I have a huge Southern Magnolia in my front yard that has been showing signs of stress, including cracked bark and many dead branches. I have made the mistake in the past of hiring regular tree trimmers that often butchered the tree, including topping it by 10 feet or so. Big mistake! Thank God I hired a true arborist (Bryan) at David's Tree Service. For $200, he spent one hour walking my entire property and giving me pointers on all my trees and shrubs. That $200 applied to the treatment his company gave the Magnolia, which had developed a canker disease. I learned so much from Bryan and plan to use Davi'ds Tree Service from now on! Did you know that single-trunked trees should never be topped? Bryan explained that the new branches will now grow vertically to compete with the main trunk, ruining the natural look of the tree. Too bad the local tree trimmers don't seem to know this fact. Look around your area and see how many trees they've destroyed. The arborist recognized the problem immediately and recommended a treatment. I think the company is very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. I had a very good experience with them today. They came out yesterday to provide me a quote and called me before the end of the day and said they had an opening for today. The quote was half the price I was expecting and Grant who came out was great! I even reached out to him by text towards the end of the job and he called me promptly to help me out with something. My HOA uses a competitor of theirs but that competitor recommended David's Tree Service and said that they do residential and the same quality of work we do. I was happy to see labeled vehicles and uniforms. I was happy with the contract and how they explained with definitions of all the services they would be providing. We used David's approximately two years ago to trim our backyard trees (Lime and a Crate Myrtle). We scheduled service again on the same two trees. We were told the crew would arrive at our home between noon and 3PM (why is it always in the middle of the day?). By 2:30, they had not yet arrived. I called the office and the representative said she would check with the crew. She called me back at ~ 2:50 to let me now they crew could not make it today and she wanted to reschedule. We will never use David's again and we suggest you do so with caution if your time is valuable. read more

I had my 20 year tree service company retire so I looked to try out this company after looking for an experienced, licensed and bonded company. They did send out an arborist to look over my yard and provide me a quote. He took a lot of pictures which I think helps so there is no misunderstanding. He did make a few mistakes on which trees to prune and how so he came out again to correct that on the quote. I had to remove some trees, get new ones, trim everything (19 trees) on a job that was $6,000 for everything. They did a good job on the trimming/pruning. Unfortunately, my sprinkler lines were broken when they planted the new trees which they do warn you about. What I didn't do that I would recommend to others is to make sure you mark where the clear out drains are. I didn't do this and my drain got buried with the new trees. It took us over a week to find it and we were almost to the point of taking out the new trees to find it. Our gardener came and was helping us dig out the entire area (yes we used a snake, ran water etc). This was after the week we took to fix the sprinkler lines. So just be sure to plan for broken sprinkler lines and mark the drains to save yourself some aggravation. read more

Matthew Green of David's Tree Service falsely represents that he is a certified arborist. He is not. (No valid certification with ISA, who he claims to be certified under: cert #WE 10167A is invalid) When confronted, he then tried to cover it up and say it was a "misunderstanding" and his certification was on "appeal". ISA stated this is false. Additionally, months later he is still not certified and David's Tree Service persists in advertising him as such. It's foolish on their part; they're exposing themselves to liability by employing his services when he's not certified. Most recently I found a living tree root that he was supposed to have severed growing on my property. This was confirmed by a registered arborist. Matt Green missed it. I had another service sever it and install a barrier. Dishonest and inept. read more

We recently bought a house with a bunch of fruit trees that we have no idea how to take care of. After reading Yelp reviews, we reached out to a few tree companies with arborists on staff to find out if we could pay them to come out and teach us how to care for our trees. Maria answered my email very fast and was super helpful. She said that yes, they could send an arborist out for a consultation for a small fee. (couple hundred bucks) They sent Matthew out and oh. my. gosh. Matthew KNOWS HIS STUFF! He was a wealth of knowledge and answered all our crazy questions. We now feel prepared to care for our trees and we know so much more about them. He was very hands on and really showed us everything he was talking about. He was great at putting things into layman's terms too. He didn't try to upsell us on any services, although he did explain what they could do to help if we wanted. We appreciated the no-pressure aspect. The only weird thing about David's was that it was reiterated several times (over email and phone) by Maria that we had to pay him upfront. This was totally fine but her continued request for this was a little off-putting. However, I'm assuming they've been burned before and it wasn't a problem. Can't complain about these hardworking guys. We needed to remove an old stump that had roots going every which way in the front yard. This stump-grinding would require some strong machinery. We also had a couple of trees in the backyard that we wanted to remove. Problem with the backyard is that we have very little access. No worries, mr John C. In the front office arranged for Matt the arborist to have a look. Matt identified the trees and explained the process. We scheduled the tree service and three big trucks with machinery and a boom lift show up exactly at the time we scheduled. Gus, the foreman and the crew took a look around, gaged the access points, asked us to move our cars, and put up plywood barriers to prevent damage to the house. The stump-grinder is awesome. It churned the big stump into tiny bits and pieces, and then the crew pulled up the extended roots. The backyard trees were chopped down and sections were carried over a block wall using the boom lift. The sections of the tree were put into a chipper and branches and leaves had no impact on the operation. We asked to keep a chunk of the big trunk and there was no problem. We have used David's Tree Service for a couple of years at our residence, but upon needing help with determining a plan for a struggling olive tree, they've gone completely silent on me despite taking my money. Long story short, we agreed to soil samples for lab analysis earlier this Spring, and they've still yet to produce a course of action for us. It took me half a dozen calls over 2-3 months time just to get a return call from the arborist (Matthew Green) who took on our project. Despite him promising "next steps" in August we've not seen those or any return calls nor follow-up otherwise. Now, my most recent calls to their office (this Fall) have been met with silence. They may know trees, but not good customer service. I sincerely hope the business operator sees this post and tries to reach out to make things right. The only stars are for the one actual worker who did all of the work on our tree line. He was fast and furious, he climbed every tree in the line and hand trimmed them. However, the company itself is pretty shady. We have a 5-tree line that was shedding into the pool and hot tub. They're pretty tall, and we couldn't trim them ourselves so we looked for a company to do it. They sent an arborist over to assess the situation, and he said that it would take a crew "about 6-7 hours" or what would equate to a full day of trimming. He said that because their crew would have to spend a full day here, it would cost well over $2000. That logic works, it's a full day their crew and equipment is tied up. They sent a quote for $2600, which was only a quote and would be finalized after the work was done. However - it ended up taking one guy (his 2 coworkers stayed on the ground and cleaned up as he trimmed) THREE HOURS to finish the job. I had just had a major surgery so I laid in bed watching the entire process. It took an extra 30 minutes or so to clean up the mess and they were gone. But when we asked about the fact that the quote was way off - we were told sorry, it won't be changed. So they essentially charged us $743 an hour for one guy to trim, and two guys to clean his trimmings. They hosed us bigtime. We'll need these trees trimmed probably 2-3 times every year and David's will definitely not be the place we use for that maintenance. read more

Destroyed my avocado tree, took all my avocados after being told not to, cut way more than I told them to and cut trees they were not supposed to. I'm so beyond angry, this is a useless company who made the experience horrible from when they arrived to when I got home from work and saw none of my instructions were followed and they ransacked all the avocados and lemons from my yard as well as stepped on and trampled all the flowers in my flowerbed I now have to replace. Unacceptable as a tree trimming company. My little tree was caught in the winds last month and was blown over, stopped only because it was resting on my shed. I called three places in Huntington Beach. The other two companies were going to charge me the same price and, sight unseen, told me there was no saving my tree. David's had me send photos and then had they had their arborist call me back and he said he thought the tree could be salvaged. He came personally to evaluate the situation. A few weeks later, a team of three guys came to stake and trim the tree and trim a second tree. First, they didn't "top" my trees. They left them natural looking and trimmed appropriately so they retained a nice shape and in a way that is healthier for the tree. Charged $525 to treat 3 Palo Verde trees. The "Arborist" stated that the treatment would keep pests away for 12-14 months. 3 months later the caterpillars are back in abundance. I called and spoke to the "the director business operations " who claimed the Arborist who did the job had fled the country! He said that the treatment wasn't guaranteed but maybe he could do a free treatment. Then of course he decided he would charge $250. I recommend staying away from David's Tree Service. Its a RIP off. If I could give more stars I would. We have only lived in this house 8 months and had a 50 ft. eucalyptus fall over in our back yard. I contacted a handful of arborist from Yelp to give me a quote on tree removal and do a full inspection of all other trees on our lot. I have nothing negative to say about the other companies that came out but Matthew from David's Tree Service just really seemed to be extremely educated in all tress and spent a lot of time educating us on everything we had growing. He determined we had one other eucalyptus that was going to fall over soon. But, the other four remaining were in great shape. Also evaluated all other trees and let us know the good and bad on all. Quote prepared was fair for all the work proposed. Christian and his crew showed up right on time and did a fantastic job on removal of trees, professionally trimming other trees that had been butchered over the years, 4 stump removals, and full clean up at the end.
