As a preface, I am a huge supporter and fan of local theater, all my life really. I have found that even the not-great shows ("Mother Courage and Her Children, I'm talking about you) the energy and passion that local productions brings to the stage is wonderful. I came to visit DCP Theatre because one of my dear friends was directing a play there, and one of my favorite sequined jackets was making it's theatrical debut in her play. Yes, I gave a big round of applause for that jacket. The theater itself is decently sized, with a large flat gravel parking lot, a cute lobby and comfortable seating. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. The volunteers were to a person friendly and accommodating, and the 'snack bar' of home-made and packaged goods was reasonably priced. It's an older building, which they've been working to restore and upgrade with the funds they earn producing plays, holding raffles, etc. The play itself was funny, well directed (yes I am biased here), and a good pace. It never dragged, the actors were wonderful and I had a great time. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

WHAT AN EXCELLENT PRODUCTION! We saw "Murder on the Orient Express" yesterday and the cast, the acting and the direction was really good. A small local theater (that only fits about 130 people) has a friendly staff on and off stage. I visited this theater for the first time with my mom this past weekend to see Little Women the Musical. The play was great, the young lady who played Jo was a wonderful actress and singer. Overall the acting and singing was good, some were better than others, but for the price, $18, it was a terrific show, definitely worth the money, and worth seeing. The only thing was the seating was a bit unconformable to sit through a 3 hour show, but I still think overall it was a fantastic play and I would definitely visit the theater again! read more

This place is a dump! If you have a mold allergy, beware. The ventilation is limited to ceiling fans. On a warmer day, you best get a playbill to fan yourself. The seats are really uncomfortable, especially if you get there late enough to get a floor seat, which is a folding metal chair. The lighting system is the equivalent to using a Light Bright. The productions? Mediocre. The first one I saw was a family show and it was cute! So I went to a couple others and was so uncomfortable from the heat, the headache from eye strain, and aching back that the cost is most definitely not worth the discomfort. read more

This community theater is a gem! Nestled in the countryside, this homegrown center for great entertainment provides a comfortable, friendly and pleasant place for just about anyone interested in seeing real talent perform. It's been in existence for over half a century providing an opportunity for local people to see quality dramas, comedies and musicals, some for mature audiences and others for kids and families. And while most of the performers are amateurs, the presentations aren't. Everyone involved in the productions at DCP, from the actors and directors through the stage hands and ushers present and perform as well as any 'professional.' The joy of viewing neighbors and friends -from seniors to near toddlers - sing, dance and act their hearts out on this stage is a treat beyond measure. The actual building has recently been refurbished with all the work done by volunteers. If this us not a gift of love to the community, I can't imagine what is. Have been going to dcp theatre since 2008. Became a member and volunteer participant in 2009. It's community theatre at it's best. It's also the local home of DramaKIds International. I've experienced the benefits of it's long standing history and also it's more recent phenomenal growth. Sure it started out in humble fixings over 60 years ago but it's been recently renovated and renewed with over 500 hours of volunteer labor.. apparently I'm not the only one with a love for this organization... but don't take my word for it... come and see for yourself. It certainly appears that those involved in the production of plays at DCP thoroughly enjoy themselves. But my husband and me in the audience? --- not so much. I got a subscription to 4 plays at DCP for 2017. I have probably been to 100 or more plays in my lifetime, from professional to community theatre, college theatre, children's theatre, small and large, in the city, suburbs and country, musicals, drama, comedy...... I really cannot remember ever not enjoying a show. This year with DCP has changed that. Perhaps it was just something I didn't realize. Maybe this is theatre expressly for the friends and family of the players. How could one not enjoy a performance by an aunt, brother, mother or father? But if you're not a relative or friend, it's something entirely different. The first play we saw was Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing', a play we've actually seen multiple times. The acting overall was poor and the costumes horrendous. Everyone dressed in tight black pants and way-too-short black polo shirts? The 2 main characters, hefty in their appearance, looked more like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum than Shakespearian performers. Was this Shakespeare or a beatnik poetry reading? The addition of modern day machine guns to the costuming of the police was absurd. The only good thing in this show was the actor who played Dogberry. I'm afraid my husband and I walked away from this show stunned at its total lack of credibility and hoped the next plays would be better. The next play was better, Agatha Christie's 'And Then There Were None'. The acting was better, costumes and set design were nice. We thought, ok, this group just shouldn't do Shakespeare, it's out of their league. The next play was 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'. This might have been a better show if it wasn't so l-o-n-g and d-r-a-w-n o-u-t, and if the main action of the players wasn't continually wiping tables. The actors' performances were pretty good, but the l-o-n-g music sequences, most of which accompanied nothing going on on stage were entirely meaningless. I know people around us were falling asleep. The music chosen wasn't even particularly meaningful or associated to the play; it was just unbearably long and slow. It took 3 long hours to get to the end, and we were like, please let the last show be good! Alas, no. The last show was so bad, we actually discussed leaving at intermission. We had never in our lives done that before, or even thought about it. But, we decided to stay. This show was 'The Last 5 Years'. It wasn't until the last 5 minutes that I realized the 2 sole characters' story lines were moving through time differently; one going back and one moving forward. The entire play just seemed to me to be random songs. And it was ALL songs with almost no dialogue. Once again, the costumes sucked. They weren't costumes; it looked like they just threw on whatever happened to be lying around, including what may have been in the hamper. The set was plain. I'll grant you, the singing was fine, but let me ask you this - how believable is a dramatic romantic musical male lead, supposed to be aging from 23 to 28, who looks like Newman from Seinfeld? And his wife/girlfriend somewhat similarly miscast. I'm not sure I would've liked this show no matter who was playing in it or directing it or costuming it, but if one is choosing a play for this particular drama group, at least pick a play that suits its players! My husband and I walked away from these performances noting that even the young children's productions we've seen in the past were far better than these. Small budgets are no excuse, for I have seen amateur productions put together on a shoestring; with creativity, imagination, thrift store finds, and reasonable sewing skills, a great production can be achieved. It might be more to this venue's abilities to try doing some comedy, seriously. read more

A Sublimely Elegant Evening's Entertainment from the DCP Theatre There is something sublimely soul refreshing about an elegant evening of classical music. To be able to experience it without having to travel to New York or Philadelphia makes it even more enjoyable. Such a rare evening's delight was offered last Saturday by the DCP Theatre as part of their Outlet Series. It was a wondrously special and intimate Classical Concert featuring Jennifer Brozenske, Camille Eustice and Nancy Server Thompson. Jennifer Brozenske, a soprano with a dramatically rich and powerful voice, began the evening's performance accompanied by David Furniss on the piano with three wonderfully eclectic selections: Caro Mio Ben, Hello Young Lovers and Wie Melodien zieht es mir from Giordani, Rogers and Hammerstein and Brahms respectively. Camille Eustice, then enriched the evening with a remarkably stirring performance of Beethoven's Sonata Pathétique by giving full measure to the sonata's tragic sonorities. Her deft handling of the piece from its slow introductory theme progressing to an aggressive rocket theme was a true joy to experience in person. Nancy Server Thompson, a mezzo soprano with an exquisitely coy and sultry voice, then rendered a superbly soulful version of Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child by Burleigh. She followed these with Voi Che Sapete by Mozart and As Long as He Needs Me by Bart. Accompanying her on the piano was Beth Cohen. Rounding out the program's first half was Chopin's Nocturne and Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G Minor by Camille Eustice, who showed her flair throughput the night with stunning performances on challenging selections. The second half featured strong performances of Amarilli, Till There Was You, Summertime and Gretchen am Spinnrade from Jennifer Brozenske accompanied again by David Furness. Camille Eustice then rocked the theatre with skillful performances of Liszt's Spozalizio and Gershwin's Preludes for Piano I & III. However, it was Nancy Server Thompson's, absolutely enchanting and sultry performance of Bizet's Habanera from Carmen, that rendered the evening positively magical! Arrayed in a sensual haute couture, stunning black evening gown, she was the epitome of the most desirable Carmen on stage, singing so eloquently of love. How phenomenal would it be for DCP Theatre to render at least a vignette of Carmen on stage with this great artist in the title role! I for one will absolutely be in attendance! read more

If one is looking for the enjoyment of local theatre this is the place to go. DCP theatre is filled with the experience one would expect from community theatre. The shows, cast, stage, and performance bring that close feel to any size audience. Whether one attends a musical, drama, or kids show one rarely walks away disappointed. The updated renovations have brought better comfort and cleanness to the whole atmosphere at DCP. The friendly members and staff have always made us feel at home. Our whole family has become local theatre lovers due to all we've experienced at DCP. read more

My husband and I saw the musical "Working" at DCP last night and really enjoyed it. The music is by Stephen Schwartz ("Godspell", "Pippin") and James Taylor, among others, based on a book by Studs Terkel. The singers and actors were very talented and the direction was quite tight - get there if you can - the production is until August 1, 2015. Congrats to all the volunteers for a terrific performance.
