Three of the stumps were overturned trees from the storms that came through a couple of months ago. One of those stumps that was toppled was 6ft high. Kevin had to cut the tree trunk off the stump and pull the stump back over into the ground then grind it. There was also about 20ft of tree trunk that he cut into 18" sections and put in my neighbors wood pile. Kevin is a true profession and worked into the evening to finish the job. Besides the great reviews I saw online, he is a Marine. Being a Marine myself, I knew he would do a great job as that is what Marines do. I was not disappointed. She felt James was not very professional at all. He didn't really ask about what we were trying to do or why. Just took a quick look, without inspecting the flooring, beams, or anything, and said he could fix it with about 12 pieces of plywood. He didn't explain his process, timeline, or anything. He didn't ask about, or offer, any other options we might've wanted to consider for flooring. On the way out, my sister said he mentioned that he could've cut our tree down for us (we had arborists in a huge tree taking it down), he could pressure wash, and do just about anything else. RED FLAG #1: TRUST YOUR GUT. We have the same nerve cells in our bellies as we have in our brain. If your gut is screaming about someone you've only just met, that's a problem. RED FLAG #2: For a basic handyman, being skilled at different things is great. If you're looking for an EXPERT, however, for a specific task/project, DO NOT ever go with a jack-of-all-trades-but-a-master-of-none!!!! Get someone who has invested time & discipline in their craft! It makes a world of difference in the quality of work. Overall, my sister reported that she felt very uncomfortable with both James and his counterpart. A couple of hours after he left, I get a text from this guy. But he met with my SISTER, remember. RED FLAG #3: Shouldn't he have LOOKED to see if the base wood was solid or needed replacing along with the top flooring - so he would know if "anything underneither is rotten"?!?! Then, this man, whom I've never seen, or met, has the nerve to text me (copied & pasted verbatim): #1 "ok when would u want it done mama" #2 "an pressurewashingwe can also do that too" #3 "ur driveway an sidewalk an house" WTH?!?! Good start. No follow through. We hired Josh and Kelsey to…read moreplant two lines of trees, put an irrigation system in place and take care of the trees for one year so they were properly watered in their first year of life. We aren't tree experts, but it looked like they did a good job on planting and installing the system, and we were excited about their approach to the irrigation requirements, and for that we are grateful. As far as caring for the trees for one year, beginning 9/14/24, it started out well. However, as the year progressed they stopped sending pictures (even after we spoke about it with a follow up phone call), and seemingly stopped caring for the trees altogether. They have been absolutely unreachable for months via text, phone (full voicemail), two email addresses, two Facebook pages and a Yelp message. We don't know what they may have going on in their family, but we would hope they could at least communicate with us if something significant came up. At this point it looks like the lines are clogged, trees are uprooting, water deprived and sickly. We trusted them to do the job, and they seem to have taken advantage of this trust we placed in them. We hope to still talk with them so they can make it right, but right now it looks like they took our money and reneged on the contract.
