For starters, funeral homes are hoping when you bury your loved one you'll fall into the 1 stop shop trap. Yes, I'm mourning but just because I'm mourning doesn't mean I'm NOT going to do my due diligence and shop around for the best price! I did just that when the funeral home quoted their coffin price and I about fell out my chair. I got on my phone and Googled some nearby casket stores near the funeral home..Voila, I found Atlanta Casket Store. The owner Mr. Washington is such a delight to work with and though I don't want to see him anytime soon, I highly recommend this store if you want something nice for your loved one without breaking the bank. We also got my father's headstone from here and the price was more than fair. Let's just say he beat the competitors by 60%, even by getting my Dad's picture installed on the headstone. **Note**It's located at the sketchy end of Glenwood Rd, but Mr. Washington's prices, level of service, and the quality of his coffin and headstones made it all worthwhile.

This was hard, but the lovely couple at Plummer Funeral Home were not only accommodating but just regular folk. They were understanding of my loss and had spoke to my parent before they passed, as they wanted to be certain everything was as they planned. They were able to send faxes and provide me with all that needed for the future probate court needs. They were also not what I expected in a funeral home, they were actually homey. I felt like I was being assisted by people who respected my loss but could have been family. Thank you Plummer Funeral Home for being the least stressful part of a challenging time. On the recommendation of a friend, My mom chose Wages and Sons. After reading some positive reviews, I agreed that they were the one. The facility was decorated ornately Although some might call it cluttered. Either way, it's a funeral home. I couldn't help it when I shuddered. We were doing a memorial elsewhere, So they worked with us on the price. I assume that they do that a lot. But my mom thought it was nice. My brother in law was there for the viewing Since none of us were up to the task. He actually volunteered to do it. It was way more than I would have asked. They were expedient with the cremation. Soon we picked up his ashes. It's hard to believe that he's gone. It's amazing how quickly life flashes. The next day we held a celebration of life At my father's favorite restaurant. It was a beautiful send off. I know it's everything he would want. I have to say thank you to Kent. He was gentle in handling our grief. The funeral home provided safety, order, and space for a viewing and a service. We did notice four different errors in the guide, so there's that. The Decatur Cemetery is the oldest known publicly owned burial ground in metro Atlanta, believed to predate the city's 1823 incorporation. Rich and poor, free and slave, and yes, quite a few CSA soldiers laid to rest here. Most of the walkways are easily walkable but some are not. If you're mobility challenged, there is still quite a lot that is accessible. Military veterans, legislators, congressmen, authors and judges. Even one of the delegates to the Secession Convention. This is well worth your time to visit. Please be respectful as this is an active cemetery and there are people here encountering their own personal losses. You can drive your car in and park to the side of the road, considerately. I rode my bike through the paths which was peaceful. It's also a nice place to watch the sun set. There's a few geocaches here if you're into that. Obviously, there's super old historical graves as well. Anyway, if you like Oakland Cemetery, you should check the Decatur Cemetery out.

Linda Thrasher worked with us to give us exactly what we wanted. Due to COVID-19, we were only allowed to have 50 people max. We adhered to social distancing guidelines & had our temperatures taken before entering. Hand sanitizer was also provided. The livestream was great quality for our family and friends who watched from home & the link is still available even after the service is over. The program was beautiful as well. I truly appreciate how smooth F.L. Sims Funeral Home made this process for my family during such a difficult time.
