My wife and I were forced into personal bankruptcy after a business failure during the credit crisis. We retained Preston Gardner at Davis Miles to represent us during an already stressful and financially devastating period. Unfortunately, major mistakes were made in handling our case. Among the most serious issues was the failure to properly file a Motion to Compel Abandonment, which nearly resulted in us losing our home. In addition, reaffirmation agreements on an auto loan and second mortgage that we continued paying flawlessly were not properly handled, causing avoidable damage to our credit reports. The fallout from these mistakes was significant. We ultimately had to hire a different bankruptcy attorney to repair the damage and correct the problems created during the process. In total, the errors cost us approximately $30,000. Thankfully, with competent legal help, we were eventually able to protect our home and stabilize our situation. I have had a membership with Legal Shield for more than 20 years. I have used them a number of times and got decent legal advice, and I had to hire an attorney a couple of times. The representation was decent depending on the lawyer. However, I recently called regarding a property lien and I spoke to two different attorneys. They both told me to tell the title company to ignore the lien because it is not a valid lien. What law firm would think that a title company whose only job is to guarantee a clean title would just ignore a lien??? Alien is a legal issue that needs to be handled legally. When I called back a third time insisting I needed legal representation they indicated they could not help me, they refused to even refer an attorney, so I could not even hire one of their attorneys if I wanted to. Luckily I have a client who is an attorney at Goodman Law who once contacted immediately located documentation that the lien was invalid and got it removed from our title LEGALLY. Marshall Hunt at Davis Miles is one of the reasons I lost close to $500K. What a waste of money and an incompetent lawyer. He seemed constantly overworked, unprepared, and missed deadlines. He also never requested valuable evidence, like bank account statements that showed my ex business partners embezzlement and financial misappropriations. I paid for 2 outside legal firms to review the case and both were mind blown how much of a mess up Marshall was. He really hamstringed our case, which was very evident after firing him. Almost every time have requested to speak with a lawyer they are extremely short with their responses and give me the most short effortless responses (for them) possible. All advice I've received was of little help in any capacity. I was requesting this info through my prepaid legal service so they just don't care. Either way, my personal opinion, find another law firm that try's to do what's best for you, not what's the most time efficient for them. The attorney I worked with most recently, Monte Rich did not even read my file before he spoke to me, most of them also have not, that would require time and interest in my case. They call you and expect you to explain your entire situation. Even though you have uploaded the documents through LegalShield. He spent 3 minutes consulting me not even knowing my case, after I said a few words he realized I am actually being sued, through the entire conversation I felt like he was shaming me, after he realized I had been sued, I asked him if he could help me provide my answer to the court and his sat in silence! He never responded. After 30 seconds or a minute of silence I hung up. I called back to get a better attorney and they refused, stating I already have my consultation. I had this legal firm for 4 months... from my point of view they over charge and under deliver. Would not recommend. Maybe this is normal for this industry, but it felt like a huge rip off to pay $5000 every month for them to just forward what I filled out and answer the opposing council's emails with my replies. Their firm did nothing that I could see to move my case forward and just kept charging me for every little thing. They charged about $20000 and I fired them before mediation because I couldn't afford to keep hemorrhaging legal debt with no visible return on investment with no end in sight. I requested they use the least cost person in their office on the first day and they didn't do that from what I can tell. $480/hour adds up fast. After I told them I was terminating their services and to stop billable activities they used up my remaining retainer and just billed me for more. read more

We contacted this law firm with some legal questions about leasing agreement with have with our form landlord. We spoke to a helpful and informative paralegal and admin assistance, however when it came to speaking to one of the lawyers with this firm everything was down hill after that. The law firm reached out to us to schedule an appointment this morning for the late afternoon. We paid the $260 consultation fee and waited for out appointment time. We were very excited to finally have the opportunity to speak to someone about our problem. However when we showed up to our zoom appointment, the attorney was not present. We waited patiently for someone to arrive, but after fifteen minutes had passed and no one had arrived to speak to us we called the firm. On the call we were told we needed to reschedule our appointment, but were given no reasoning behind it. Once we expressed out displeasure we were given a time to reschedule for tomorrow. However not even 30 minutes later we are called my Mr. Davis himself and told they will no longer perform a consolation because we expressed our displeasure with the attorney. He didn't allow either me or my husband to express any concerns or questions about the attorney not arriving to the appointment on time or being given notice that the appointment was cancelled. He said that we were being rude to his staff and disrespectful, and agreed to refund our fee immediately. We have yet to receive any refund or notification from our bank that the funds have been returned. We had a very pleasant experience speaking with the paralegal and admin staff at this firm, but the attorney very beyond disrespectful of our time or the money we had to pay for them to answer a few simple questions. read more

I'm divorcing a difficult spouse, I needed someone to guide me and stand up for me. I was referred to Douglas Gardner "highest paid attorney" at the office. Expecting great results Sept 2022 - At first I thought everything was fine- I was disappointed in lack of strategy on his part and he'd have me fill out information and then he'd file it with the court- no edits. (I could have done all that for free) He then passed me to a colleague Greg Reinhart - at first I thought he's great - as my spouse has dragged this on. we went to mediation May 2023- after that he "checked out".  I felt he just wanted it done and get me to give up. July I hired a new  lawyer- she has informed me, in the mediation final document-  I didn't mention some issues that were important to me and now they are off the table. I am very upset that Greg did not strategize with me and then at the end of a 6+ hr day neglected to put in the document the other issues, to be resolved,  I requested in January 2023.  They charged me $36,129.79  and when I told them I was switching lawyers - no courtesy thank you - well wishes - where did we go wrong. the files they sent over were not with attached documents- I feel this company has one goal in mind $Money  and that's not who you need when you are having a difficult spouse. read more

Bumbled his words and embarrassed me on the one call I had with my ex, his lawyer and court. I ended up (actually my dad) paying well over $20,000 for what should have been a very simple divorce. He rambled on about stories that were irrelevant to my case and charged me exorbitant fees while doing so. He talks a good game. But failed me and now my financial life is ruined because he didn't help me get what I was entitled to and now I have over $75,000 in debt; no wedding ring and loss of DJ equipment I needed to make an income. I read Doug's article on "Divorcing a Narcissist" in March 2023. I couldn't believe how accurately his article described the man I was separated from for 6 months, and now looking to divorce. I went with a less costly attorney (who was also a family friend), and ended up switching to Doug 7 months into the process, after my family friend attorney dropped the ball, bent the truth, and left me/my life hanging for several months. Doug quickly and comprehensively read the details of my case and helped me get things moving along again in October 2023. My divorce was finalized 1 week ago (only 2 months after hiring Doug!), after months of stagnation prior to hiring Doug. He was easy to get ahold of, upfront, and honest about how my expectations/demands would be handled, did not paint a rosy picture but a realistic one, gave me all of the angles to consider, and he honored & supported my wishes on certain details despite his own view/input on them. The biggest reason I am so grateful for Doug, are his letters and responses to the opposing party within 24hrs, especially over a particularly upsetting situation my ex was creating over our daughter. I felt less anxious and stressed, I felt very secure, having Doug on my side fighting for me with intelligence and facts, rather than just arguing and creating more drama. Waste of time. Had this firm represent me opposing attorney took us as a joke and bullied us around. After 8 MONTHS and minimal responses from my attorney with Davis Miles McGuire, a lot of BS message from his paralegal saying almost finished with contract the decided to refund me my retainer to find another attorney. Had this firm working for us for 8 moths and did absolutely nothing worked backwards in fact. Often times i felt as if the attorney and his paralegal took my case as a joke. Explained that to both of them throughout the process, yet they still ensured us they're were working and close to getting things fished. Fast forward 8 months later they just refunded us the money because they knew they weren't doing anything on the case. Many many many un responded emails from the attorney at Davis miles and unanswered questions i would ask jinx Big WASTE OF 8 MONTHS... At least they refunded the retainer... otherwise I'd suggest a 0 star. They have signs all around the valley saying they're the only law firm you'd need. But when i hired them and they said they were working the case for 8 months and nothing got done. But they're the only law firm you will need. What a JOKE! read more

Nightmare! Very disappointed. Used this firm thru LegalShield; very unprofessional, they don't return your calls, don't know how to do their job correctly, you call them to follow up - they place you on hold for 20 mins before they tell you no attorney is available right now and they will call you back; but you never get a call back instead you get an email saying "we tried calling you" which is bunch of lies. They never call you and just email you and tell you "we called you." You call them back, and you go thru the same cycle again! It seems that they put your case on the bottom of the list (since it's thru LegalShield) and prioritize high paying clients. It's so frustrating when you can't get hold of anyone and no one returns your phone call. Absolutely will not recommend these guys; it's better if you find a better firm. Marshall Hunt and his team at Davis Miles are borderline incompetent. Marshall failed to name the correct party in our counterclaim, he also failed to address this concern when it was brought up multiple times throughout the litigation. He admitted to my new counsel that he was not sure who the proper members of my company was, despite it being fairly obvious after receiving discovery. I spent almost $90K and 2 years working with Marshall and Davis Miles, to end up having to fire them right before trial. A basic business attorney should be able to accurately identify the correct parties in a claim. He did not request valuable evidence I asked for like bank statements and credit card statements. They did not serve our default judgement correctly, resulting in our default judgement being set aside. When I first signed up with Davis Miles I asked Marshall if he should be paid via my company or me personally. He recommended my company paying the cost and then after further review suggested we switch to representing me personally. This caused issues in our trial since it then appeared like I was using company funds for personal representation. During the middle of mediation I offered a buyout to the other side and Marshall looked at me dumbfounded stating "I didn't even think of you offering a buyout", despite this being a basic step in almost any business dispute. Marshall and Davis Miles have continued to gaslight my situation and deny any responsibility. After firing Marshall I had to pay additional attorney fees to have my new counsel brought up to speed. I have not had an appropriate resolution offered by Davis Miles even though I have reached out to Alan Soelberg, Robert Sewell, David Williams, and Marshall Hunt. If you look at Davis Miles' BBB profile and 1 star reviews on Google & Yelp they cop out to saying they disagree with facts of the case, can't discuss the particulars of the case, and to reach out to them for a resolution. Don't be fooled. Davis Miles is the Walmart version of a law firm, but without Walmart's refund policy. I will be filing a complaint with the AZ Bar. read more

Both kept me in the loop, responded to questions along the way within the times set forth in the plan.
