The same dog food she recommended. It does not work that way!!! My dog either has an enlarged heart or she does not have an enlarged heart. Dog food has absolutely no bearing on it. My new veterinarian laughed in dismay and stated; "That is the most preposterous statement they have ever heard - blaming dog food." My new veterinarian completed new imaging and my dog and she absolutely does "NOT" have an enlarged heart. My new veterinarian showed me the imaging by Dr. Zue on my dog. The imaging was at a "skewed angle" so, of course, the heart looked enlarged. Dr. Zue is completely and utterly incompetent and should have her veterinarian license revoked. When we arrived, your front desk staff made it clear that nothing would be done until it was confirmed who would be paying for services. While this badly injured dog was in obvious distress, we were told that treatment had to wait while staff scanned her for a microchip--twice--just to identify the owner and confirm payment. What makes this even worse is that, according to your staff, the owner had already come in shortly before we arrived, yet no one had even taken a phone number from them, nor from us, to authorize care or provide consent. Instead of prioritizing stabilizing the dog, your process centered around administrative and billing details. During this time, we were also told to call other vets and even the Friendswood Humane Society, as if the responsibility for this emergency could simply be handed off to someone else. Rather than stepping up and acting like an emergency veterinary practice, your staff seemed more interested in finding another place--or another party--to deal with the situation. From the time we arrived to the time she was finally taken to the back, at least 12 minutes passed. Twelve minutes. In an emergency. When we left briefly to get coffee and returned to check on her, we were told she had required CPR and that "it wasn't looking good." I cannot help but wonder whether some of that delay--caused by policies and procedures focused on payment first, care second and attempts to shift responsibility elsewhere--contributed to her condition. From my perspective, Family Animal Hospital Friendswood's actions showed: * A disturbing lack of urgency for a clearly critical emergency. * A lack of basic compassion toward an injured animal in obvious crisis. * A policy structure that prioritizes financial logistics over immediate medical triage. * An unwillingness to fully own responsibility in an emergency, as shown by directing us to call other vets and the humane society instead of acting decisively yourselves. Nobody should have to stand at a front desk arguing about who is paying and being told to "try somewhere else" while a living, breathing animal is suffering in the waiting area. Any practice that claims to care about animals should have clear, humane protocols for stabilizing emergency cases first and sorting out billing and logistics once the patient is no longer in immediate danger. I am sharing this experience so that your leadership understands how unacceptable this was and so that other pet owners are aware of how emergencies appear to be handled at your hospital. At a minimum, I expect you to: 1. Review your emergency triage and intake procedures immediately. 2. Train your staff to prioritize stabilizing critical patients over administrative steps and referrals. 3. Put clear policies in place so that no animal's care is delayed--or passed off to someone else--over payment questions while they are in crisis. Although, it was 4th of July weekend, I knew in my heart, that if it was meant to be, I needed to let my dog pass away at home with dignity, respect, compassion, and love. I was literally walking out the door with my dog to go home. All of a sudden Eva stopped me from leaving and she had a different attitude and the paperwork was in order. I put down a $8,500 deposit for four days which also included a 2% credit card fee. SCAM ARTISTS!!! I found zero comfort in the updated phone calls every morning around 7am. I heard nothing on the other end of the phone - pure silence, which told me that Dr. Hardegree was full of it and giving me false hope. Basically, Dr. Hardegree bold faced lied to me. My veterinarian was in dismay regarding Dr. Hardegree's diagnosis. I told my veterinarian to examine my dog and call me back immediately because I am picking up my dog tonight. He called me back and said; "Your dog is not improving. How long will it take you to get here?" I picked up my dog about a half hour later. The total cost was just under $10,000 including a plethora of medications to take home. Less than 12 hours later my dog passed away at home. Although, my heart is completely shattered, I have comfort in knowing that my dog passed away in my arms. They took of care of her, and got her fixed up quickly. No fuss. Dalé (Dahl-ay) went in for a suspicious scab on her chin and an old dog checkup. And she came back with perfect test results and no lasting issues. At 13 my girl is doing fantastic. Throughout our visits, the staff have been fantastic from the front desk to the technicians to the veterinarians. Everyone has been very welcoming. The dogs have been very comfortable and everything was done with such great care. In addition to bail triage we've had shots, fine needle aspirations, and urine tests. There wasn't so much as a whimper out of them. Treats and cheese make them compliant. As we were going through questions and treatment options and things like that that we discussed cost so nothing was surprising as it came through.
