Loved the selection of nail varnish I'd find with the individual lines and the sales associates were always so very friendly and willing to help. The chemist there was fast and snappy, if a bit frazzled and overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people that would come through on the weekends alone. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I could buy codeine over the counter in the UK!

Ruby and Millie is another well known brand that this boots stocks as well as Boots No7, the makers of the famous Protect & Perfect serums. There is also a pharmacy counter selling an array of over the counter drugs and medical items. Meal Deals are available also. This Boots is right beside the Overgate Shopping Centre.

Luckily they choose not to change round the store as often as other Boots stores do, which makes it fairly easy to find what you are looking for. The pharmacy is always friendly, although make sure to check use by dates on any prescriptions you may order - i think their sometimes lack of dispersal means the drugs often run out quite soon after you have them.

I came in to get some lip balm due to suffering from chapped lips, I was able to find what I was looking for, and the staff seemed friendly with fast service at the checkouts, and help to find the product I was looking for. (Impressive as the checkout area was only small, given the size of the store and the fact there are no self-service checkouts) As a small store, the selection is limited but is decently stocked given their size. Due to the size of the store, the facilities are limited compared to what one would expect from Boots, and offers the bare minimum, while also shutting earlier than other nearby locations, at 6 pm. 3* - OK, good location but much better pharmacies nearby from Boots and rival brands.

On a recent visit when I nipped in for a pack of chewing gum, the various foul smelling, painfully thin and toothless characters waiting at the counter told me what that dark secret was. Despite the pleasant exterior, the lather large amount of skagheads that visit this pharmacy for their weekly methodone hit makes it a virtual no-go area at certain times of the day. I've worked on The Royal Mile for about six or seven weeks now, and have already seen two rather sizeable, drink and drug fuelled brawls outside. It really is quite astounding that the powers that be send the junkies here, to the city's main tourist thoroughfare, for their pick-me-up. Given that heroin addicts aren't known for their early morning "rise and shine" attitudes, as long as you get here before 1pm you'll be alright, and will find a quite lovely little outlet for all your pharmaceutical needs.

They cover all the basic pharmacy items and, although not overwhelmingly friendly, we're courteous enough. Because of the Royal Mile location and because I would think they are an independent pharmacy, their prices were quite a bit higher than the Boots around the corner. Their package of 16 paracetamol was £0.55 here, whereas Boots' were only £0.16. That said, it is convenient and handy if you need to stop in here, and it didn't seem unsafe at all to me despite what the other reviewer said.
