Worst experience ever and I am not one to write negative reviews as I know they impact a business greatly but I felt I had to get it out there and warn others. I was referred through legal shield (I've paid them $20 a month for 12 years and did not need any assistance prior) was told I would get a discounted rate. Mr. Gardner quoted $3500 which I paid up front for an easy divorce. No children, no joint accounts or assets and we both agreed to part ways easily and agreed on everything prior. Somehow they ran the bill up to 12k and took 5 months to get it done. If you call and leave a voicemail, $120 for them to listen to it and when I would get a call back he would talk in circles running up the time. A simple email question turned into a drawn out letter with a response costing $300 plus. I asked to switch lawyers to a more affordable partner. Was charged $300 to switch. She was resigning and had 4 days left. She couldn't finish in time so was charged another $300 to switch again for something out of my control. As of a divorce is not stressful enough, this firm made it an absolute nightmare. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone, not even my ex! Save yourself your sanity and thousands of dollars and go elsewhere. Mr.Gardner does not care about anything or anyone, only making thousands off people going through a traumatic, life changing event. I contacted Davis Miles McGuire Gardner in Jan 2023 because my ex husband filed for a divorce. When I first spoke to Douglas Gardner I was very clear with him that I had been a stay at home mom for the last 10 years of my life and I have hardly any money. I told him the only way I could give him a $5000 retainer fee would be on a credit card that would max it out. He insured he would be able to help me. I gave him the $5000 retainer fee on 1/18/23. He started the process. 20 days later he asked for more money and I sent another $1202.58. We hardly got anywhere and the process was so slow. I had to keep calling him to try and figure out what was going on and if we were getting anywhere. He was always very short with me on the phone. Come March we still had gotten nowhere and he then told me I had used up all my retainer fee and wanted to charge me another $5000. I had no more money to continue. I completely got screwed over because they wouldn't continue representing me without the next $5000. I told them I had no money so I had to stop the process. I ended up having to settle and lost a lot and had to agree to a lot of things my ex wanted because I had no help. Davis Miles McGuire Gardner then sent me a bill for over $13,000!!! Thats ON TOP of the $6200 I already spent with them. I was floored. In the end I am now drowning in $19,200 of debt for them literally making a few phone calls and emails on my behalf. That's it! I came to them for help as a single mom with hardly any money to even support myself and 2 kids and they left me worse off then I would have been if I would have never contacted them in the first place. I am not a person that complains. This is actually the first complaint I have EVER put online. But when I was at the worst and darkest time of my life, in need of some major help, they took advantage and left me drowning in debt. The matter ID number is 86089-001. To be fair, my wife and I were filing for Bankruptcy, but these folks didn't make the experience any more pleasant. I actually met with a partner (who we paid for up front!) and she was rude, arrogant, and actually attempted to set my wife and I at each other. Davis Miles McGuire and Gardner is a law firm located in Tempe, AZ. They cover most facets of law. They are NOT very good at giving accurate legal advice. One attorney claimed to NOT know how a particular law worked in the State of Arizona. They are always quick to refer clients to other outside attorneys. They mainly work with Family Law. They are also the law firm that LegalShield uses in Arizona. I definitely do NOT recommend Davis Miles McGuire and Gardner as a reputable law firm in Arizona. They also have an office in New Mexico. Their Fees are much higher than the average attorney's hourly costs. There are several other law firms that are more knowledgeable and more reputable than Davis Miles McGuire and Gardner. Spent my retainer of 3,500 as soon as he got it plus 5,000 , 8,500 dollars To do NOTHING I asked for.....I asked for more parenting time and lower child support. The Court Papers that I FILED and paid for before I made the worst mistake of my life by hiring him ! What's he do ? uses all my money to fight Temporary custody order that my ex has lost several times in the past. "Which he knew" I told Michael NOT to worry about the temporary custody order there's no evidence it will be dropped again , it's been denied several times in the past. What's he do ? Bills me my whole retainer to write a response that my WIFE basically wrote!!! Then shows up to the temporary custody order court date that I was never legally served, neither one of us had to be there. This is AFTER I told him I start my new job that day. NOT to show up, well he shows up "gotta make that money right?" just to hear the judge say it's DENIED again Then bills me another 2 thousand dollars. He's done nothing but let my child support get raised at that you know? court date he shouldn't have been AT! Lol. This guy is the only lawyer in AZ that let's a 350$ YMCA program that doesn't exist because my son doesn't go to a after school program get added on top of my child support WITH NO PROOF. Then apologizes for it after I yell at him for showing up to a court date we didn't need to be at then what's he do ??? Bills me 300 bucks for the phone call!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go with someone else please, don't make the same mistake I did. I will be calling LegalShield, and letting the city of Mesa know how the law firm they go through treat their clients. These people are thieves. After paying the original retainer and wasting a phone call, the attorney decides to leave the firm. They said, you can go somewhere else or stay with us, it's up to you. They already have my retainer and have spent most of it, and nothing has been done. So then it is back to square one with a new attorney. They ended up wasting more money on a phone calls. All till, it was over $6000 to get out of a contract that I had nothing to do with, and never signed. But these people billed me twice for super expensive phone calls, they are crooked! read more

Douglas Gardner is my hero! He came in and saved our case as much as he possibly could after our previous attorney royally messed things up in our child custody case. He worked hard to sift through tons of information quickly so that he could properly represent us vs my partner's ex-wife's ruthless attorney. If you have a family law issue, may I suggest going through mediation and avoiding attorneys all together. If after mediation, you really feel that you need an attorney, avoid Davis Miles McGuire Gardner. They talk a good talk, but they will likely destroy all sides of your families assets and there is an excellent probability that they will screw up important details in your case that will have long lasting ramifications with even more expenses. They will most likely deny any mistakes or horrible advice on their part. They are way overpriced and I doubt that you will get anything close to what you paid for. You will also find out the hard way that they our extremely friendly with the opposing counsel for your case should you hire them. read more

First impression of this firm was terrible. Called for a consultation and was told from receptionist (in which I could not hardly understand her as she talks a hundred miles a minute) that the attorney would return the call from 4-8 business hours. After about an hour, while on the other line, the attorney calls and left a message. I called him back within a minute and spoke to the same receptionist in which I barly could understand as she mumbles and talks a hundred miles a minute. I never received a return call and after a day or so, I received an electronic card stating the attorney could not reach me. What a bunch of fools! I gave them my cell phone number in which I answer 24/7 and they NEVER CALLED BACK AGAIN AFTER THE INITIAL CALL. I cancelled my Legalshield subscription the following day. If this is an indication how important the customer is to them, then better to call elsewhere and save your valuable time. read more

Pernell McGuire said our bankruptcy would be around $25,000 and he ended up billing over $80,000. We ended up having to deal with his brother a new attorney, James McGuire, instead of Pernell. He made promises in writing only to fail at delivering. Now Pernell is suing us for his fees. I talk to other attorneys who say they would never work with Pernell ever again. I feel sorry for this poor man who doesnt have enough work that he has to go after his old clients. read more

She talked over both my husband an myself on 2 separate phone calls and acted as though it were beneath her to help us with a simple letter as requested through Legal Shield. Would love to have continued to work w/ Mr Miles who was our first point of contact but we were shuffled to Gwen who took it upon her self to make assumptions about us and act like WE were the criminals. No one WANTS to be involved in a law suit & no one WANTS to be felt to as though they are less-than by someone who is supposed to be helping. Sorry we couldn't bring in the "big bucks" for you Gwen. I can't speak to every facet of their legal work, but I use them for my businesses through legal shield and have zero complaints. I have dealt with a couple different attorneys at the firm and all have been knowledgeable, courteous, and accommodating. They explain things in English and are always willing to expand on an issue if there is a misunderstanding. Additionally the deal I get through legal shield for their services at the cost I pay is honestly a steal as far as legal costs go, it's a great deal. I have had access to Davis Mile for many years as a member of Pre Paid Legal and found their services to be effective. I recently had occasion to use the firm outside of the Pre paid venue and found that I was unaware of the full range of services this firm can provide. Specifically I needed an operating document for a new company a partner and I are forming. I worked with John Skablund at the firm and Charlie Davis, a partner. The operating agreement had to be amended completely due to changes we made and John and Charlie were not only prompt and reasonably priced but very easy to work with. Both John and Charlie exhibited competency without an attitude of arrogance I had experienced at other large firms. I am now contacting them in regard to an 831b (captive insurance) issue I need clarification on. Update...I just love the law firm in Tempe,AZ & everything about my experience with legal shield. With this plan you can contact them by phone repeatedly about anything. You even get a free will when you sign up with them & can update it yearly at no charge. Only 17.00 month for married couple. HIGHLY RECOMMEND... I find instead of worrying about legal issues or potential issues I don't have to call a bunch of attorneys that are really not interested in explaining all your questions unless they can get money for their time which I don't blame them but believe me this is like an enjoyable experience because the attorneys are so knowledgeable & it is their job with Legal Shield to help you with your legal questions or concerns. Who doesn't have legal questions that they wished they knew the answer to? With legal shield you can. I have legal shield which is also worthless. every time I have requested to speak with a lawyer they are extremely short with their responses and give me the most effortless responses (for them) possible. Every piece of advice I've received was of absolutely no help in any capacity. It may just be because I was requesting this info through my prepaid legal service so they just don't care. We recently had Davis Miles do our estate planning and some asset protection stuff. That means they did our wills, trust, and organized some business entities for us to help protect our money and properties in case we are ever sued. We worked with Trent Woods and John Skabelund and were really pleased with them. They were both very professional, knowledgeable, and appeared to truly have our best interests in mind. They even undersold us on the asset protection planning! We asked about more expensive services and instead of recommending the services, which they could have done, they informed us that we really didn't need those extra services and would be better off to simply get a little bit more insurance coverage. How often does a business tell you not to use their services?! I thought that was great that they were so honest. Also, Trent Woods did our NFA gun trust so that we can legally own some firearm suppressors. We did a lot of research when looking for an attorney to draft a gun trust and found that Trent is the best attorney in the state when it comes to gun law. He seems to be the most experienced and really knows what he is talking about. He answered all of our questions and really put us at ease. I would highly recommend those two attorneys and their firm.
