If you are ever in need of a specialist in the gastroenterology area (issues involving stomach/throat/swallowing/digestion problems dealing with the previous areas listed) - PLEASE - get a referral and book an appointment with Dr. Venu. A family member - after various tests and procedures involving gastro and possible swallowing disorders (you don't necessarily have to FEEL it to have the issue. Usually the issue is picked up during other more routine tests...) was booked to see Dr. Venu. He was very kind, overly understanding, THOROUGH (as stated above), and even funny. Dr. Venu ordered my mother one more swallowing test which while only about 30 minutes and technically painless, is indeed NOT comfortable as certain small tubes would be run through the nose and throat. During the procedure, Dr. Venu even came into the testing room to comfort and joke around with my mother during the procedure. My mother stated that if it had not been for Dr. Venu's kind, calm, and humorous demeanor, she may not have gotten through the test. Afterwards, Dr. Venu HIMSELF called my mother with an update, test results, and medication he wanted her to try. Dr. Venu spoke with my mother on the phone upwards of 20 minutes while she was in Costco and again was very personable, kind, and compassionate. We cannot recommend Dr. Venu enough, and he is a tremendous asset to Loyola hospital.

Now the downside is they only take check or cash meaning no swipe machine for those who do it plastic all the way. The place is really antiquated (typewriter heard in the background) and no swipe machine really dampens the moment for me. Since I do plastic all day everyday. But I did have my checkbook in the car so that is a good thing. I am more so into newer and fancier places of business since the antiquated really irks me. I am not into paneling, but when you have a good Doctor who is kind and considerate as well as answering questions, this is something that is good. So overlook the antique look, and you will get a Doctor who actually takes the time out to care and just be warm with his patients.

Most of the people who work here speak Spanish as well. Not helpful in my case, but it's super helpful to many patients. My only complaint would be the waiting time today. I had an appointment at 2pm today and I'm literally writing this while waiting for the doctor to see me. It is 3:00pm right now. But this is the first time I waited this long and it is after a long weekend so I'm not taking any stars off for that. I feel very comfortable with the doctor and all his staff. Also worth mentioning is that they accept the insurance for people with low income (found this out after talking to a lady who was waiting to see the doctor and overheard the nurse informing a patient that they accept it). It was freezing inside the clinic--cold enough to see your breath. Even with space heaters plugged in, it still felt uncomfortable, especially for older patients. We had an appointment, yet were told the doctor was still making hospital rounds and we'd need to wait longer. This was the same explanation we received last year. If scheduled appointments aren't going to be honored, it really defeats the purpose of having them. When we were finally brought back, we waited another 20 minutes in an exam room that was just as cold. My mom did receive some advice, but it was the exact same guidance her primary doctor already gave. So after paying a deductible and enduring the long wait in an icy room, we walked out feeling like nothing new was accomplished. At this point, we'll likely be seeking care elsewhere. It just doesn't make sense to keep returning when the experience isn't improving and the visit doesn't provide anything helpful or new.
