First, I want to comment on the 1-star review above. I think it's unfair and misleading to rate a doctor on his receptionists. Because, believe me, there's a lot more to an office than that. That said, it's annoying and unacceptable to not get a call back after leaving 3 messages; this has not happened to me with Dr. Wilner's office, but I have a tip for anyone who's having trouble getting through: Call on a Tuesday or Thursday when they're in the office (9am-noon, 2pm-5 or 6pm) and press zero to talk to the receptionist. Anyhoo: Dr. Wilner has been my OB for my first pregnancy right from the start and he's been awesome. Warm yet candid, willing to spend plenty of time answering my inane questions (without making me feel like they're inane!) and above all he's an experienced, highly competent OB/GYN. One of the things I like best about Dr. Wilner is that, while he's certainly part of the traditional medical establishment, he is not a slave to the crappy trends--namely, the current obsession with (often unnecessary) c-sections. Dr. Wilner says he hardly has to perform c-sections and, when I told him I was planning to use HypnoBirthing techniques for my delivery he said "Great!" His open-mindedness makes me confident that he's supporting my birth plan and, if I have to deviate from it, it will be for a very valid reason, not because he's closed-minded or skeptical. Has it ever crossed any of your minds to speak with Dr. Wilmer about the staff or to tell him about all the negative comments on yelp, which by the way isn't good for any of the Doctors that work at Prima Maybe even speak with the office manager there. I go right to the people that it affects the most it's just a suggestion. I wouldn't want to leave a Doctor that gave me such great care go because of bad help. I haven't had any of these bad experiences either but I speak my mind and I go to the Doctor and tell him my concerns. Dr. Wilner is a highly respected OBGYN and a board member at Marin General Hospital. Having said that, he never returned my calls after I was referred to him. I left three messages and not once did I receive a call back. Dissapointing. read more

I love love love love Dr. Wilner! I have had generally positive experiences with most doctors I've met, but Dr. Wilner takes it to a new level. I began seeing him in the first few weeks of my pregnancy, and from the moment I met him, I felt immediately comfortable and cared for. He manages to "tell it like it is", while still being supportive and personable. I had a breech baby, which meant an attempted ECV and ultimately a c-section, that I hadn't been hoping for, but that was ultimately necessary. He was so kind and nurturing throughout the whole process, holding my hand through the nervous moments, and calming any first time pregnancy fears I had. It was a fabulous process from start to finish, and I am so happy to have found such a fabulous doctor, and will actually miss our office chit chats now that I am back to my once a year appointment status. read more

Having menstrual issues since 12 years old and seeing many different OB/GYNs over the past 15 years, Dr. Wilner is hands down the BEST doctor, not just OB/GYN, that I have EVER gone to. He's a great listener, gives informative advice, and makes me feel comfortable every time I visit. I needed surgery and though it was painful, I was worry-free with him as my doctor. Been a patient at Prima for approximately fifteen years and had the utmost unpleasant experience with Dr Wilner last week! I had to see him instead of my other favorite doctors due to scheduling issues and left in tears! I was there for my yearly exam and first time IUD. First and foremost he barges into the room and announces we cannot do the IUD today because it has not been approved by my insurance. This was shocking as two different people from Prima had called me in the last several days prior to the appointment to confirm that the insurance covered it. He then abruptly said he cannot go forward with it until the medical assistant can confirm that. So fine moving on I asked him regarding a change in anti-anxiety medication as I am still trying to figure out the right one and he again abruptly interrupted me and said he cannot advise as he does not know me and I must talk to either my primary physician or the other OB/GYN's in the practice. Shocking as most doctors are well versed with any medication and able to provide their recommendations. The annual exam was uncomfortable to say the least and I'll leave it at that for privacy matters. At one point he asked where my last name was from and when I stated Persian he remained silent. Strange and quite rude. Next came the dreadful IUD insertion. No one bothered to tell me three excruciating shots were required in the cervix in order to get the IUD in. After the first shot I nearly hit the roof and told him I could not go forward with this. He offered no sympathy and instead made a joke by saying "well that was the easiest IUD I ever inserted"! Dr Wilner has no bedside manners whatsoever, is very rude, and incompassionate . Clearly he does not appear to give a crap about the patients. Thankfully he's old and perhaps will do everyone a favor and retire! Please do not agree to be seen by Dr Wilmer and instead schedule with the compassionate and professional doctors in the group like Dr Flores, Dr Voss or Dr Cardellini even if it means waiting to be seen. I think any free clinic would treat their patients better than I was treated by him! This doctor is bad news! read more

I'm very disappointed with my service there. They never call me back. Ever. They had a mishap/bad communication with my insurance company. They completely left me in the dark and then stuck me with the bill in the end. No one will return my phone calls. He delivered me when I was born too! I have to make a comment again here because I am so blown away with how much I absolutely love Dr. Wilner. Now that I have had my baby and have been through that whole experience with him (which was a complicated one involving a complicated c-section), I can't say enough great things about him. I really cannot say enough great things about Dr Wilner. I had another dr at Prima but due to scheduling challenges, I saw most of the doctors at the practice at some point throughout my pregnancy. I had 1 appt with Dr Wilner and it was the most comprehensive and caring dr appointment I have ever had. He listened, spent time with me and reviewed the progress of my pregnancy and all the various things I should be thinking about and taking care of at that particular time. After being told that my baby was in a head down position for months, in the last week of my pregnancy, we found out the baby was actually in a breech position. We are so happy and lucky that Dr Wilner happened to be the dr on duty at the hospital that day. He sat with us and thoroughly reviewed the options, talked through any questions we had and was so helpful and supportive. He followed up with my doctor on his own accord to talk about the situation and then called us first thing the following morning to check in. We felt so comfortable and confident in Dr Wilner, we decided to switch doctors and scheduled my C Section with Dr Wilner, who came in on a day he was not supposed to be in just for us. Throughout the whole process, he was incredibly knowledgeable, understanding and compassionate. He was always one step ahead of our questions, followed up on everything we talked about immediately and made us feel like we were in such great hands. The surgery went great and we could not be happier that we met Dr Wilner and he was with us to welcome out baby into the world! Doctors like Dr Wilner are very rare and hard to find. read more

I saw Dr. Wilner after leaving Women's Medical Group, which was horrible. I am so lucky to have found Dr. Wilner. I had a complications with one of my pregnancies and Dr. Wilner was amazing! He took such great care of me and his pride didn't not get in his way of making sure I saw specialist for extra care during my pregnancies. His compassion and tenderness after our horrible loss was just amazing. In fact, a nurse at MGH during my loss was horrible and negligent. Dr. Wilner was very upset with that nurse and made sure the necessary actions where taken. With my next pregnancy, a few months later, I was seen every 2 weeks during my whole pregnancy. I was in such good hands at all times. When it was time for me to schedule my delivery at MGH, Dr. Wilner made sure that one horrible nurse was not to come near my room. He made the call right in front of me and made sure I was going to have a successful and wonderful birth, which I did! I just love that man! I can't say enough amazing things about him! read more

First let me say I ADORE Dr. Wilner. He is amazing and I have loved every interaction with him and his former nurse practitioner Linda. However there office staff and receptionists are terrible. I don't know if its the actual receptionists or the billing company the use but they are the WORST. They have failed to update my address numerous times, had issues locating my records etc...and I have had many billing issues and mishaps as other reviewers have had. I am about to look for a new doctor and this makes me sad as I do really enjoy him, but its super unprofessional. read more

I love Dr. Wilner! He was my doctor for about 10 years, until my insurance changed and I was switched to Kaiser. I am so sad not to have him as my doctor anymore. He was always so caring and nice and most importantly thorough. I had some unique health issues and he was so patient to keep me in the loop and explain everything clearly to me, as well as to make sure I got the best care possible. I love Dr. Wilner!! He has always returned my calls, answered my questions in a professional yet frank manner, he makes me feel safe. I had a c-section with my daughter and not only did he do an amazing job, he gently walked me through mostly all aspects of it from the epidural to the sutures afterward, AND, my scar is ultra small and hardly noticeable. I think he is great. I can't wait for him to see him again for our second child. One bad thing about the office tho, is his assistant Marni. She seems like she is in a chronically bad mood. Never smiling or saying anything that might make you feel comfortable. Oh well, maybe that's her style. Fortunately she is not the nurse you will have in the hospital as she is only his assistant in the office!! Overall, I would deal with 100 Marni's to get to see Dr. Wilner!! My OB was not able to attend the birth of my child so Dr. Wilner delivered my baby. He was aware that I was in the middle of a natural birth. He gave me an episiotomy without asking... Like it was routine. I feel that he wanted to go home and didn't want to wait for me to do it myself since it was 4:00 a.m. I felt like he stole my thunder after 24 hours of labor and 4 hours of pushing. read more

My mother, whose Yelp site I am using right now to write this review, thought Dr. Wilner was a really good doctor for a long time. I guess he can deliver babies but when it comes to surgery my experience was a nightmare! My mother took me to him when I kept having ovarian cysts (two or three times a year). So here goes, my story: The surgery he performed was totally unnecessary ( the doctor's I've seen since all concur that he should never have operated!), and he never informed me of the strong probability that my symptoms would worsen! (Every doctor since has also said that this fact was COMMON KNOWLEDGE, scar tissue causes pain. So, why on earth would I go through with it if he had told me THIS truth? The answer is: I WOULDN'T HAVE!!!) and he mangled my bellybutton on his way in...Good by belly button ring!!! But the most devastating part of my whole experience with Dr. Wilner was the fact that when I began seeing him I was suffering severe abdominal pain 2 times per year for about a week or two each episode. When I left the hospital after the surgery 2 years ago, I have been in severe, debilitating pain EVERY DAY since then! That is 365 days times 2 which is approximately 730 days of agony. And every day when I asked him why my pain was worse than before the surgery he would keep telling me to be patient, the pain would get better. That never happened. P'S. Another little gem about Dr. Wilner's "wonderfully sensitive bedside manner": When I was 13, I suffered from anorexia-nervosa and he was very aware of this part of my history. I had just recently overcome this a year or two earlier while I was his patient and had put on some weight to become healthy ( I was struggling with self image because I hadn't seen myself at a normal weight in a few years. I looked good I realize now! My ribs and hp bones were no longer sticking out!) Well, when he came in to speak to me after the surgery he proceeded to tell me he had to use an extra large "gobbledygook" (some medical instrument doctor's use for obese people during surgery because they need to get through a foot or so of fat.) I have been told since that he mustn't be a very good surgeon because he had to use that on me. I am tiny and it is only used in extremely obese people (or by doctors who don't operate very much and thus are rusty). When I said I didn't understand what he meant, he grabbed his big belly and proceeded to tell me we both had big belly's! This is a 70 year old man comparing his body to a 17 year old girl (overcoming horrible body image problems so debilitating I almost starved myself to death) being told I have the belly of an old, fat man. I felt like dying a thousand deaths! I never wanted to eat again. I couldn't believe he had just said that to me! Find another doctor, ladies. read more

Dr. Wilner is not my regular doctor but when I was at Marin General for a c-section delivery he was one of the doctors on call during my stay. I found it amazing that my layperson's knowledge of pain medication was better than his. I was stressing to him that I needed to take the pain medication at regular intervals as opposed to his directions to wait until I was in pain, then take the pain medication. His answering service is atrocious. Very rude, dismissive, unprofessional. They refuse to give their names and now I know why. Reaching him or getting him to return your calls is virtually impossible. It's a recurring issue with him unfortunately, so not likely to change. So, as long as your baby is on Dr. W's schedule (no weekends and limited hours on Fridays), everything should be fine. Not very reassuring, I know. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Wilner since I was pregnant with my first child, who is now 28. He cared for me through two pregnancies, then when our insurance changed, I had to find a new doctor. Happily, I was able to go back to his practice after we had another insurance change. Dr. Wilner cares for his patients like they are his own family. He gets to know his patients, and spends time with them before going right into an exam - that has been my experience every time I've seen him.
