My son had his wisdom teeth taken out today. The entire process was simple (albeit expensive) and comfortable. We changed doctors for my son's procedure from my daughters because the previous doc changed his scheduling policy and would not let us schedule the surgery until after we physically had the consult and I wanted the date on the books since summer was running out. I called Dr. Rainero's office and they were very friendly and helpful and allowed me to go ahead and schedule the consult and surgery in the same week. They were very thorough in explaining the procedure, risks, pre & post care as well as a detailed explanation of every single charge. Everything was upfront with no surprises. All of the staff and Dr. Rainero had an excellent demeanor with my teen son which put me at ease. Everything went well and he's home resting. The recovery nurse was great, the doc came in to check in with me and my son before we left. I was impressed when the doc called this evening to check in on him personally. I could tell he was on his car speakerphone which shows that his patients matter even on the drive home. Every single person we came into contact in that office was friendly and pleasant. My only complaint would be that there was a bit of a wait to see the doc for both the consult and also the procedure but since everything else was better than expected I felt the full 5 stars were earned. read more

I was recommended to Dr Rainero's office by my dentist who is well aware of my nervous nature with regard to dental procedures. I needed to have two molars extracted which were disintegrating. Dr Rainero discussed the procedure in detail, including bone grafts as I plan to have implants installed to replace these teeth. He patiently answered all of my questions and made me feel completely at ease with the entire procedure. As odd as this may sound, this extraction was the most pleasant dental experience I have had outside of routine cleanings. I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed, so my regular dentist referred me to Dr. Rainero. I scheduled the consult, during which we looked over my x-ray (which my dentist had sent over to Dr. Rainero beforehand) and he essentially told me that all four needed to be removed. Consult was about 15 minutes. My dental insurance covered a portion of the procedure, but I was required to pay the difference by check before the procedure was performed. (typically my dentist sends the bill to my insurance, my insurance pays the balance, then I pay my insurance the difference / whatever wasn't covered. Not sure if this is typical of oral surgeons since I've never had any sort of oral surgery performed before). The procedure was pretty quick. I really don't have any problems with being sedated, needles, or surgery, but it was laid back and easy. I had a friend drop me off at home. The recovery was the hardest part for me. I needed to take two days off of work to recover. The pain medication prescribed made me feel like I was hallucinating, so I stopped taking it. The follow up visit was easy. Everything looked okay and Dr. Rainero gave me tips on how to keep the stitched areas of my gums clean. Dr. Rainero is very competent. He's very easy to talk to and straightforward (which I appreciate). He did call me later on the day of the procedure to check in on me, but I had fallen asleep to recuperate. Getting your wisdom teeth removed isn't a fun process, but Dr. Rainero is very experienced and competent. His skill made the process about as easy as it can be. Everything was communicated clearly and effectively. The only difficult part of the experience was that it was expensive and I had to pay for a portion of it myself upfront. read more

My then 14 year old daughter needed her wisdom teeth removed while in orthodontic appliances. My kids are a bit nervous about dentists so I asked if I could be with my daughter to help keep her calm during the procedure. That wasn't allowed and should have been a clue to me that this office was less than interested in what was best for the patient. After the procedure my daughter was agitated and pointing to her arm. Apparently it took a few trys to find her vein, to sedate her, and she also remembered part of the actual surgery so rose out of the anesthesia for a minute or two. Also a bracket for her braces was broken off. Granted the final results were fine, I just think the bedside manner left much to be desired. I would not recommend Dr. Rainero for children or young people. read more

My son, 12, is scheduled to have his four wisdom teeth extracted in early September. My question is not about the doc--I think he's well-respected in our area and he extracted a bad tooth of mine a few years ago with zero problems. The cost we were quoted seems really high, $2735. Since we all out of dental insurance money for the year, this will be an out of pocket expense for us. I'm wondering if this is a typical fee, or if it's one of those "price before insurance" costs that they negotiate down contractually. Anybody have any thoughts about this? I am seeing Dr. for an implant. Efficient and competent. Very good job of explaining all aspects and process over the several month period the procedure will take place. Good integration with the dentist office for records and other. Office staff friendly and helpful. Would have gotten a higher score if their financial policies were more flexible. read more

Dr. Rainero is an outstanding oral surgeon. He is a master of his profession. He is skilled with his hands, gentle and consummately adept. He explained in detail what he was doing, was patient in answering my questions, and showed genuine concern for my comfort. He has a very well trained staff, both in the treatment rooms, who assist with the surgery, and in front office, where the staff members were friendly, efficient, and accommodating. He hasn't missed any detail in the proper running of a great practice, even to the extent of having an assitant remain in the room while the anesthetic took effect, thus helping to lessen my anxiety. Dr. Rainero is quite a physician. Our 5 Year old son had a bizarre X-Ray finding from his DDS and we were referred to Dr. Rainero. He was able to get us in for a consult and schedule a biopsy procedure the following business day. He explained everything to me AS WELL AS MY 5 Year old!! It has turned out better than we can have hoped for. Instead of just the biopsy Dr. Rainero was able to remove the mass in the same appointment instead of scheduling a second surgey. His decision was truly about the best care and welfare for our son. He easily could have did a quick biopsy and re-scheduled us for another appointment but he chose to not put our son through the intensity of a second surgery at such a young age. I have trusted his expertise and respected his professionalism. This last oral surgery was for my daughter and was more involved because we had waited a couple of years longer than he recommended (don't do that!). His years of experience and thoroughness was exactly what we needed for this procedure. Because Dr. Rainero did such an amazing job, she had no surgery complications and her recovery has been speedy. Dr. Rainero is a consummate professional. He extracted my 13 year old's four wisdom teeth and the following day, there was virtually no pain, swelling, or bleeding. It was the same for me when he extracted an infected molar. The office is super clean and runs extremely professionally. A first class clinic with a very skilled doctor running the show. Amazing! Dr. Rainero took me out of my misery. Had a wisdom tooth that was bothering me and caused some infection inside my mouth. After a week of my original dentist not taking me in or giving me any pain medication I had to go into the ER to see what I can do. I called Monday morning to Dr. Rader office and his staff spoke to him of the situation and gives me an appointment for 8am Tuesday. Tuesday comes and Dr. Rader sees me and tells me the pain is from the tooth. He recommends me to the oral surgeon up stairs from his office and his staff gives Dr. Rainero office a call. They explained the situation and told me to come in at 11. One of Dr. Rader staff (really nice) told me to go in right now to ask about some things. I go into Dr. Rainero's office and he sees me inside his office not feeling well and feeling discomfort due to everything happening. His staff told me Dr. Rainero will see you soon and they told me whatever it is they will help me in anyway. He takes me in immediately, gets my X-Rays, and says it's the tooth that's causing everything. He said I'll take you in today and do my best. His staff and himself joked around with me due to me being a Dodgers fan and him being a big Giants Fan. Made me feel comfortable and actually made me laugh something I haven't done since last week. He did whatever he could and moved some patients around. Within an hour I get the injection put in and some laughing gas. That tooth was out within 5 min. No pain! Maybe later that day and the next but never have I felt better then how I was before that misery of the tooth and my original dentist not wanting to help. My original diagnosis was root resorption of one of my molars. I had never heard of this condition, but all specialists along the diagnostic path pointed to extraction as the best treatment. I chose Dr Rainero, as my stepson had his wisdom teeth extracted by him, and my wife was very favorably impressed. After initial exam, Dr Rainero confirmed the diagnosis and outlined a course of extraction and subsequent implantation. As of today, I have completed the lengthy process. If I had to choose 3 words to describe the Dr., they would be "skilled", "considerate", and "personable". Any questions I had, Dr Rainero took time to fully answer and explain every step of all procedures. I would not hesitate to give my highest recommendation to Dr Rainero and his staff. As another reviewer statated, their office is run efficiently, and it's a very clean, modern facility. If you require oral surgery/extraction, do yourself a favor and set an appointment at their office. read more

I went to Dr. Rainero for a tooth extraction of a cracked tooth (#19). He attempted to numb the area 3 times with lidocaine injections at 20 minute intervals, but failed. The injections were extremely painful, unlike any previous injections I have ever had, and actually caused me to cry out loudly. After the third injection, he insisted the area must be numb, even though I told him the area around the tooth to be extracted continued to hurt. He proceeded to try to pull out the tooth, but finally stopped because I was literally screaming with pain! He told me to come back the next day and he would put me to sleep, giving me acetaminophen with codeine for the pain. At this point, my left lower teeth, the left side of my tongue, and even my left ear were in extreme pain. The following day, he put me to sleep and extracted the tooth. He never talked to me after the extraction. At this point, my left lower teeth, the left side of tongue, and left ear were still in extreme pain, and I also developed a headache on the left side. After two days of extreme pain, which the acetaminophen with codeine could not overcome, I called the "on call" dentist (it was a Sunday) and he graciously saw me that afternoon. He told me there was no infection and I did not have dry socket, so I should increase the dosage of painkiller. The pain did not subside. Finally, I went to a neurologist, who told me the pain was due to nerve injury caused by the lidocaine injections. Now, two months later, I am still suffering from jaw and face numbness, and tongue pain, and am taking the nerve pain medicine, Gabapetin, prescribed by the neurologist. I believe that if Dr. Rainero had paid attention to my protestations of the pain he was causing me, this never would have happened. read more
