Things started out well. They came out, peeled back the grass, and poured some concrete. They said they would return to do the electrical work and move the dirt from the excavation. That was over six months ago. Numerous times, they said they would come on a certain day, but simply never showed up. At this point, they don't return calls, texts, or emails. The work they did was good, but six months is just too long to wait for them to finish work that I already paid for.

We then discussed the size and my expectations for the patio. He sent an estimate which I agreed too. I paid the deposit once it was ordered. He stated they would get started right away. His crew came over and started to work on leveling the ground. The dump truck showed up one day to deliver rock that was not paid for by Jimmy and the driver refused to drop it because no one was on site from the Odds and Ends Construction, this delayed the process. Once this was rectified, they installed the pavers. Which I did as the customer add to the project. I received a text stating it was an additional $350 for the pavers, to which I agreed. The delivery was the following week, and the rock was delivered by Jimmy on that Saturday. Jimmy and We talked about the patio and expectations for the finished project he stated he had 66 stone pavers to line the outside of the patio which I said I liked that idea and even text him to say steps was a good idea. Later that week on Thursday Jimmy text and said it was done and looked good. I got to the house to see the finished product. It was not what we talked about at all. I have attached pictures to show no step down, and it was a bunch of topsoil around the edge with seed. I then looked at the rock laid around the tree and it did not even cover the sand base material used. It was like he ran out of rock and did not even bother to completely cover the area. The pavers were not even squared up to the house off by 2 inches very noticeable poor workmanship. I called Jimmy and he would not answer. So, I texted him that I was not happy with the topsoil placed where paver step-downs should have been. Jimmy text that he misunderstood what we talked about. Texting, I reviewed with him and talked about the 66 pavers for the step down and no mention of mulch. He responded to say only, we would regroup. I sent pictures of the rock not covering the area he said he would bring rock out which never happened. He sent me a link to buy more to fix it. When I sent the text it was not squared up to the house, he said he would have to look at it. I asked why the final invoice was $1,000 higher. He said it was for the rock and topsoil. The same rock that did not cover the base materials and the topsoil I didn't even order. Now back to the invoice it was backdated 2 weeks which made no sense. I know contractors can do shady and questionable things, but this was just unprofessional. This is we're I messed up, I paid the invoice thinking he would arrive and fix the areas since he texts and said he would. Jimmy never came to look at it in fact he has not returned phone calls, text messages or email. Is this how he conducts business? Based on my very bad experience with Jimmy from Odds and Ends Construction, I in good conscious cannot recommend this company to anyone. Even though I am a busy person, I feel it is in the interest of everyone that I report this company to the Better Business Bureau!

I "commented" my…read morereview on the March 31st post that this person/company did on their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/hamiltonhandyhelpers . He subsequently deleted my comment so no one would see it. I am reposting here so others can see it and make their own decisions... My experience with Josh Hamilton and Hamilton Handy Helpers was not a good one. It took 11 weeks to finish my bathroom remodel. There were lots of mistakes made that had to be redone. Josh would send unqualified workers to do remodeling work..ie... he sent an unemployed electrician to do grout work on my marble tiles. He made a mess of it so much that all of the installed marble tiles had to be scrubbed clean to get all of the grout haze that was left behind. All of it was never completely removed. I am still cleaning tiles that have grout residue left on them. What made things worse was that the grout was applied BEFORE the marble tiles were even sealed. Which is a "no no". You have to seal stone tiles "Before" any grout is applied or you run the risk of permanently staining the stone. If they were professional experienced remodelers, they should have known that. There were also missing gaps in the seams where no grout was applied and had to be redone. Josh also sent a tile guy to do drywall work. The guy clearly didn't know what he was doing and it took 4 tries to get it right. Part of the problem was he didn't have the proper tools to do the job. He was using a painters multi tool to apply drywall mud instead of a dry wall spatula. These are just some of the issues. Others include incorrectly installed vanity mirror that almost pulled itself off the wall on the second day after it was installed. They mounted a 25lbs wood framed vanity mirror into dry wall using small plastic anchors. What they should have done was mount the install bracket to the studs in the wall so it can't pull itself off. Experienced remodelers would know this. The vanity light fixture was done the same way. I ended up fixing both of them myself after they left. They didn't even install the vent for my AC duct on the floor nor did they install the vent cap for my exhaust fan on the ceiling. The quality of work and the attention to detail was just not present during my remodel. Communication was sorely lacking as well. There were days that would go by where no one would show up to do work and I had no idea if anyone was coming. I have also come to find out that Josh Hamilton/Hamilton Handy Helpers does not have a contractor's license, which is contrary to what he advertises. After a thorough search of this website for the state of Virginia, https://www.dpor.virginia.gov/licenselookup . I can not find a contractor's license for Josh Hamilton nor Hamilton Handy Helpers as of this posting. And to my knowledge, he did not secure a building permit to do the work for my remodel which is required. I didn't think to ask. I just assumed. Big mistake. Knowing all of this now, I can not in good conscience recommend Josh Hamilton/Hamilton Handy Helpers. Buyer beware.
