This location was conveniently located almost next to my hotel. The selection was great, they have just about every popular brand you'd want (My Father, Padron, Oliva, Fuente, AJ Fernandez to name a few) plus some Davidus brands. On my first visit upon recommendation from the guy working the counter, I tried a Lord Baltimore 1605 Connecticut Shade wrapper and Indonesian/Dominican filler. I wasn't a fan of the draw so on my next visit I went with a Arturo Fuente Flor Fina 858. They had it labeled as rare 2 per customer and the price was fair at $9.99 a stick. On my second visit I actually stayed in and enjoyed the lounge. It's BYOB, you can purchase some soft drinks in house. They had a TV and one of the regulars sitting in there with me was a local and a great conversation. It's not a huge lounge, but it was a nice size and very comfy. I'd definitely recommend stopping in here for a walk around town cigar or a relaxing break! read more

I'm just passing thru Baltimore, after a nice dinner in Little Italy I want to smoke a cigar. But where? My search led me to Davidus Cigars on Bank St. Now Siri had me messed up, I was walking all over Bank st. I called a few times asking for landmarks but I found the Davidus Cigars entrance on s. central st. Once inside, I look at the many fine cigars. My cigar choice is a nice Perdomo 10th anniversary cigar. I have it cut and walk into the lounge area. Before I sit down, the manager, Shane hands me a cigar and says welcome! They just had an event and were handing out samples. Man I dig that! The smokers, they were a couple of quite gents, not too much talking among each other. The manager was playing with the TV, trying to get a video to work. Me, I was chillin' like a villain, just kickin' it while enjoying my Perdomo. The manager, Mr. Jackson , is friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming to visitors . I especially appreciated that he has "Mr. Jackson" on his name tag... this should help guide visitors and fledgling cigar aficionados in the dying art and practice of using respectful handles when addressing others. In the anti-tobacco age, it is hard to find a spot where you are free to spend your hard earned income indulging in something that makes the daily grind worth it. You can't smoke in the hotel room that costs half your monthly rent per night. So slide a couple blocks down to this shop -lounge. The selection is impressive. You notice the smell as soon as you walk in. Earthy and real. The proprietor is super friendly and quite knowledgeable about his stock. It's obvious that he takes pride in professionalism. As lost an art as cigar smoking. I ordered a Cohiba tin of miniature cigs and then inquired about a recommendation. He walked me through the varieties and directed me towards something that fit my pallet. Feeling quite comfortable already, I ordered one of his high end lighters as well. Then I sat in the lounge and enjoyed. As I drew, it became even more clear that he knew what he was talking about. Great spot. I will definitely visit again. read more

My friend, son and I visited this lounge when we were in Baltimore for a football game. The lounge is very nice with a large selection of cigars. The staff were helpful and friendly. I dont remember the name of the guy working, but he was super nice and made a good recommendation on a cigar to try out. We were there on a Saturday night and it was a little crowded. There is not a large seating area inside the lounge. All the chairs were taken and only stools were left. There is a large tv in this area and they had on some college games. The smoke removal system was pretty good. It got pretty warm in there when we were in there. Fortunately, they have a bier(sp) garden connected to the shop and it is a partnership with the restaurant next door. THere are lots of tables out there and there was another tv. You can also buy beer from the restaurant and drink it out there. We had an enjoyable time and would return. read more

Really dope spot. We sat outside and it was really nice on the patio. Thank god it was 60 degrees in October. The guy (I think his name is chris) was really nice and even suggested some cigars since I'm new to smoking cigars. It's a boy club but I think I can hang. Personally I have minimal interest in cigars but I found myself exploring this shop because my fiancé wanted a birthday celebratory cigar. If this is your sort of thing, you really need to visit Davidus. I was overwhelmed by the vast selection; everything from cigars to humidors to cutters to lighters and every other accessory you could possibly imagine. They even have a built in smoking room in the back with comfortable lounging chairs and a tv. When we arrived there was already a small crew of folks enjoying their smokes. We happened to visit on a rainy day, otherwise we could have enjoyed their outdoor patio in the back as well. The gentleman working the register was super helpful, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. To a novice such as myself, he offered a plethora of advice regarding cigar selection and the best cut for the particular cigar we chose (yes, there are different cuts!) So much to learn! As we were purchasing a single cigar, in lieu of a whole box, he provided a classy zip loc bag type thing to keep the cigar fresh and a box of matches. The staff is good, but the selection is not always great, the prices are high (and seem to get higher), and the owners of the chain are so bad it's almost comical. This is a good spot if you are not a regular, but there's a reason why a lot of the routine customers (who spend hundreds of dollars there) stop going after awhile. The owners are so rude and impersonal you swear they try to find new ways to be bad people. read more

Our favorite place to smoke for any occasion. It stays open later and has a good amount of space. The staff remember a face and a name and its always a good feeling coming there. Parking right now is harsh due to road work, but there is a parking garage across the street and its only 5 dollars for the whole day! The selection is great. They sell out of the good stuff pretty fast and tend to order pretty quickly. There are a few food options in the area and right up the street its food galore. You can bring your own liqour which is also convenient. They sell coffee ,water and some other drink options. read more

Pros: Excellent location, access to food and drink right next door if you want to smoke out in the beer garden, but be sure to follow the (hopefully finalized) rules about what stays in Davidus and what stays in Heavy Seas Brewery's spot outdoors or there may be embarrassing wars that I alwat hope would include jello shots and food fights but sadly, there's just a lot of talk... Also, excellent selection of sticks. However, some are rather pricey. Guess it's to cover the price of the location, the nice and spacious lounge and that wonderful open feel in a part of the city that allows you to walk to many restaurants and bars. Nevertheless, if price is your hang up, go enjoy a cheaper stick of tobacco-ey goodness and a beverage. Cons: Not many. Just the ever-changing rules between what is and isn't allowed outdoors as it's a lovely smoking and drinking spot. But hey, if I paid the crazy Baltimore City taxes and rent, as an owner I'd be picky as heck too! Oh, and you have to pay for street parking. Go and enjoy this new lounge but be sure to buy their sticks (and don't try to walk in with your own purchased online) if you want to smoke in there. Don't be one of *those* guys. read more

The Bad: I've been a Davidus customer for 6 years and I have likely spent a few thousand dollars in Davidus stores. These days, I shop there only occasionally and reluctantly. The staff at Davidus seems very hit or miss. Many employees are hired with very little, sometimes zero experience with cigars. It seems employees are hired more based on retail experience than a love of cigars, which says a lot. That being said, the newbie employees tend to be excellent at customer service. The older employees, to include the Castro brothers, are often very rude and blunt. I tend to prefer cigar stores that are gentlemanly and have respect for all of there customers. I am a younger customer, so I expect that I will be ID'd when I enter Davidus. I do NOT accept being snapped at as I enter because the employee is on the phone with the owner. I received a firm snap, and a stern, "IDs", followed by the employee pointing at the table where he wanted me to put them. I should have turned around and walked out, but I didn't. Another issue: pricing. Davidus is known to be more expensive than other shops, and their deals aren't great. The best example of this is the Padron 50th Hammer. A $100 cigar, right? Wrong. They are $100 only upon initial order from Padron, and become about half the price with re-orders. Davidus sells them for $100, and the Tobacco Leaf down the street sells them for $55. Online, I've bought them for under $30. Lastly, and most importantly, immoral practices. Employees have repeatedly tried to sell me cigars that were completely covered in white dust claiming that it is plume from all of its age. Either the employees are full of it, or they know nothing about the difference between plume, mold, and humi-dust. It is impossible for a 2 year old cigar to be coated in plume to the point that the cigar looks like it had a paint job. LOOK UP! You'll see an industrial humidifier spewing mist right on top of the cigars. And if its not the humi-dust, it is mold and no one should be smoking mold. To continue the immoral practices thought, I've also had an employee admit to me that he sold me a cigar he knew I wouldn't like just because it wasn't selling. At that time I was a brand new cigar smoker and had almost no money, so wasting that money hurt. Additionally, employees from different store locations have privately disclosed to me how much they dislike the management of this chain. Castro brothers, that should be a signal that you may need to make a change in your management style. Ken, VP of sales I believe, is also a person I have heard many complaints about. Selection. We get it, you like Altadis and GC, but the market likes boutiques and craft cigars. Expanding on boutique blends will most definitely do a lot of good. The Good: The house blends that Davidus makes, such as the Breakfast blend, Monocacy, Hobson's Choice, etc., are great and priced well. Some employees, to inlcude Nathan at the Frederick store, Russ and the Ellicott City store (who I believe has left), and an African American gentleman from the Sykesville store have all treated me very well. I am sure there are more great employees, but those are the ones I've noticed being professional and kind. Events at Davidus are typically a lot of fun. read more
