As much as I love the doctor, the $500 admin fee is ridiculous and not warranted. This is not a concierge service in any way. It becomes a bad look when doctors start to get greedy for charging an "admin" fee and when patients get absolutely zero value out of this. I had seen the doctor twice in one year-not sure what my $500 fee paid on top of payment for services. I'm very disappointed today!! I have been going to Dr LaFolette for over 14 years. I don't live in the Bay Area any more, so when I need to go for my annual appointment, I will fly in tomorrow, find a place to stay and rent a car. I made my appointment in July for Thursday, 2 days from now. I just got a call to remind me of my appointment and to say there is a new $500 fee for the office visit. Sorry. Truly one of the most exceptional OBGYNs and midwifery practices ever. Dr La Follette and Madeline Cushing, CNM are truly spectacular and caring -- they're detail oriented and attentive to all your concerns throughout pregnancy. Whilst I saw both over the course of my pregnancy, Dr La Follette was the one to deliver my second child, and she was energetic and enthusiastic and completely commanded the room. All the nurses at Marin General respected her, and she was just an incredible person to have in my corner! Madeline is also a brilliant midwife, and was so compassionate and knowledgeable -- and they're both just so fun! Additionally, the office and medical staff -- Audrey, Crystal and Mercy (to name a few!) -- are kind and really get to know you. They're prompt with communicating, and diligent in following up. I was really disappointed with the terrible customer service experience I had with La Follette OB-GYN. When I called over the phone and a $500 fee was mentioned, I was confused and wanted a to know if the fee was mandatory or optional. The person on the phone refused to give me a straightforward answer, became irritated with me, and put me on hold. After being put on hold, the woman on the phone continued to avoid giving me a direct answer regarding the fee, kept speaking to me in an annoyed tone of voice, and was extremely rude. I wrote a message to La Follete OB-GYN to report the incident around two weeks ago and all they did was give a thumbs up reaction to my message. I never got any response or apology, just a thumbs up as if they did not care. This was truly disheartening.... ‍‍ read more

Considering how much time your OB-GYN will spend with your intimate nether regions, it certainly helps to like your doctor... but it's even better when you LOVE your doctor! I cannot say enough good things about Dr Lizellen La Follette, Dr Jacqueline Dela Merced and the whole care team. Everyone in the office from the nurses to the receptionist exudes warmth and kindness, and I especially appreciate how they take the effort to get to know you personally. Our first meeting with Dr La Follette was about 20% medical and 80% sharing life stories including childhoods, careers, how my husband and I met and our long journey to getting pregnant. We were both immediately taken with Dr La Follette's bubbly energy and genuine enthusiasm for our pregnancy. I have some hypochondriac tendencies and I was always immediately calmed by her experienced words of wisdom. Dr Dela Merced is just as personal and calming -- and our intro meeting was dominated by talking about love of travel and cross-country roadtrips. The rest of the staff is all just as lovely and makes you feel like a part of a family. I have had about 6 different OB-GYNs over the years -- and not because I am that picky -- purely due to geographic moves. I used to think of health visits as just something to "get in and out quickly" which is what you typically get from giant medical groups that are impersonal where you never see the same doctor twice. I personally never thought good bedside manner was important, but when it came to my first baby and 9+ months of constant visits -- I decided it might be worth upping my standards. After a few phone intro calls with a few other practices, I decided I wanted to go to a smaller practice where you could predictably see the same doctor each visit (vs the larger practices like Prima Medical where you may not see the same doctor twice, and may not even know who will deliver). The downside to relying on just 1-2 doctors rather than a bigger hospital type network typically means response times might be slower when I would call panicked about some strange pregnancy symptom off hours, but that never was the case with Dr La Follette. She always answered my questions promptly whether I left a message with their answering service or on the online portal. Dr La Follette made sure I did alternate seeing her and Dr Dela Merced so over the 15+ visits (I was really late...) I felt comfortable with either to deliver. And I ended up having both due to my 39 hour induced labor! Despite the warm fuzzy birth anecdotes you may hear, giving birth was not actually in my top 100 life experiences ... as it turned out we had a very complicated and difficult birth but I am very glad I had Dr La Follette's energetic team supporting me the whole way - had it not been for their swift actions taken during the birth I don't even want to think of what may have happened. Most of the negative Yelp reviews I see here are regarding the admin fee -- honestly I haven't found any practice that doesn't charge that nowadays in some way or another so personally it's a moot point. And considering the personalized service you get at all levels from this practice, it's worth it! read more

After being a long time patient; my wife was notified today that they would not be able to renew a monthly prescription without coming into the office and paying a $500 "admin fee". This is 6 days before the prescription ran out which left us in a bind (not enough time to setup an appointment with her primary doctor). We have no choice but to go to urgent care to fulfill this now; given the short notice. The office was completely unwilling to work with us (given last minute notice); hence the 1 star review. read more

The first red flag on my first appointment today was that no one at reception asked me any Covid standard protocol questions. Then the red flags kept coming... I arrived to my 2pm appointment early at 1:45pm and filled out 6 very detailed intake forms. At 2:15pm I was called into the patient room and my blood pressure and weight was taken. While I was waiting in the patient room to see La Follette the receptionist came into the room and told me that they couldn't see me because they didn't yet have my paperwork from my previous OB-GYN. I was only having a consult/non-medical treatment so I questioned why they needed these forms? Never the less, I then proceeded to call my former OB-GYN and asked them to fax the paperwork to La Follette. They told me that they had already faxed them 15 minutes ago! Now it was 2:30pm. I left the patient room to inform the receptionist that they had all the paperwork faxed to them 15 minutes prior. She said, oh yes, they are here! Huh? She proceeded to tell me that since I was so late to my appointment it was cancelled. Explaining that the doctor didn't want to get behind. She asked me if I wanted to reschedule for three weeks out!? I said first off, I was 15 minutes early, second you have all the paperwork, and third there is not a single person in the waiting room!!! If the doctor needed additional time to review my paperwork then they should have just said that from the beginning! Rather then falsely blaming me for being late or pretending they didn't receive the fax. Red flag central. Proceed at your own risk. This place is too crazy for me. read more

I would stay away from this provider. The $350 annual charge is just silly as they provide zero service. Refuse to give a mammogram referral even though that should be an easy preventative item unless they get their fee every year. They keep emailing the wrong email address for a patient (they have been emailing me instead), and I have reached out to them multiple times to let them know of this error over several years. Instead, they continue to email me about appointments and other information that should not be going to the wrong email address. I sadly had a miscarriage about half way through my second pregnancy with LaFollette. She made a horribly tragic situation even more difficult with her negligence and combative attitude. I could not get her or the NP to call me back all day when I first knew something was wrong. She told me not to go to the hospital, dismissed any concerns I had and was flat out rude. She actually said she "didn't want to start a fight" with me on the phone when I was just trying to get reassurance that everything was in fact ok (it wasn't). She said to go to work and bed rest was never the answer in pregnancy. Even in my healthy pregnancy with she was never caring or nurturing. I'm deeply scarred by my experience with LaFollette and I have been torn about what to do about it. It's painful recounting my experience (this is the condensed version) but if I can save another woman the trauma of dealing with an ego driven doctor in their time of need then this is worth it. read more

It's taken me a long time to get here to write this review, but need to let it be known what my experience was. I was seeing Dr Dela Merced for a few years after moving to Marin. I found her to be nice and talkative and my visits were always pleasant, until the day I came in to have my IUD changed. I had previously had one inserted by my old OB in LA prior to moving and after giving birth. At the time of insertion, the IUD I received (Liletta) had only been approved for up to 3 years. I had this marked in my calendar as I did not want to end up w an accidental pregnancy. When I came in to see Dela Merced, she was immediately annoyed that I wanted it replaced because in the interim, Liletta had become approved for a longer amount of time. So rather than their office doing their due diligence, she had me call my old OB to ask him about it -- when were placed on a long hold she snapped at me and said, "in the time we've been waiting I could have just changed it so let's get it done with." And rather than her looking at her own medical info, she had me pull up on my iPhone the info that that iud had originally only ever been approved for three years. Then she was more annoyed, even tho she asked me to look it up. I was sure to let her know I was happy to skip the discomfort and take her word for it that it would last longer, but she hesitated and said we should just change it. Then she had me lay down for the procedure, but in the midst of her irritation at this appt that was apparently annoying and inconvenient to her, she gave me no warning of beginning the removal of the old device and she essentially just yanked it out. There was no care, caution or kindness used in the process. She again gave me no warning that she was now inserting the new device, with no guidance on breathing or tactics to make the insertion more comfortable. Her approach was aggressive and left me traumatized. I was in unbelievable pain for the remainder of the day -- I know this isn't a comfortable procedure, but I had done it before and did not have this kind of aggression or physical response. I have been widely unable to talk about my experience in her office that day because it was shocking and vile -- in a space that should be safe for women, I felt abused by the doctor and entirely unsafe. It took me a long time to realize that my experience there was real and uncomfortable and downright wrong. Not to mention the office has a $300 "admin fee" that is an outrageous additional cost to be a part of their office. Such a shame.. Update as of 2/28: I got a random refund for $20 for my copay from this visit, but with no follow up call or email to explain why they felt this was necessary. I did get a private message on here asking me to call in to speak to the manager about this to "get to the bottom of it" because it "doesn't sound like how their dr's would act." I responded and let them know if they felt they needed more info they could do the work of contacting me personally, which they haven't. It's confusing to me that this dr office is capable of sending me a refund but not a phone call. I didn't have an expectation of a response at all, and find myself more uncomfortable by the evasive response to a trauma occurring in their office. read more

We delivered two babies with Dr. La Follette & Dr. De La Merced, one with each! Our first was overdue and I had to be induced. We were at the hospital for over five days with Dr. De La Merced and she was incredible. Her intense focus, kindness, humor and patience was exactly what we needed to bring our girl into the world safely. She allowed me to labor how I wanted, deliver vaginally and have our much deserved tummy time immediately. Her dedication was above and beyond, I adore this woman! I know other doctors would have rushed us, but not Dr Jackie, she knew how important my birth plan was to me. Fast forward two years to the delivery of our second girl and our pregnancy was complicated, high-risk and required a scheduled C-section. Dr. La Follette was amazingly attentive. She constantly checked in on me, reassuring us at every turn that she had a solid plan for delivery no matter the complications. I ended up needing an emergency c-section, which was terrifying, but Dr. La Follette maintained a steady focus for the entire surgical staff, nurses and my husband. She delivered my daughter within 45mins of us arriving at the hospital. It was obvious in the operating room that the staff at Marin General respects her, trusts her and are dedicated to her. I cannot imagine two more different births! Dr. La Follette has an energy about her that is infectious. As a Doctor she is devoted to high quality care for her patients while making you feel a part of her family - she genuinely cares. I am forever grateful to her for creating such a comprehensive practice. Thank you Lizellen & Jackie for bringing my girls home. read more

I have been a patient of Doctor Lizellen La Follette before pregnancy, throughout pregnancy, and delivery. I cannot recommend her highly enough and cannot praise her enough. First of all, I felt very well supported throughout my pregnancy. More importantly, however, Dr. La Follette did an outstanding job during the delivery. My delivery was lengthy and difficult. I think that almost any other doctor would have gone for a C-section after I already spent several hours in labor. However, Lizellen confidently assured me that we were not going for a C-section and she will get our baby boy out safely and ... she did! Finally, Dr. La Follette is just a fun, passionate, and super high energy (really HIGH) person and her energy is contagious. My entire family is tremendously grateful to her. First the receptionist was disorganized and did not seem to understand what I was saying. It took over a week to get an appointment even through there was some urgency. After I was forced to go to the ER due to significant blood loss, the doctor moved the appointment up a little sooner. I saw Dr Franca who seemed knowledgeable and caring and helped i the short term. Later I had to call in the evening because I was bleeding so bad. Dr La Follette was on call and said the bleeding was out of control becasue I was not taking the prescribed medication correctly. Okay - shouldn't they have told me how to take it when they gave it to me? Dr La Follette was cold and uncaring and hung up on me when I was in crisis. Also beware if they don't like your insurance or you don't have any!! Unlike other medical providers who give substantial discounts for cash patients and accept sums like those arranged by the insurance company they charge almost full fare. They only give a 10% discount for cash paid at time of service and charge the individual patient far more than they would collect from Blue Cross or one of the other large insurance companies. Way to go!! Get the most money from those who can afford it the least when they are the most vunerable. Later when I tried to get a statement that I could submit for insurance reimbursement the billing person could not even print one out !! A simple statement saying she came in for this, was charged that, and paid that was not possible! They don't bill but once the account is fully paid they can't provide the proper documentation. Terrible office process that I'm sure is handed down from the top. I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 because of Dr Franca's caring manner. read more

First off... LOVE Lizellen to death! She's the best. I had a horrible experience with another gynecologist, and she stepped in, figured out what was going in with my menopause symptoms, and got me straight. Thanks to her, I slept a full night for the first time in 10 years. That being said, I received a letter in the mail today that the practice now requires a $300 "participation fee." This is not covered by health care nor does it change the cost of office visits that are... well... kinda pricey to begin with. It's just a fee that you pay for the privilege of being a patient. I called today, and the business manager, who was VERY nice, explained that this fee was an add-on so that the practice could stay small and personalized. That's great for someone who needs a lot of gynecological care, or obstetrics care, or for someone who can just drop three bills anytime she wants. But I'm just a chick who needs a script every six months and a pap smear every 12. Already my out of pocket to see her was in the neighborhood of $150, now it's going to be upwards of $450. I love Lizellen like crazy, but this insane "participation fee" screams, "Get out you blue-collar plebs. We're a boutique practice for the Marin elite." So, looking AGAIN for a new gynecologist. I can't say enough good things about Dr La Follette & Dr De La Merced's practice. I switched to their practice at the start of my third pregnancy and am so glad I did. I saw both doctors throughout my pregnancy and I can say that both are truly top notch. Both were very detailed and thorough with my care. They made sure I was aware of all the extra testing available due to my advanced maternal age this time around but never pressured me into doing any of it if I didn't want to. Both doctors are extremely warm and friendly too and I always felt like they truly listened to me at each appointment. I always looked forward to my visits with their office and they always greeted me with a smile. I was also always able to schedule appointments when I needed them. They are also very accommodating with whatever birth plan you may have. For me, they went above and beyond and allowed me to choose my induction date as I really wanted to deliver on my mom's birthday which was just after my due date and they made that happen. I got a call from Dr La Follette shortly after my delivery just asking how I was feeling and how the baby was. I really feel like they care about their patients. A huge plus is that this office will deliver at both CPMC/Sutter & Marin General and it was so nice to have the option of either since we live right in between the two. I HIGHLY recommend this practice! I'm done with having kids now and will continue to see them for ongoing OBGYN needs. read more

I needed help with adjusting my hormones which I've been taking for a year and some other issues. Dr. LaFollette was referred to me by two people and she's covered under my PPO, but when I called to make an appt, I was told there would be an additional $300 fee to see Dr. LF. Um, no. So I saw Dr. de la Merced who was good enough, but it seemed to me that her scope was just regular exams. I would give Dr dlM 3 stars--A OK. My beef with this office is the ridiculous online patient portal on which I spent over 40 min populating fields with all kinds of personal info before I gave up. When I got to the office, I was told to complete the form (which is the most ridiculous patient tracking software I've EVER seen and that includes UCLA's vast patient tracking software). I filled out some more fields for about 10 min in the office and then gave up. I went to another gyn (whom I LOVE because she's experienced, knowledgeable, and she spends time getting to know her patients) because I continued to have problems and decided never to come back here mainly because of that ridiculous software system and I STILL get spam telling me to check the patient portal. I want nothing to do with that time-wasting software system. read more

I looooooooooooooooooove these people. I would encourage anyone anywhere to go to this girly doctor's office if at all possible. I found them by a divine accident during my pregnancy. I had to get a government type of insurance, (AIM) and even though I live in San Francisco, they put me in Marin. I interviewed another OB there who gave me the ultimate creeps and shall remain nameless, and in my search I found this little enclave of angels. I knew from 1 minute into my first phone call with them that their practice is exactly what I was looking for, and it only got better. The office itself is like a grown up girls happy place. Everything is pink and cute but not yucky cute, classy cute. For a pregnant lady, it was somehow especially nice. They use pink gloves and fuzzy foot warmers on the stirrups, there are tasteful quotes painted on the wall from famous female leaders... I've never seen a doctor's office like that before, really cool. I had some pretty scary issues I was facing, I'd had 1 still-birth and 1 sort of traumatic induction that ended in a botched epidural but a healthy live baby. I was ready for another healthy live baby, but was hoping to not have a difficult induction or bad epidural. Lizellen was no nonsense and delightful. I wanted the safety of medical, but the freedom and support of natural. They couldn't have been a more perfect fit. They knew just what I needed and wanted, and did everything they could to encourage support and sanely advise me. I ended up being diagnosed with something called Choleostasis, for which the treatment is induction as the result can be still-birth! So the 2 things I had hoped to avoid were now staring me down. They understood my fears, though did not cater to them. They kept me informed, but tried not to overburden or alarm me. They were completely available to answer questions, get me test results as soon as possible, and seamlessly keep me cared for generally. Emily even had me come in and checked me out for a persistent cough I had in the end. Not quite gyno, but it was killing my pregnant belly muscles! When it came time to induce and deliver, everything went effortlessly. I got the exact balance i needed of natural and medical. At the end, when I really thought I couldn't take it another minute, Lisa came swooping in with reams of power and experience and just did some kind of fancy magic stuff that distracted me from the pain (I had to concentrate on NOT pushing- as my baby wanted out but my cervix wasn't quite ready) and in about an hour after that point I was holding my perfect baby girl. One more thing, I think its a secret mid-wife gift, Lisa actually made me feel like my baby was the most beautiful special baby in the whole world. How do they do that? I mean she's got her own kids, but that's how caring they are. When someone can make you feel special, but not like problem special, even when you probably are problem special, that is truly a gift. I've seen Dr. LaFollette for the past 8 years and today was my last day. She started requiring $300 per year to cover administrative expenses. Since I only see her once a year - I haven't paid it. What could they possibly need $300 for to file insurance for one visit?! It isn't even covered by insurance - it's like a $300 tip to her and her staff. We've had the agreement whereby if I need to come see her a second time within the year, I would settle up. I've never needed to see her more than once a year so I haven't paid it. Today, when I went in for my annual - which by the way I had to call and schedule myself - she wouldn't see me unless I paid the $300. As if she's hurting financially - she charges an arm and a leg to insurance for a check up and then needs to charge another $300? Appalled! There wasn't even an opportunity to have a conversation with her in person. Her staff at the window said she wouldn't come out to talk to me because she has 3 patients in labor at the hospital. I reminded them that I was here for my scheduled appointment and they said again that she wouldn't come out. So - after 8 loyal years and a finale filled with disrespect and money gouging - she can count me out. Definitely do NOT recommend!! read more

Considering the wonderful reviews here on Yelp, I wish I got to meet Dr. Follette but sadly I never did because she charges an extra $300 per year in administrative fees, and you get charged this fee immediately, even if you've never met her! I understand charging an extra fee if that means you get to spend more time with patients and I would be happy to pay said fee if I established care with Dr. Follette and stayed with her practice but agreeing to pay $300 ($150 if you only see her once a year) up front without ever meeting her or knowing if I'm going to want to continue to be her patient is just too much for me. What if we just didn't click? $150 just to meet someone seems pretty over the top. I guess it's a good way to limit your number patients. read more

I found this practice after I was told by Sutter that I would have to wait a month to have a consultation with one of two doctors that perform tubal ligation. (Sutter is very close to me an convenient so that is where I started my search). I was quickly scheduled to see Dr Dela Merced and was pleased to find the practice to be clean, decorated and warm. The staff was super friendly and helpful which is not, in my experience, a common occurrence with Sutter- not hating, just sayin' .... After relocating to the area and putting off finding a new gynecologist, I was referred here by my PCP at Sutter Pacific. As I have been less than enthusiastic about my PCP, I wasn't terribly excited to reach out to this office until the onset of a Bartholin cyst prompted me to call them and schedule an appointment. When I told the nurse why I was coming in, she offered me multiple same day appointments and appointments for the next day, which I was extremely impressed by. I came in and saw Dr. Binkley after work. I ended up getting lost and was 30 minutes late, however, the front desk was amazing and got me in as soon as I arrived. After having terrifying experiences with Bartholin cysts, doctors and emergency rooms, I had braced myself for the worse. However, Dr. Binkley was amazing. She said that it could easily be lanced in the office and I'd be on my way. After nearly having a meltdown, she used a numbing cream prior to injecting the anesthesia. I felt nothing and left in tears, happy tears, because I had finally found a doctor who understands how traumatic this is for a lot of women and made this a tolerable procedure. read more

Genuine health CARE which delivers personalized, quality care along with a consultative and comfort-based approach is just what I found at the OB/GYN medical offices of Lizellen La Follette, MD, and her outstanding team of physicians in Greenbrae, CA. I have no doubt in my mind that my wonderful doctor, Jacqueline DeLa Merced, MD, honestly has my best interest at heart...without fail. I have read the other reviews discouraged by the fee for participation in this exceptional group of physicians. I was also taken aback at first, until I met the doctors, the nurses, the staff, grasped the level of service, genuine caring, listening, and, I am not kidding, advice, attention, help with any of my OB/GYN needs anytime...I mean anytime. I haven't heard of professional, and exceptional attentiveness such as this, well, ever! I struggle to make ends meet as a single mother at times, and this fee to be a part of such a genuine, talented and attentive staff is worth every penny to me. I think if every medical office offered this type of "VIP" service, I'd happily pay a reasonable fee. I could not be happier with the trust and, honestly, friendship I feel I have formed with Dr. DeLa Merced. She is exceptionally talented, kind, approachable, knowledgable, not to mention a genuine loving, caring physician and a terrific woman. I feel fortunate to have this relationship, and I trust that I'm in great hands for years to come. I'm confident when I say that your expectations will be exceeded. I have had a great experience with this Ob/Gyn office. I recently relocated to the Bay Area and was having a difficult time finding a practice that would take me in as a new non-pregnant patient even though I have great insurance. I had an urgent matter to be taken care of and I couldn't get an appointment for weeks to months ahead from many offices. Long story short, after a very bad experience with another medical office, I ended up having to be admitted into Novato Community Hospital. Dr. Jacqueline Dela Merced was called on to look after me in the hospital. Her care in the hospital, as well as in office, has been wonderful. She is caring, attentive, knowledgable and very down-to-earth. Yes, there is a practice fee you have to pay, but it is worth it for the quality of care and attentiveness of Dr. Dela Merced and the staff at this practice. I am also in the holistic health field and Dr. Dela Merced is very open minded about alternative medicine. I would highly recommend Dr. Dela Merced. She is truly wonderful! read more

Too bad I never had a chance to try this practice. I attempted to make an appointment but was shocked at how terrible i was treated over the phone. After several hours of failed attempts at their eVisit, I was told it just doesn't work if you're not an established patient first. When I asked for an estimate on a first consultation appointment as I have a high deductible, I was repeatedly told "$275. to several hundred dollars and I cannot give you an exact amount". I got the distinct impression that this office prioritized $$ over patient concerns. I was treated so rudely so will look elsewhere for the help that I need. read more

My one star is based on the following incidences: -Dr. Dela Merced instructed me to take the wrong dosage amount of a prenatal supplement I needed. - I was not provided with the AFP blood test form (Down syndrome screen). I took all the forms I was provided by Dr. Dela Merced to the lab to have my blood drawn. When I visited UCSF for my first trimester prenatal scan, they inquired about the AFP and it was at that time that I learned that I was never provided the form. Based on how large the baby was measuring, I only had one day to get the blood work done. I informed Dr. Dela Merced via email about the missing AFP form and asked how this happened. A nurse called me back - she offered no apology and stated that Dr. Dela Merced incorrectly believed that the prenatal screener (UCSF or Sutter) provides the paperwork for the AFP. - I had decided to do the Natera genetic screening. I had my blood work done and waited for my results. The Natera webpage states that results take 7 to 10 business days. After more than 2 weeks, I emailed Dela Merced asking where were my genetic testing results. A nurse called me back and said that it generally takes this long and to just keep waiting. Based on the Natera webpage I did not think this was a normal wait. I called Natera myself and I was told Natera had no record of me. I emailed Dela Merced again to relay what I learned and asked for assistance. Again, the nurse called me back. She said that Dela Merced did not keep a record of the Natera request so they did not have a copy of the record number. She basically was like there is nothing we can do for you. I again called Natera to sort this out. The Natera representative ultimately found my results under the wrong name. My name on the form that Dela Merced had provided Natera was illegible. Natera called Dela Merced twice to sort this out, each time the receptionist just hung up on the Natera representative. I again had to email Dela Merced to explain what forms needed to be provided to Natera to straighten out the name. When I finally got the results, the gender was not included, which we had wanted to know. Again, I had to call Natera and then email Dela Merced to sort this out. Bear in mind that I did all of this work myself to get my results even though Dela Merced requires a $300 admin fee!!! - After the above 3 incidences I felt like I needed to change doctors. I had lost confidence in the care being provided. At this point, I had visited Dela Merced maybe 3 times. I asked for a refund of the administration fee that I had paid. I received no response and no refund. Nothing in the service I received warranted an additional administration fee. In fact I should be paid for all the time I put in sorting out their mistakes. - My new doctor reviewed my initial lab work that Dela Merced had ordered. My new doctor noticed that some of my lab results required further follow up. This led me to conclude that Dela Merced had likely not reviewed my lab work. I know we had never really discussed any lab results. read more

I have to reply to the person who says that concierge medicine is the way of the future, lots of doctors have not implemented that. Prima medical group has wonderful doctors, and that is where I went after experiencing years of mediocre to bad experience with the receptionists here. And I have been left in the exam room waiting for hours in total at this place. I didn't want to complain at the time to avoid further problems, just please get the experience over. The doctors and nurse practitioners have been fine, but as the years went by for my experiences in this office, once the concierge fee came up, that was it. And I'm glad I don't have to put up with being ignored, forgotten, or whatever is going on with these people. And the robocalls are annoying to this day. Good luck all. read more

My husband and I recently had our first child and I am EXTREMELY happy I chose Dr. La Follette and Dr. De La Merced as my OBGYNs! When I first found out I was pregnant I shopped around for an OB. The first was a private practice doctor, but she proved to be scatter-brained, so I moved onto Prima. Although one Prima doctor was excellent, other Prima doctors were rude, patronizing, and lacked good bedside manner. Furthermore, with so many doctors, I did not feel safe getting to know one or two well, and vice-versa, which was important to me when in the delivery room. Lastly, at Prima, the office staff in several offices were just as dismissive and there were long wait times to see the docs. These experiences left me searching for a better doctor... Then I found Dr. La Follette and Dr. De La Merced. Yes, you have to pay a fee to sign up for their services, but it is well worth it. Prior to my first appointment the office staff must have told Dr. La Follette that I was looking for a caring and capable doctor after much disappointment with others. Dr. La Follette personally called me to listen to what didn't work with others and we discussed what I needed, especially since this was my first born. Her demeanor immediately surprised me and set my mind at ease. Then after my first appointment I just knew she was the game changer. I signed up to stay with them. I got to know both doctors equally well and felt very comfortable with whomever was in the delivery room (I had a long delivery, so both doctors were there at different times, and it all went very very well!!!) Throughout my pregnancy I loved working with the office staff who were always kind, efficient, and capable, and I never waited for longer than 10 minutes to see the doctors. La Follette is highly energetic, super sweet, and really, REALLY knows her stuff!! De La Merced is calm, bright, and is equally as GREAT! Anytime I had questions, they had the answers. I used their confidential online portal and they always got back to me within 24 hours when emailing concerns. Any medical issue that arose, they took care of it. I just can't say enough good stuff about them. They work so hard going between meeting patients at their office and working on deliveries and checking up on patients in the hospital, I just don't know how they do it all!?! But they do, and do so with smiles. I am very thankful for the poor experiences I had with other OBs because they lead me to find Dr. La Follette and Dr. De La Merced. I will continue with them as my regular gynecologists as I've grown attached to their quality and care. read more

Just arriving home after FIVE HOURS OF DRIVING to and from my confirmed appointment that was cancelled shortly before I got there. I live 2 1/2 hours away from Greenbrae and scheduled my appointment months ago. I have been waiting patiently for this appointment. Today I lost my patience when they cancelled on me as I was driving there. When I finally got the message, I called the receptionist and she offered very little apology. Dr. La Follette has been my OB since I moved to the Bay Area. She delivered my youngest and helped me over the last eight years with health care beyond OB. I have never felt that she preferred her OB patients. Recently, Lizellen has held my hand as I'm working to recover from an unusual and difficult disease which she diagnosed immediately and made accurate and aggressive decisions about how to move forward with treatment. She referred me to excellent specialists and is diligent about keeping me informed as soon as she gets my test results or other information from the team of doctors that she assembled. She checks in with me regularly. I am so grateful and relieved that Lizellen has supported and guided me through this difficult time. Also, Tammy and the rest of Dr. La Follette's staff have been kind and professional throughout this long period that such close contact between myself and the office has been required. (Clearly, whatever problems were encountered in the past by other reviewers have since been resolved).
