beach, you will see tons of hiking trail and railroad track. This beach connects to several other beach on highway 1. It is beautiful beach with the unique rock formations on the water.

Really pretty beach located just off of Highway 1 near Davenport. The beach is pretty small but it's usually not too packed. Careful walking around, can be quite a bit of garbage and things you don't want to step barefoot on. Other than that though beautiful little beach worth stopping by during your travels!

This place gives me Studio Ghibli vibes, in particular Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. This spot is about a 10 minute drive from Santa Cruz along a very scenic highway 1. Parking is free and on the side towards the ocean. It has gorgeous coastal views and a long pathway that hugs the edge for you to stroll along. This place is perfect for a bit of day camping, relaxing, picture taking, and just for enjoying the coast/the flowers in bloom.

This is a nice little spot. In my personal opinion, I think it's a cute little stretch of the ocean. There's also some old railroad tracks in the sand near when you walk from the parking lot. Idk if they're running anymore, doesn't look like it (but keep a look out lol), but you can get a cute pic near the tracks with the surrounding sand. It's pretty picturesque in itself. Walking along the cliffs with the ocean on one side and the weeds / ice plants on the other side is also very nice. I'll stop to take a few pics of the ocean, of the sun glittering across the water, and of course of the "shark fin" shaped rock. All very cute and def instagram worthy to me. It's just a nice little getaway outside. Fresh air. Beautiful view. What's not to love? Plus the trail by the cliffs usually isn't very busy since most people want to visit the beach down below. I prefer walking the cliffs myself. If you plan on going to the beach, def bring some good trekking shoes. If you've just got a pair of flip flops, def recommend just walking along the trail and not going down to the beach. The trek down to the beach is kinda treacherous, so only do it if you have good sturdy shoes on. Not a trek down for kids really, and def not stroller friendly. The beach is also not the nicest in my opinion because people just leave their garbage down there instead of trekking it back on the way up (please clean up after yourself if you do go down though!!). Overall, I really just love coming to this spot for a nice walk by the cliffs overlooking the ocean. If you feel like wine afterwards, there's also a Beauregard Vineyards right nearby. While their wine isn't my personal favorite, it's a lovely spot to sit with some snacks surrounded by the redwood forest. Great little spot to chill after your walk if you feel like it.

This was one of the highlights to my Santa Cruz trip recently. Didn't know this existed until I was looking for hiking trails. I defintely wanted to go to the beach but wanted to go somehwere new in Santa Cruz beaides the same old places. I found this beach & immediately knew I had to go. It's not too far away from the main town of Santa Cruz and is a beautiful drive along the coast. The parking can be a bit limited but the views are worth a spot. The climb down is a little steep so you need to be careful but once you're at the beach make sure you have a camera handy to take pictures because this is defintely worth every shot. The ocean is so turquoise, the weather is perfect, and the beach is not packed which is my favorite kind of beach. It's a hidden little spot with rhe most genuine views that will make you want to travel more

What a scenic stop! On a Friday at lunch time, there was plenty of parking (maybe a long make shit dirt lot for 25+ cars off the highway, and there were only 3 cars there including ours). It's a short walk from the parking area to where you walk down for the beach. The so-called path is dry dusty dirt with some rocks, that goes down to the beach. We were able to get down fairly easily with our ten year old. Once down there, you get a nice view of a rock that really does look like a fin. The downside is the beach is not really one too sit on for too long and play in the sand - there are flies all over. But the plus is there isn't a ton of people hanging out here. Some of the rock walls have been graffitied, and there is some trash (we took what we found) and some bond fire remnants. But overall, thus was worth the stop for some lovely pictures and to see what Mother Nature has to offer.

OMFG...I finally made it to the swing at the Davenport Beach?! :D…read more I did not read any reviews about this spot before coming here. I just bookmarked for a couple of years, and I finally visited it. My boyfriend and I along with his doggie were having a day out in Santa Cruz. I told him that we should visit this place so that we can swing on the beach. He was down for it, but once we found the way to get down to it--he said, "No way, I'm doing that." I *did* not let that stop me from going down there to experience the swing though. My boyfriend and his doggie stayed at the top of the cliff and watched me climbed down to the beach. Yes, it was pretty treacherous. Thank goodness there was a rope with knots to hold onto. Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to do it successfully without that lifesaver rope. Thank you so much to whoever secured that rope there! Also, I do want to point out I did this in a dress and flipflops?! Crazy right.. Then again.. I'm crazy, I do admit it. ;) There were a four gals and guys down there chilling. I asked them if there was another way to get in and out of here, but they confirm that that was the only way in and out. I got to swing on the swing and took some videos. The swing looked cool from the photos that I seen, but it doesn't swing well straight. It does swing sideways. Lol... It took me about 7 minutes to go down and about 4 minutes to climb back up. I know this because my boyfriend recorded me. Lol... I'm very grateful that I was determined to do this despite the company that I had didn't want to do it. Years ago I let someone that I was with who didn't want to do it influence me to also not do it when we visitied Alamere Falls so I won't let that happen anymore. If there is something I want to do, it's okay to do it alone when other people don't want to do it. That's on self-love, baby! There is two parking areas. We initially parked in the one right across the post office, but then we follow this group to the other one right next to it because it was closer. We walked across the railroad tracks and found the opening to the climb to the beach. I was sore for a few days afterwards in my legs from climbing the side of the cliff, but oh gosh... It was so worth it!

This is not a lying around type of beach. It is very raw and very windy for some reason. It's all worth it once you lay eyes on the beautiful sandy shore, And the moment you enter and step onto the sand, there's a small pond to your right with ducks! What a pleasant surprise to be found at the beach :D On a Sunday afternoon, there were just a handful of visitors, couples and families stretched out on their mats or little tents, enjoying the sunshine and sound of the waves. Surfers doing their thing on the water. A few dogs running free. Surfboards sitting inside a small cave-like tunnel, a cool formation along the mudstone cliffs, that you can actually go inside. A piece of advice, on a windy day, be prepared for sand to blow onto your belongings, especially if you have food or drinks, you may want to have your back to the wind to prevent the sand from ruining a good meal while picnicking. But it's easy to shake off your blankets and tents and such, so don't be afraid to get a little dirty as you lie in the sun and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. One thing I did not like is that there is no cell service here (T-Mobile). But other than that, I loved everything about this place. There's no bathrooms, jellyfish are abundant on the shore and wash up and back with the waves...with violent riptides even near the shore. Out on the rocks people are able to fish for perch, but the whole area is very windy and when lying down you'll be inundated with sand. The parking area is the second one past Laguna when driving north on PCH. It's far easier to navigate the steep cliff going down in shoes. Many of us were barefoot or in sandals and it really slows you down. As such, you're not going to easily get large objects like cool chests down to the beach. You'll not likely want to make multiple trips to the car either. The trash is still a concern as young people leave cans and bottles everywhere. Like some Yelpers have posted, I didn't experience any nudity, nor did anyone ask me to have sex with them, however, I suspect this area is not patrolled often because of it's limited access. I saw people drinking beer without impunity and so it's not hard to imagine, given this beach also appears in nudist beach listings in search results. In my experience, it was younger adults in groups, everyone was dressed. Two people were fishing. There's an arch in the cliffs which leads to another beach to the left, and then rock formations you can carefully walk out on to the right and fish from. It appears high tide covers these areas, so keep that in mind. There were at least 60 people on the beach, so I don't understand the posts about being quiet and secluded, either. This property used to be owned by a dairy company and was ceded to the state, which explains it not having a long public history and the abandoned railroad tracks paralleling PCH. Nobody was surfing or out in the water and that's good, because the riptides are especially fierce and very close to shore. If there's no jellyfish you can walk in the surf washing up but that's about it. I wouldn't recommend going into the water and wouldn't stay on the other side of the arch on the beach when the tide is rising. I also noticed there's no cellular reception, either.

If you can't find it, the coordinates are (36.986927, -122.156281). From there to the beach, cross the road, go over the railroad track, past the field of poison ivy and down the sandy, rocky ledge. Needless to say, this path is not for the handicapped. The waves are rough and the wind strong; swimming is not advised. But the sand is warm and untouched. Walking further along, there's a lagoon of waste water surrounded by seagulls (and seagull poop!) Along the cliffs at the edge of this small stretch of peaceful and picturesque, tide pools with sea anemones and sea snails can be seen at low tide. This is your chance to go off the beaten track and take the road less traveled. At least until this too becomes popular.

The tide pools are fantastic, and there's so much marine life to find -- I even saw my first octopus here, which was incredibly exciting. The beach is full of different little areas to wander, and it's a great spot if you enjoy exploring and looking for critters. That said, the access is a real problem. The trail down is very steep and not elderly-friendly at all. The main path has collapsed toward the end, and while there's an alternative route, it's not well set in or particularly safe. The trail is also very overgrown, which makes the descent even more difficult. The park service really needs to address the access issues, because the beach itself deserves better infrastructure.

And what is even better, we can visit a marine conservation area. While we were visiting a friend who lives in said city, he gave us a site seeing tour of a few of his favorite public beaches that were actually somewhat secluded. Davenport is a nearby town outside of Santa Cruz, where you will find some nice accessible beaches, like Greyhound Rock. It doesn't look like a Greyhound to me, but it is grey. It almost seems like a private beach, because there are less tourists who are aware of this location. There is plenty of parking in the lot with restrooms nearby. It is government protected and mostly the locals seem to make use of the area, because it is a bit out of the way from the more touristy places of Santa Cruz. We spent some relaxing and leisurely time gazing from the look outs and listening to the crashing waves of the ocean. I never get tired of the scenic views, and contemplating and appreciating what Mother Earth has created. I just wish that all human beings were aware of how important protecting this planet is for our survival....
