Buyer beware. Was optimistic after their attentive in-person quote process, but they overpromised and underdelivered. For starters, Dave's did not give notice before they arrived. After weeks of hearing nothing, I followed up for scheduling. Tather than arrange for a date, they showed up unannounced for the handy-man service portion of the job. The handyman service was fine - they performed most of the work, but not all of it (didn't nail down the shingles I asked them to do on the roof). The main part of the job was clearing a large area of yard waste debris. During the quote process, I clearly showed the sales rep the area that was to be cleared - a dumping zone of brush and leaves in a trench next to my house. After weeks of not getting on the schedule and again following up with them, they eventually sent a team to do the job. The team cleared a small pile of sticks and promptly left, while leaving the bulk of the yard waste untouched! Surely I (wrongly) assumed they would be returning!.... When following up with them to complete the job, I received no response - only an invoice weeks later asking for payment in full. I again asked that they return to complete the work, and they simply pointed me to the vaguely written quote and asserted that they had finished the job. If you choose to use Dave's (I would start with someone else fist), make sure the quote is precise so that when they inevitably underperform, you have something to point to. Overall, disappointed in every aspect and would not recommend. read more

They over charged me more than what i signed up for, flat fee turn to a bill over 1000 dollars, called the office, they said i'll get a call back, now almost a month, i continued to call continues to get voicemail, whats amazing is that today after transfering me they just shut the system off so now it's 3:30 i get a the office is closed message. their unwillingness to work and resolve issue is crazy. read more

DL did a very good job weeding and mulching. No complaints there. Unfortunately - and it's not the first time - the good plants (tulips, poppies, evergreen bushes, herbs) were "weeded" out too. Most of the plants that I pointed out specifically to KEEP were destroyed. I caught the poppy plant, lying in the pile of weeds, and they put it back in the ground and then mulched OVER it, so I had to dig it out. At that point the plant was dead. The evergreen bush I mentioned was cut down so short and so badly last year, it's barely surviving. Along with the branches my fairy lights were cut as well. My cable to outdoor lights was cut with the lawnmower today. I am not sure I want to continue their services. read more

I wish I could leave ZERO stars . . . I used Dave's for my elderly father in law's landscaping and snow removal for a few years. He did an adequate job and he charged (what I now know) to be a bit more than other landscapers (but that's not the issue.) This year, Dave decided to put in place a scheme whereby he charged me $75 a month (non recoverable) just to be "on-call" for when it snowed. Again, this money was not used as a "retainer" as such and applied to my bill, it was just a monthly fee to ensure he showed up when it snowed. I still had to pay any plowing fees on top of that. I promptly cancelled my service (as apparently did many other customers.) I asked around and not a single other plow guy does business like this. Again, this was done in the most underhanded, unscrupulous of ways (buried in a renewal contract for plowing.) Long story short, Dave's left an old man plowed in all winter while I scrambled to find a replacement (I used the shovler app) and his office (which evidently employs several people?) called me today looking to collect on my unpaid fees. That's the kind if business that Dave's runs. read more

If you are looking for reasonable prices, quality work, and good communication, Dave's Landscaping is NOT the company for you. Their motto is "we'll show when we show". There is no planning or communication whatsoever. They will show up out of the blue and do a portion of the project, throw their cigarette butts on your lawn, and leave with the project incomplete. My husband contacted Dave's Landscape about two months ago to get a quote for a small patio in my grandmother's backyard. This patio was so that my 103 year old great grandmother could easily be wheeled out and enjoy the nice weather before the winter came. Somebody came out to do measurements and told us they would get back to us in a few days via email with a quote. It has now been over two months and we haven't heard from anyone not a call or an email. Very unprofessional and rude if you ask me. read more

His people are very detail oriented and they do a wonderful job. They have cleared brush and installed a new lawn next to my driveway, cleared dead trees and shrubs from my yard, serviced my lawn, and replaced my front steps and walkway, all with the most careful attention to detail. Dave and his team have been doing our Christmas lights for the past couple of years. Last year, our first year, they came out and gave a great estimate and took care of everything from start to finish - putting them up, setting the timer, taking them down, etc. This year we made some modifications because we cut down a tree and they were able to adjust the estimate easily. They then found a really fun piece of lighting that I had asked them to see if they could dig up (a massive star for the top of one of our big trees) and they just installed everything again (right on the day that they said they would). It looks AMAZING and our kids just love it. I'll be using them for as long as we're in this house. read more

I hate to post a negative review and I did try to resolve this with them before posting this. I wish that they had at least been a little nicer or that I had felt a little more respected by their customer service. Came in $300 over for my fall clean up, which maybe I could have been okay with if there had been some communication about why there was such an overage (the original estimate was between 750-850, so it was a big overage) and then bungled the communication and billing for my spring clean up. No apology and a poor job at the clean up with big piles of winter debris still left. I called the office to get more information and the woman that called me back just proceeded to explain to me how I misunderstood their form, which I took for a request for a quote and she took for a renewal of service (I had never had a spring clean up with them, so not sure what I was renewing). We weren't happy with our currently landscaper and so called Dave's Landscape to give us a quote on mowing, weeding, and trimming. Dave came out on a Friday and said he'd have a quote within a few days. A week and a half later, I did finally get the quote. I asked for a few changes but never heard back from them. They are clearly not working hard for new business, which makes me wonder how well they treat existing customers, especially since you have to put down a significant deposit (50% of the season's estimated work) to get on their mowing schedule. This company is amazing! Dave himself came out to provide an estimate. He was kind and patient with me as I was moving slow due to a recent surgery. He listened to me explain what I wanted done with my yard and was able to offer great suggestions. The first crew redid my driveway, the second crew cleaned up the yard and the third crew removed some trees. Everyone was kind, polite and professional. My driveway and yard look fantastic. And Dave personally emailed me to follow up on the work to make sure I was happy. He remembered I was recovering from surgery and asked how I was feeling. We used them in 2013 to clean around our pool at a cost of $300. They did a really good job. Then, I contacted them this year and asked for the same job to be done. They said it would be about the same price or "a little less" as they were not going to do the whole yard, just the pool area. They billed us $550. There was never a mention of being billed for travel time and clerical work done by their employees. i.e. "the time it took and the paper work that was filled out". There was no dumping as we have a pile of yard waste onsite. When I asked why, they just sent another invoice for $450 which had 1 1/2 hours travel time for their crews. The crews "traveled" from Hudson to Hudson so when I asked about the travel time they argued with me about it. Obviously, they tried to over bill us hoping nobody would notice. They never once apologized for the over billing which leads me to believe they do this on a regular basis and that it was done on purpose. I would suggest using one of the 50 other landscaping companies in the area. read more

I am not usually one to post negative reviews, and wanted to handle this privately, not publicly with the appropriate person. However, I was denied that opportunity so I feel potential customers should know about the customer service I was given. We have recently moved to the area and I had a small job I needed estimated and found Dave's landscaping on yelp. I want to make clear that this is a review of the customer service I received through them, as the handyman sent out, David, was friendly, polite and professional. Without going into too much detail about our situation I was told that I would be given an estimate via email. I was not told that someone would go to my house for the estimate and because my husband was home and was not the primary contact this caused quite a bit of confusion. This lead to having work done that we were not ready to have done because of an insurance claim issue and not getting an estimate for the work that we needed in order to submit it to our insurance company. I understand that confusion happens however, when I received a call back from their administrator she was short, rude, blaming and talking over me. She really wanted to blame the situation on a miscommunication between my husband and I and that I had "misunderstood" her phone call yesterday. I asked to speak to someone else because I was getting quite upset and was told there was "no one else." I replied if that was the case I would create a Yelp review because I see that the owner replies there, and she told me "that's fine." Not how I would choose to do business and we will be going elsewhere for our future landscaping and plowing needs because I am truly disappointed by the way this was handled. read more

Based on services my parents received last year, I would steer clear of this company to provide snow removal services. They were incredibly inconsistent after storms on when they would arrive or arrive at all really. I also witnessed multiple sloppy jobs with parts of the driveway not touched or piles or snow in inopportune places. They marked the driveway at the beginning of the season with orange poles, why? I'm not really sure because they never stayed within the markings and disregarded the poles when plowing. They left huge ruts in the lawn and areas of sod just completely destroyed (they did seed the areas at the end of the season at no cost so I have to give them that). They also charged I believe $60 to mark the driveway. If they did as good a job performing the actual work as billing (and clearly they were very focused on billing) then there would be no problems. I would not recommend this business. Paying for premium snow removal services and receiving such horrible services was really frustrating. read more

This company is very unreliable. I have a contract with them to plow and shovel my walk, and they still have not come after the blizzard to do anything. I am disabled in a wheelchair, and my husband has had several heart attacks, and my daughter works at a large hospital in Boston and needs to be there, as she is an emergency responder. We originally sought out Dave's landscaping so we would not have to worry about doing any shoveling, and getting my daughter out of the driveway fast. I would not recommend Dave's landscaping to anyone looking for reliable plow company. I use Dave's for snow plowing of a multi-family rental property and they do a great job. Excellent communication by email before/during/after snowstorms. Had one issue with plowing that was addressed immediately when I called about it. They come in the spring to patch up any grass or fixtures damaged during the winter. I've lived in my house for 15 years in Marlborough. Every year we have our gutters cleaned. We usually pay around $75 dollars. It normally takes 15-20 minutes per side. We have 2 gutters approximately 20 feet long each side. We got an estimate from Daves landscape for $110 the estimate was for 2 hours . It's more than we normally pay but we went with it. We received a bill for double the estimate. When we called the woman in the office she explained that they charge for drive time. I didn't realize Marlborough was 2 additional hours from neighboring Hudson. And also read your small print "estimate may vary " I would never use or recommend this company again! read more
