I was in disbelief but said nothing and quietly left the shop. I later forwarded documentation (of evidence, where he himself mentioned the location) by email; although communication had previously been prompt, I received no response thereafter. Another reputable luthier quoted approximately $250 for the same repair with a guarantee. In my experience, the pricing of some instruments and bows also felt disproportionately high relative to their quality. Charging premium prices is a business decision, and customers can decide whether the cost is worthwhile. What I found far more troubling was the apparent denial of prior work despite documentation I provided. In my experience, that lack of accountability and communication was deeply unprofessional and ethically concerning. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this shop to musicians who value fair pricing, quality workmanship, professional accountability, and respectful treatment of customers.

Took forever. Got to the trial lesson only to be told the person we'd worked so hard to get wasn't available so it's with so-and-so. Uh. Fine, but we picked the other person for a reason. And booked another trial with the original teacher, only to get to THAT lesson and realize it's still not the instructor we'd been aiming for. While sitting during the lesson, another student walked in and was told "oh so-and-so is no longer with us so this other person will be your teacher today." What? So you're not told ahead of time? (The mom asked when they'd known this teacher was leaving and it was two weeks prior, but they didn't bother to give anyone notice.) I find it strange that you pay in advance for these situations. Anyway. It's too poorly managed for me, which is too bad because it is certainly a great concept.

Now when our granddaughters visit in the summer from Minnesota we rent a cello for one of our granddaughters, so she can practice. Sean Gotkin was very helpful, he told me they had an agreement with a local Luthier who could look at it and provide an estimate. The esitmate came back at $120 so I asked them to go ahead and do the work. It took a little longer to repair than they had committed to. When I went to pick it up, he charged me $100. That's what I call service! Why go to a franchise store when you have a local shop who does quality work with a local craftsman? Support your local business!

Well, they may have just outdone themselves. Children, otherwise gifted, may have their musical potential ruined by the instruction they receive at this school. Only in the United States - such so-called school would be under criminal investigation in elsewhere. Stay away!
