To be honest, it is a little pricey given the amount of food you are given. One of the sandwiches was smaller in size than the other and we didn't get much fries. We got the sandwiches in mild and lite mild and they still had great flavour. Probably wouldn't travel out of the way for it but if you're in the area would recommend trying. read more

Their customers double-parking everywhere on the weekends even though there is a Green P behind the business. The super overpriced menu does not serve the community around it either... The food was great. I eat Dave's down in Texas so the fact that I can take my family here too is a huge plus. However, the staff was not a plus. I asked for extra pickles after I ordered and was told, "we're out of pickles" so I said ok no big deal. I then received my food and it was wrong. When I told the cashier I ordered a #4 she got an attitude and told me, "you ordered a #1 that's what was repeated back to you". When I told her no it wasn't she got an attitude and told me, "well that's what we made you". When I asked for the slaw and that came on the sandwich she just looked at me and said no. For anyone who is a lover of fried chicken (in a sandwich or otherwise) Toronto is a good city to be. Lucky for us, Dave's Hot Chicken has found its way here and it should easily find its way on any list going forward of top fried chicken spots in the city. The most difficult choice was choosing what option to go with: a combo with two tends, two sandwiches or one of each and how spicy do you want this to be. This was a really tough choice since I secretly wanted two sandwiches, but I opted for one tender and one sandwich and upped the ante on my fries to make them cheesy fried because everything tastes better with melted cheese. The sandwich and the tender were the show stealers. Perfectly tender with the right amount of tenderness and crispness on the outside, you'll savour every bite and want some more. The meat to bun ratio was spot on, the signature sauce was delicious and the kale slaw gave it an extra something something (and made me feel healthy). The chicken had a nice spice to it and really was cooked just right. The only constructive point on my end were the fries; maybe I got a "not so perfect" batch but mine were a little soggy. I went in out of curiosity for their chicken. Then, I decided for the milkshake instead since the fries looked like something from a cheap plastic bag from your local big box store and the chicken did seem that great. I can ensure you I doubt I will ever find worst thing. I was expecting a REAL milkshake, but they just poured something disgusting from a machine that tasted like the worst type of warm melted ice cream. Let me preface by saying I rarely go to fast food chain restaurants. The food quality is generally overshadowed by the brand experience. However having lived in the same neighborhood that Dave's has come to roost for 34 years, I decided to give it a try because I like chicken. And I like it hot. Jerk,tandoori(no, tandoori is not hot...), tequila roasted with habaneros; I love them all. I give the Bitove team credit for creating "buzz" with influencers and media through a well crafted PR campaign and featuring Dave's Hot Chicken prominently in an article about hot chicken in The Toronto Star which by an amazing coincidence is owned by the Bitove family. After a soft launch with the aforementioned  influencers , the resto opened for business with line ups that went up Sorauren a good thousand feet if not more. A line up that was not safely distanced from each other and preventing anyone else from using the sidewalk. I won't go into what it looked like inside. No way was I going to risk Covid for chicken.Time  passed and the line up during the day disappeared so it was time to give it a try. And what of the chicken? I bought two plain tenders because my wife has no tolerance for hot food. I passed on the prefab crinkle cut fries and kaleslaw.They came in a non recyclable container container with two slices of plain white bread , some pickle slices and what looked like thousand island dressing in little tubs. The tenders were fine. There was no flavour that I could taste but they were cooked properly. Seeing as they are known for HOT chicken I decided to come back and try a it with a burn. I chose a mild tender and a hot one. If you look at the heat levels there is also extra mild, extra hot, and "reaper". The mild had a light burn but was too hot for my wife, the hot was as I like things these days. The heat did did not add extra flavour that I could taste. The tenders were 5.99 . They were not especially large. This is not value for money. This is "an experience". This is not a neighborhood experience. The neighborhood already has two(!) of the chain from Louisiana named after a cartoon character as well as a decent independant place specializing in chicken tenders. The clientele for Dave's is coming in droves from elsewhere because of "the buzz". The chicken is OK. Not bad, not great. It is way overpriced. But now I can say I have had the Dave's Hot Chicken experience. read more

I have eaten here twice and have not been disappointed. The chicken was large and well cooked, very spicy love the seasoned fries and pickles. Unfortunately good food costs money so you will pay alittle more for lunch but I think it's worth it. Ever since my wife and I found out that Dave's hot chicken was coming to Toronto we couldn't wait to try it again after enjoying it on our trip in LA a couple years ago. But we were quite disappointed when we got our food. The staff there were quite friendly and did the best they can especially with all the covid restrictions that were in place, but I'm not sure if it's just the location but the food was not to par of what we've had at their LA location. I just went to the location in midtown Toronto - 15 minutes before closing and was told quote on quote "that I would have to wait a very long time to receive my meal". I really like spicy food so I was kinda into it, I got the reaper and the extra hot. The chicken comes on bread with fries on the side and a stack of pickles. The reaper was too hot to be enjoyable. Not because it was too spicy but because they had obviously stripped most of the flavor out to make the spice come through more. Location: Does Dave know they are located ACROSS the street from a food bank? I live right near there, so the first day they opened was ironic. Yes, massive lineup for $20 pieces of chicken at the SAME time that there was a lineup on the other side of the street of people who need to get handouts from the food bank!! Did the socialite/owner think about that? As other people stated, I hate their non-recyclable packaging. When walking to Dave's, it was littered all over the street. Maybe there is something "green" about the packaging I am not aware of it, but it just feels like black styrofoam- not environmentally friendly what soever. When I ordered online, they automatically added a 13% tip, which I didn't realize. That was really annoying as I had a bunch of change and wanted to tip with cash. We were excited to finally try Dave's hot Chicken. Unfortunately after getting our order ready online at checkout it said " no longer taking orders". We found out later from the counter attendee that they " turn it off " when it's to busy. We decided we would call to see if we could place an order via phone she said not right now you can come in line. I asked how long she said 30 minutes MAX. When we got there the line from the back to when we could order was 1hr20minutes. We ordered 4 combo 3 (hot) and 2 side tenders (one hot one extra hot). When we got the food and tried it it was like eating a mouth full of table salt. The hot chicken tenders and sliders were not NOT hot at all. If the scale was 1-pacific ocean they passed the ocean. So salty your lips are raw before you finish. Not hot what so ever not even a drop of hot. The "extra hot tender" was pretty "hot" but the flavor and heat was inconsistent. The instagram pictures make the portions worth the cost, but the bun and "slice of wonder bread" screams american food chain. I am only considering the 3 star based on the quality of the chicken. It wasn't greasy and was evenly breaded. Honestly, the inconsistency of the food coming out of the kitchen screams lack of training or under staffed (forced to rush and dumping salt/not reading the order and not giving us hot chicken maybe even "no spice". When the hype runs out we'll likely try it again to see if the quality is better and more consistent. read more
