This Dr. is a Saint. He cares so much about his patients and has an excellent bedside manner. He makes procedures easier by using lidocaine which Gyn's does not like to do. He is one in a million. I was having some unusual and extremely heavy bleeding, it was kind of scary. So I called the nurse and she told me an ER visit was not necessary, but that she could schedule an appt for me the next day with Dr. David Galland who is not my usual gyn. I am long over having male gynecologists (as I did in the 1980s) and would have said no, but I was so worried about the extreme bleeding. And Dr. Galland was so very kind, patient and knowledgeable. He was very gentle and explained some things to me twice because I wasn't tracking so well since I was so worried. At my request, he wrote down the instructions he gave me and was VERY clear about everything. I scheduled a minor procedure with him in a month and feel very confident in him, his capabilities, and his gentle and kind manner. I highly recommend him! read more

I have been seeing Dr Galland and his NP, Linda Goldberg, since I was 16 (and I am now 43 yrs old!) Dr Galland is very smart, quiet, a man of few words. He saw me through three pregnancies, the first of which ended in miscarriage. Linda goldberg is amazing. She will spend time with you (hence the occasional wait time for your appt) and is very clear, helpful, insightful, and understanding. I trust no one else with my privates!!!! read more

I had high hopes with seeing Dr. Galland based on all of the good reviews and he was recommended by a friend who sees him. Unfortunately I found him to be condescending quoting research I already knew with regard to Hormone Replacement Therapy. If you are a new patient, look elsewhere, as this doctor is not going to prescribe HRT. He is also not familiar with the relationship between estrogen use and thyroid issues. Though Dr. Galland had a great bedside manner, in a subsequent surgery with him, his analysis of my health issue turned out to be absolutely wrong, even though I suggested the issue I thought was the problem (and which later turned out to be the case). He basically said after exploratory surgery that he didn't know what was a matter with me and suggested I go back to a gastroentologist. Because of his misdiagnosis and failure to recommend further testing, I had to suffer for another year before I finally followed my own intuition, went to another doctor, pushed for the appropriate test (MRI) and had a surgery that has left me pain and symptom free for the first time in 14 years. read more

Upon reading all the positive comments about Dr. Galland I felt supported by the good experiences other women shared here. Dr. Galland has been attending to me for a number of years to observe the development of my enlarged uterus through Adenomyosis and several orange sized fibroids. My profession takes me on extensive trips as I attend to others and in the last 2 years I was challenged with distracting pain and extreme bleeding during my periods. In July I was facing a very intense travel schedule from the end of August through the beginning of November. During a visit with Dr. Galland I inquired more about a procedure he had been suggesting for a few years. A laprascopic Hysterectomy. He agreed that this procedure could improve the challenges I had been facing during the past 16 years of Business Travel. He explained the procedure and some of it"s side effects, 4 small incisions ,the procedure itself to be done under anesthesia in about 3 hours and I would be able to go home in the afternoon if all went well. Most of all my concern was that I would be well enough to travel 3 1/2 weeks after surgery.He assured me I would be. The surgery went well, when I woke up I felt sick and could hardly move. Going home seemed overwhelming and I was able to stay at the hospital. ( Maybe I should"t say this but all the nurses who attended to me through my stay, whispered in my ear that after a procedure like this the women always stay over) I failed to inquire about my part of the cost and was not informed,neither by the Hospital nor my insurance.Dr. Galland"s staff could not give me an answer and referred me to the insurance. Now I wish I would have done more research regarding the healing period and cost involved. 31/2 weeks after the procedure I was still experiencing pain and discomfort. Due to previous commitments I had to leave for work and did 39'days of extensive travel work under stress and in discomfort. As an independent contractor I felt under pressure to meet agreements. 39 days later I finally realized I could no longer meet my commitments. I cancelled my upcoming work and went home to rest. The company I had worked for 10 year as an Independent Contractor called me to let me go for future contracts.I lost income and when the bill came I had to meet an obligation of over $3000 as part of a $ 60. 000 bill for the doctors cost and the hospital ( most of which paid by my health insurance, Thank God) 3 months later I finally feel less discomfort ( still some tenderness in my abdomen )but experience high levels of anxiety and I feel wiped out a lot. As a modern woman it is important( I learned) to ask many questions and research our health issues and our doctors suggestions. Since my return home I have called Dr. Gallands office on a Friday and learned the office closed at noon. I told the answering service about my issue and that I would like to speak to the Doctor, I was put on hold for over 10 minutes with no one to speak to. The following week I called the office and asked to speak to the Dr. He called and left a message ,I called back right away and have not heard back. At this point I am discouraged and disappointed. Dr. Galland by my experience is a skilled surgeon, I hope I will be able to move better and work soon. My life has taken an unexpected turn with changes to adapt to. I have been meaning to leave my feedback for Dr. Galland now for a year (apparently, I have been busy with a new baby) but after reading the less than complimentary reviews below, I felt compelled to do so today. My personal opinion of Dr. Galland is completely the opposite. I was put into the undesirable position of having to relocate from Los Angeles to Marin while pregnant. After much (MUCH) inquiring with the general public, as well as doing research on my own of course, I continually came back to Dr. Galland. Without question, he knows his stuff. He is very matter-of-fact and in my case, he always provided educated answers to the questions asked of him. He always had a calm demeanor and was certainly never rough or careless (nothing like described in the review below). When my long labor culminated in my needing to have a c-section, despite being generally terrified of surgery, I found comfort in the fact that I had (according to many nurses, patients, ultrasound techs, you name it) the best surgeon for the job. Dr. Galland handled my pregnancy, labor and c-section fantastically and delivered our perfect, healthy daughter a year ago. That said, we have since moved back to L.A., but if I am ever pregnant again, I would seriously consider moving back to Marin for the sole purpose of having Dr. Galland as my Doctor (and delivering at Marin General for that matter - another excellent experience). read more

On dec 30/20 I had a D&C with Dr. Galland and this procedure has literally 'no risk'. Little did I know I would come out of surgery with my vagina torn and a bladder infection, so severe that I couldn't control my bladder! BEFORE the surgery I experienced one of the most brutal experiences of my life via this doctor, as he did an exam and his ice cold fingers into my very tender vagina, which torn it apart, causing level 10 pain. After that someone else repeatedly pushed disinfectants into the 'fresh and extremely painful wound', escalating the pain and keeping it going ! I have wondered 'why' the pain medication for which I was set up with a needle in my arm wasn't used right away? It would have only required to wait one minute more . After I returned home from this 'so called simple surgery', I tried to reach Dr. Galland, which proved to be 'impossible' ... no return call!! I then had no choice but to go to the ER at Marin General to get some help. Dr. Galland called me THREE DAYS LATER!! It has now been 1 week since my surgery and I am still bleeding and have severe pain if sitting! read more

He is the most professional, caring and kind physician that I have and i refuse to see anyone else. Dr Galland delivered my baby via csection and I just love him and his staff. He really took additional time to talk to me and on the big day, he was very understanding of my anxiety and helped me through it. He did a wonderful job during the procedure. All the nurses and doctors who checked me after were so impressed by his skill in fixing me up. The staff and nurses in his office is very nice too, and very helpful. I was actually sad when I had my last natal appoitment because I liked going there because I always felt like they cared what was happening with me and the baby. read more

You have to take the one star reviews with a grain of salt. There is no one I would trust more with my body than Dr. Galland. He is extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful and thorough. He's very calm and mild mannered, logical and exacting- exactly what you would want in a gynecologist. I'd trust him with my life in a heartbeat. Also, side note, I was in the emergency room the other day (long story) and the triage nurse was absolutely gushing about Dr. Galland. She couldn't have said enough good things about him. That says a lot, as nurses obviously know what qualities to judge in a doctor and have high standards where doctors are concerned. read more

Dr. Galland is the best. I had moved here a few years ago, had known for a long time I had fibroids on my uterus but hadn't been in to get them checked out in a long time, because I was told not to worry about them from a previous doctor. I came to Dr. Galland to find out my uterus was the size of a woman who was 16 weeks pregnant. That sure explained a lot. I had recently gotten married and we do want children. Dr. Galland sat down with my husband and I and discussed at length the different options. He spent a great deal of time explaining every little detail to us. I had my Myomectomy in March. Dr. Galland explained to me that I would need to take at least 3 weeks off of work and that it would probably take about 6 weeks before I was fully recovered. He thoroughly explained the recovery to me and he was right on the money. We can't ask a doctor to guarantee a recovery time on any patient because we are all different, and our bodies react differently to different things. I am a 30 year old woman and mine went really well. But it is after all surgery and there are never any guarantees. The best thing about Doctor Galland is he is very thorough and he gives it to you straight. He gives you your options he explains them in great detail and he helps you make a good decision for yourself. My surgery was very successful. I feel great and they got all of the tumors. I recovered much quicker than I expected. Don't get me wrong, the first week is hard, the second is significantly better and the third was even better, at least for me. I will not go see another Dr. as long as Doctor Galland is around. read more

What a delight it was to see Dr. Galland. His office had asked me to fill in a very extensive medical history on line before my appt. He had actually taken the time to read it thoroughly(that's rare!). He listened attentively to my complaints and concerns and asked intelligent and thoughtful questions. He has an excellent bedside manner: explains what he's going to do and does it as gently as possible. At the end of the visit he made helpful and carefully considered suggestions. Having been a registered nurse for nearly 30 years, I know what makes a doctor exceptional. Prevailing wisdom is to ask labor and delivery nurses who THEY recommend as a gynecologist. When you hear Dr. Galland's name over and over, it is clear the high regard nurses hold for him. I felt compelled to write a review letting everyone know what a find Dr. Galland is.... It is rare to find a doc who goes above and beyond for his patients, and Dr. Galland really did for me. I recently started to see Dr. Galland for a specific medical issue, and was nervous about seeing a male Doc. I had the worst experience imaginable with Dr. Galland. He made a series of mis-diagnoses that led to me finally being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Had he made the correct diagnosis earlier, it would not have been as advanced. Worse yet, it was ME who finally had to ask him to order the correct tests that led to the diagnosis. It has been a nightmare, and my life will undoubtably be shorter because of his mistakes. He may be fine for a simple, routine exam, but don't put your life in this man's hands, if there is anything serious involved. read more

When I first met with Dr Galland I was impressed but two experiences later I will never go back. It appears that he covered-up for an On-Call Doctor who did not provide good service to me. His staff told me who the doctor was but then Dr Galland told me after a brief hesitation that it was him. Then on my last in-person exam he actually yelled at me in anger, putting his face just a few inches from mine. Insisting that my holistic healer was absolutely no help to me and can't do anything for me!!! He was scary and I'll never go back. I have documented medical reports to show that Dr Galland was wrong and way out of line for his attack on me. I have a right to choose if I want to take a ton of medications every day for the rest of my lift (as recommended by many doctors), or go another more healthier route that does not involve drugs. I'm sure I'd be dead already or suffering very badly if I went the traditional route, especially since I'm very sensitive to any kind of chemicals and drugs. This Doctor demonstrated no respect for me or my choices and he is also ignorant of holistic healing methods that do not involve drugs. There was another bad incident with this visit as well but chose to ignore it. If you are the traditional patient who seeks drugs then this Doctor may be the right fit for you. read more

As a new patient, I was shocked that he would return my calls in the evening (on his "own" time), and he patiently answered my questions and makes me feel safe and cared for. He appropriately diagnosed a tumor that was missed routinely by my prior physician, got the care I needed immediately, and followed through on it. Wow, I can't believe the scathing review a couple people wrote but do note all others are excellent! Moved to Marin 11 yrs ago, asked around and started seeing Dr. Galland for my routine gyn visits. Have had a few minor issues over the years and I have always received prompt, thoughtful and thorough care from the Doctor and his staff. Dr. Galland is actually a very gentile man, soft spoken, kind... nothing at all like the description in the negative review. I work as a health care provider also and I can tell you that some patients can be so difficult that THEY create an unsuccessful experience for themselves. I have twice had to tell patients that I could not treat them because of their irrational behavior. Perhaps that was the case with the Gabriele P.? I even have my 20-something daughter seeing him for her annual exams. I would recommend Dr. Galland without reservation. One more thing... regarding the wait... in eleven years I have only had to wait beyond my appointed time on a couple occassions. Once I received a phone call about an hour before my appointment asking me to reschedule due to an emergency in the Doctors schedule. I appreciated the phone call rather than being "squeezed in" on a busy day. Again, as a health care provider I try very hard to stay on schedule but medicine is not an "exact" science and sometimes a routine visit can be anything but routine when unexpected problems are detected and must be dealt with. Would someone really want the Doctor to brush off a person in unexpected need of care? what if YOU were the one with an unexpected problem; would you want to be rescheduled so he could stay on time? It is not easy; we providers of care struggle with this regularly and having a patient become angry with us because we just dealt with a person in need does not help us to provide our very best for you when we walk into the room. I would say that 90% of my appointments with Dr. Galland over an eleven year period have been timely. read more

This review is about the recent introduction of invasive and personal long medical history survey that patients must fill out online or via phone before being seen. I've been a long-time patient of over 20+ years of Jeannot Carlson (NP of Dr. Galland) - had not been in the office for 3 yrs. So I was treated like a "new patient" re records. Avout 4:30 p.m. the day before my scheduled appt., I received 2 calls from people in the Marin area wanting me to answer a 30-45 minutes personal medical and ob/gyn history via phone. I declined. Then rec'd a call from a woman in North Carolina wanting me to answer the questions either via phone or online. I told her that I don't answer such questions on phone or online. When I got to the office, was told I still had to fill out the questions online - I said that I don't like such info on the Internet!! Receptionist staff said "oh it's only with this office." Guess she doesn't know about the women in North Carolina! Staff put me on a computer to answer the questions - invasive and personal and rather shocking questions to go on the Internet. I did not answer some of the questions - had a difficult time getting out of the survey because of it. The questions were ones that I've never had a doc ask me before. Jeannot Carlson is an excellent Nurse Practitioner and I respect her advice. I believe that this unbelievable survey and the online aspect of it is probably related to the practice going to Prima Medical Group within the past year or so. Dr. Galland recently performed an elective, but necessary extensive surgery. As I always do, I went to other doctors for second and third opinions, which reinforced for me that Dr. Galland was knowledgeable about the options, and eminently qualified to perform the surgery. The surgery was very successful, and by following his suggestions, both pre and post surgical, my recovery has been easy. He communicates clearly and directly, explaining tests and procedures and sharing results. He worked with another surgeon, Dr. Pathi, in my case, and they covered every base. I highly recommend Dr. Galland for his depth of knowledge, his being current on the latest procedures, and his wisdom in helping patients make their choices. I moved from Miami, Florida to Mill Valley in June, 2010. I had lived in Miami for most of my life and had developed wonderful, personal relationships with my physicians. The first time I went to Dr. Galland was for an annual check-up. It was routine and uneventful and I didn't really form any particular impression of him at the time. About a month ago I started spotting. I am a post menapausal woman of 67 years and had not bled in a long time. Needless to say, I was startled and got into his office within a few days. He immediately responded to the situation by doing an endrometrial biopsy. My diagnosis, Complex Hyperplasia Atypia, was not good news. This is a precancerous condition. Dr. Galland explained everything to me carefully. The next step was a D and C to make sure I could be a candidate for a vaginal hysterectomy, the recommended procedure in my situation. He got two opinions on the path report to make sure. I was terrified that I might already have cancer since the literature suggests a pretty high probability of finding cancer in women with this condition. Dr. Galland performed the hysterectomy and I am one of the lucky women who is now cured as a result of this surgery. Turns out I had a very early stage of cancer present. What I truly respect about Dr. Galland, besides the fact that he is a highly skilled surgeon, is the detailed information he provides as he guides you through what could be a very tense situation. He does not sugar coat reality and maybe for some people that is difficult to accept. I would rather know the truth and face it head on with enough information to make wise choices. And, he always gave me a choice while explaining his recommendations. I would not hesitate to recommend this doctor to any woman. read more

I went today, and although an annual exam is never something to look forward to, Dr. Galland tries to make it as easy as possible. The staff is friendly, the waiting room is very comfortable, and I was treated 5 mins early. I think Dr. Galland listens very well, and takes the time to understand individual needs. A model practice. Someone should make a video for medical schools, to train the next generation of doctors in Dr. Galland's exemplary qualities. For years before my first appointment with him, I had only visited his offices for Pap tests with an excellent nurse-practitioner, Jeannot Carlsson. Whenever I passed the doctor in a corridor, on his way into or out of a consultation room, I noticed his ferocious concentration on his notes -- as he was walking. He never once looked up. ... He is thorough and exacting. But he is also outstandingly sensitive, wise and compassionate. His staff reflect these qualities. He has a first-rate nurse in Michelle, but a colleague, Marly, who had to stand in for her the other day, was just as impressive. read more

The first time I saw Dr. Galland, we sat in his office across the desk from each other and talked for 30 minutes before going into the checkup room. He took time to get to know me and to understand what had brought me in, and what I hoped to get out of my appointment with him. I have been seeing him for about 7 years now, and am always so impressed with his knowledge and treatment. I always feel like I leave the office having had all my questions/concerns/issues addressed, even if it's just an annual checkup. He even wrote a letter to my insurance company after they denied me coverage for something, advocating for it to be covered. I thought that went way beyond what I've experienced with other doctors, and was really grateful that he would take the time to do that. My experience with him has never been less than great. Yes, there is a wait in his office at times, but it's understandable. Surgeries can go over the time scheduled, and unexpected things come up. It's life, and if it means he's making sure to do a really good job with another patient of his, I'm all for it and don't mind waiting. I'd want him to do the same thing with me. read more

I just went to this website to get the phone number of Dr. Galland's office to renew a prescription and happened to skim over the reviews. I am shocked to read anything negative about Dr. Galland. I have gone to him for several years and was thrilled to find him. Dr. Galland in my opinion is one of the very best GYN's anybody could hope to have. I am generally terrified of doctors and needles and needed to have several polyps removed. Dr. Galland could not have been more gentle or understanding and the procedure was not nearly as scarey as I had anticipated. The attending doctors and staff during the procedure were excellent and Dr. Galland put me totally at ease. I go at least once a year for a checkup and the nurse practitioner who works in the office, Jannot Carlson is absolutely the best. I have total confidence in Dr. Galland and his staff. They are friendly, caring, knowledgeable and totally professional. I feel so lucky to have found them. I would recommend the doctor and his staff to anyone. read more
