They provide a fun and safe learning environment for everyone. No matter what your goals are they will help on that journey. If you want to compete, they have some killers here to make you better. If you want to learn self-defense then you will learn it and you will lose the extra pounds and get stronger from the workouts.  The gym is simi-formal but allows for some laughs with family and friends. You're required to wear Prime gear (GI, Rash, Shorts and shirts) which can add additional cost but the designs are well thought out and worth it.   Lastly, Professor Marcelo is just the best. He cares so much about Jiu-Jitsu and his passion is addictive. He takes time to connect with everyone and makes them feel special. I am thankful for having such a great gym to train at.  I hope my review is helpful and convinces you to come to Prime.

However, my recent experience at Prime Jiu-Jitsu Academy under Professor Marcelo truly ranks among the best. From the moment I stepped onto the mats, I knew I was in a special place. The environment managed to strike the perfect balance - intense enough to push you physically, yet welcoming for practitioners of all levels. Whether you're an Olympic-caliber athlete or an older hobbyist like myself, there's a place for you at Prime. The instruction from Professor Marcelo was simply outstanding. His technical expertise shines through in every detail, and he has a true gift for teaching. As an older student, I appreciated how he emphasized proper technique over pure athleticism. At the same time, Prime offers as real a training environment as you could want. The combination of wrestling, judo, and world-class BJJ practitioners ensures you'll get an authentic, resistive experience. I walked away utterly spent but extremely satisfied with my training sessions. He has more certifications than any other Krav Maga instructor in the Springs, and his classes are the least expensive. He also offers several options for contracts (1 year, 6 month and month-to-month) so that you can pick the best option for yourself. Dean and his wife, Sylvie (also an instructor) are excellent instructors, giving a great blend of class instruction and personal attention. It is an insanely good workout, but I value it just as much (if not more) for the self-defense training I get. I love that I am able to use these skills and defend myself NOW, as opposed to training for years to perfect forms.

The focus here is on what Krav maga is about, you hope you never have to use it, but if you do, you are very well prepared. The classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday Mornings. Test your body to the limits and get ready for a workout like no other. Krav is not based on stances, forms or acrobats, instead it works with your body on how it reacts naturally to the dangers you face, and then builds on that. Peak Krav Maga trains locals in Krav Maga - an Israeli martial art. From the moment I started training, I began learning defenses I could use should I find myself in a situation where I need to defend myself. I went for my first class (back in June of 2009) and it was free (everyones first class is free!). I went to one more and then I was ready to commit to learning this style. They offer very competitive pricing and packages for 1, 2, 3 people, familys and more! They do have classes for kids and adults, and most of the offered classes are available during convenient times. The best thing is that the instructors encourage everyone to take each class at their own pace and always hang out to address questions students have after class. After many months of going 4 days per week, I feel I am in much better shape than when I started (I didn't even make it through my very first class), I have tested to level 2 and am just about ready for level 3 testing, and I feel if I have to defend myself I would be able to do so in a smart and efficient manner. Oh, and I lost a good bit of weight! I highly recommend this if you are looking for a good way to get or stay fit, or if you are looking for a good self defense martial art. I was a chronic fitness quitter until I found Krav Maga, the teachers here do a great job of keeping classes fresh and challenging. If you decide to try it out the first class is free and it's sure to get your blood pumping no matter what your current fitness level - the instructors stress that each individual should work to their own fitness level (good advice if you're out of shape like I was). As for what's taught, Krav Maga isn't like your typical martial art... you will be hitting something in every class, there is a reasonable amount of physical contact (they go to great lengths to train safely, the only rule is 'don't get hurt'). There aren't really any forms or Kata, just a set of guiding principles and straight forward combatives. i could probably go on for pages about how much I love Krav Maga, come to this place and give it a try. Oh, and they have some kids classes too, haven't tried those.

Last night, I was made aware of the dishonorable, flagrant and extremely disrespectful actions by…read moreone Mr. Costley, the chief instructor at CFMAF. These events happened to my 14-year-old daughter who was attending a youth group event as a volunteer for Pikes Peak Suicide Prevention, where Mr. Costley and other CFMAF members put on a demonstration that followed the presentation from her group. While her group were waiting to facilitate the next activity, they were seated as bystanders during Mr. Costley's martial arts demonstration. Apparently, to set the stage for his demonstration, this man made comments about how "females need to experience pain too" and how prospective students can learn to "wield power". He then approached their table an WITHOUT ASKING FOR IR RECEIVING CONSENT, grabbed MY DAUGHTER by the arm to "demonstrate" a martial arts move. She was understandably shaken, as were the students who witnessed the interaction. Immediately after, Mr. Costley turned to another young person in her group who was audibly saying, "Do not touch me." Despite this clear refusal, Mr. Costley grabbed the student, pulled him from his chair, and knocked the chair to the ground. Observers reported that the student appeared to be injured. One of her teammates was so affected by witnessing this incident that they experienced a panic attack. Not that I need to justify anything, but I will let it be known that my daughter is a tough gal and not dramatic. In fact, when relaying these events to me, she very much tried to downplay it and had bitten her tongue during the events because she didn't want to "cause a scene". After some silence on the way home, she became more and more upset, and she cried as she told me she felt "manhandled" and "humiliated". Her volunteer group leader also corroborated the events l, and to say I am enraged is an understatement. My daughter's boundaries were VIOLATED by a complete stranger and there was no apology whatsoever. Shame on you, Mr. Costley. Your actions go completely against what a good dojo should represent...honor, respect & humility. To anyone considering enrolling your child at this practice, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.
