We went with some friends recently to check out the beach and I was surprised at how nice it was. The beach is not huge, but it's a good sandy area and the water is pretty shallow for quite a ways, so it's great for kids and the water was quite warm. The bathrooms were clean and conveniently located for the beach. The parking area is a little small, not sure what you'd do if it was really busy. We saw people in kayaks out on the lake and fishing is allowed. There were employees riding around in a golf cart keeping an eye on things but there is no lifeguard at the beach. We don't live super close to this park but when we visit our friends we will definitely be back.

So needed less to say, that other place "Great Lakes guides service" sucks... Wouldn't give them the time of day even if they paid us. Anyway, Captain art was not only lay back and super helpful, but he went above and beyond and took us out on a VERY VERY short notice. His boat is really nice and SUPER clean and also quick! We managed to catch 4 nice sized salmon weighing about 25lbs of edible meat! :-) yum! I want to thank captain art for being so cool and helpful and such a good person over all. We caught 4 HUGE salmon and based off the radio chatter, we were the only boat who caught anything that afternoon. He went above and beyond in all respects getting 9 rods setup with a variety of strategies to give us the best chance, he had sun screen for us silly people who forgot it, and a great attitude, very positive, friendly, and knowledgeable. If you are heading out for a trip in the Muskegon area you should look no further. Captain Art will exceed all expectations. Full story: if you really want to understand how awesome Captain Art is, keep reading. I had scheduled a trip for my fiancée's birthday as the surprise main event. I planned the hotel and restaurant around the trip in Muskegon. I had a reservation with Great Lakes Guide Service. They originally had us on Muskegon River, which I found out later was way too early in the year for river fishing... anyway, they were going to call a few days before the trip to confirm. 2 days before the trip, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called them back. They didn't answer, so I left a message. I got an email later saying that the river trip wasn't going to work and asked if we would consider a lake trip. I said sure if we could confirm cost and where we would meet for that trip. I never heard back. So I emailed again, no response. And a third time the day before our scheduled trip (we had already driven 3 hrs for the fishing trip) with still no response. I called 3 times that day and never got an answer. At this point fearing my surprise trip would fall on its face, I called Captain Art. He answered IMMEDIATELY and heard the situation Great Lakes Guide Service had got me into. The day before we wanted to go out Captain Art said he would take us personally in the afternoon. Relief!!! He even left his granddaughter's birthday early to take us out. Unbelievable commitment, customer service, and flexibility. Great Lakes Guide Service also didn't mention to bring a cooler, so Captain Art took his time to fillet the salmon small enough we could take them in Styrofoam ones. He even taught us how to store them. 4 HUGE fish, a wonderful afternoon on a beautiful boat, the only boat catching fish, Captain Art will find you fish . Best charter in the area, hands down.

This summer we have again met new couples who have wondered about Freedom Boat Club. Once we go for…read morea ride we explain the Club in detail and once they get back home they decide to become members. They hear our excitement and see the friendly staff. They hop on a clean boat - from the windshield to the motor cowling, to the boat exterior and the clean floor and seats, we explore the Lake(s) we are on and it makes perfrect cense to them to become part of FBC. Recenty our friends heard our FBC story on our boat outing togather and who's future son-in-law who heard about FBC from their boat outing with us. To him it made cense and he became a new member in St.Petersberg, FL. Yesterday we took friends out to tour Spring Lake, MI. They heard the same explaination, felt our excitment and could see how easy FBC makes boating and luv'd it. On our return to the docks we were met by staff who protrayed excellent customer service. The franchise owner (friend of ours) was giving new members their 4 hrs of training. He excuized himself from that couple to shake hands with the 4 of us, , and did that impress our friends ! ! ! ! The people of Manitowoc are fortunate to have many fine parks in the city. Silver Creek Park is no…read moreexception. There is a very nice disc golf course that meanders through the woods. The lighthouse hole is the hole from hell. If you overshoot the net, your frisbee could easily end up in the lake. I have fond memories of this park from when I was a kid. We used to go to the south end of the park and shoot our 22 rifles. But this is a different age, don't try to do that these days. Silver Creek has the best beaches in Manitowoc. It has areas that are wild enough to do some serious birding. I find it a bit amusing that people have stopped playing disc golf. They are now obsessed with Pokemon Go, so the park is very quiet these days. But today I picked up a bag of trash. Apparently "Swinus Americanus" (my name for litter bugs) are still present there. Red Bull cans, and broken bottles on the beach. It always mystifies me why "people" trash out places of beauty; and what kind of knuckledragger breaks glass on a beach? All that aside, this is a premier park. It is a wonderful place to spend a few peaceful hours. It is surprisingly unused, or, at least, underused. Take a picnic, lay out on the beach and, if you're brave enough, swim in the lake (brrr!). Did I mention that I saw a hooded merganser today where Silver Creek meets Lake Michigan...nice.
