There's really something for everyone. Cons: - The clientele seems to consist of many entitled boomers depending on when you go. Each time I've gone, there's been a incident either targeted at me or someone else. Most recently a older gentleman started yelling at me and my wife for sitting in two open seat in front of him because my 5'8" frame blocks his field of vision. Apparently, there's an unspoken rule that you his single ticket entitles him to a two seats... - The concession stand prices are criminally high. I can find solace in knowing that I'm supporting a local theater, but $4 for a bottle of water?! And I'm talking your Kirkland brand type water bottle... not your pinkies up Fiji water. read more

I can't believe I haven't done a review of the county theater before. I had gone a few times prior to the remodel but the last time I went was the first time since the expansion. When I went they weren't selling tickets at the outside window anymore and all tickets were purchased inside. Someone did check my ticket but I had no idea he worked there since there's no dress code or anything and he was on the phone, but wouldn't let me walk by without ripping my ticket. It was just a little unprofessional. There were 4 people working at concessions which seems like a lot for a tiny little theater. I got a small popcorn. Neither the ticket prices or concession prices were too bad ! The lobby is definitely huge, I'm honestly not sure what else is different about the theater because my memory is terrible. But it was big and spacious. The theater appears to be the same size! I had a nice experience overall. I definitely would love to check in to getting member tickets! read more

We saw Manchester by the Sea here. It was a great movie. That being said this is a very nice venue for seeing non-blockbuster, independent types of movies. They are a non-profit organization. As such the ticket price is about half of a regular commercial theatre. The inside of the theaters are pretty much like the theaters in the late '80s. The floors are even sticky like they used to be. It was a little taste of nostalgia. This is a great venue to see a movie and is a great place for a date. read more

The County Theater appears to be the only cinema in Bucks to show independent and limited distribution films. For that it has my appreciation. I certainly wish the Newtown Theater, the oldest in the country, had the same policy. The digital projection is a big plus. I was there last Sunday for a 4:00 pm show, and it was packed. Not an empty seat in the house! Applause to the members and others who take interest in this institution, as it makes it a fine community resource. If there is any downside (and I hesitate to mention it), it is that when crowded, the seats are a bit cramped, and not as comfortable as the "big house" theaters. Too, sometimes you get some attitude from the regulars who have their favorite seats, and refuse to move over to make room for another couple, forcing them to sit apart. Not much the theater can do about that. Over all, a wonderful piece of Bucks cultural heritage alive and well today. read more

I used to like going to the County Theater. I've been looking forward to bringing my children there to see a movie. But they still seem to be living in March of 2020 with their masks and covid fear. I love small restaurants that can deliver something that big chains can't. Who knew the same could be said for movie theaters? This quaint Theater in downtown Doylestown was a delight. I come to find out that it is operated as a nonprofit business and even uses volunteers for ticket takers. Although small (they play only two movies at any given time), it looks like this place really belongs to the community. I'd gladly become a member if I lived closer. Great selection of high-quality treats. Everything about this place is better than the megaplexes that AMC, Regal, and United Artists erect all over suburban America. read more

The County Theater is my absolute favorite place to see a movie. First, the audience tends to care more about the movies being shown, so you don't get a lot of the distractions that are typical at a more commercial movie theater. The theater also caters to movie lovers -- they not only show a lot of great independent films, but they show older movies -- Spinal Tap, Citizen Cane, The Goonies -- classics to comedies to kids stuff, back on the big screen to enjoy again or see for the first time. The other thing I really love about the County is their food. It's nothing crazy -- some fancier sodas and the regulars, candy, popcorn, coffee -- nothing craZY, but the prices are reasonable! Reasonable enough that you don't have to sneak your own snacks in -- which I've heard people do at the typical multiplex -- just nasty rumors, I'm sure. When you go to the County Theater you get a sense that people (both staff and patrons) care deeply for and about this theater and want to see it thriving. The County Theater makes going to the movies fun again. read more

This is the best movie theater in the entire world. This one, and the Ambler Theater. Hands down. Movies are reasonably priced, especially if you're a member (which I totally would be if I still lived around here). Popcorn is also reasonably priced. And there are Boylan sodas and Toblerones! The movie selection here is always incredible, the theater is always spotless, and you can usually find parking somewhere nearby. I can't even describe why this place is so great. Thankfully they restored my childhood theater, the County, in Doylestown, to its former glory. Now they show alot of art-flicks and culturally sensitive and independant films. They have a great series of films each season and also show some "blockbuster" type films, too. Best part? We tried to see La La Land here today. The box office is outside, like in the old time movie theaters. The line was very long and slow-moving in freezing cold weather. We waited about 12 minutes, which then went past the start time of the movie we were waiting to see. Only a few seats were left and we had no guarantee we would be able to sit together or sit at all. We left without seeing the moving, wasting our afternoon completely. Won't go back any time soon. read more

I saw my first movie at the County Theater when I was a kid and it remains my favorite movie theatre to this day. It's a great place to watch both the newest indie films and classic features like The Graduate. They also have special events for kids like the Saturday Kid's Matinees. It's in a great location. There are plenty of great dining options and bars nearby that are within walking distance. But save some room for the popcorn - it's delicious! If you're looking for more mainstream films and multi-level stadium seating, then the County Theater isn't the place for you. Otherwise, definitely make a point to check it out. read more

My wife and I frequent the county almost every month. We enjoy the smaller theater atmosphere and independent films. The only downside is that films often run for a month or so, which can be a minus if you aren't interested. Otherwise a very nice place with friendly staff, good coffee, and great patrons. You can usually enjoy a nice chat with other movie goers afterwards in the lobby or just outside the theater. read more

How can anyone give this less than 5 stars? With the exception of a few movies shitty period pieces, i.e. the Painted Veil and whatever the latest Austen adaptation is), I generally want to see everything playing here. Free popcorn refills (I think), good soda and candy selection, cheap tea and coffee, comfy seats, not-annoying audience, nice bathrooms, cozy feel...I could go on, but I won't. Okay, one more thing: if you're a member (or have indefinitely "borrowed" your mom's membership card), movies are only $4.50 or something. You can't beat that! I don't go to any other (mainstream) movie theater because of the ridiculous prices and usually-bad film selection, so I'm just thankful the County exists. read more

i hate movie theaters. i don't go unless it's on a holiday (like thanksgiving) and nobody will be there. i hate the crowds of loud and rowdy kids and teens. i hate the jerks texting during the movie. i hate the rip off of ticket prices. i hate that i have to buy a bucket of drink for $20 when all i want is a small fountain soda. the county is NOT that place. this theater makes going to the movies an enjoyable experience instead of a headache. i just saw the king's speech here yesterday. it's been ages since i've been to the county. my husband is a south jersey transplant and had never been and this was a perfect introduction. the movies they show are artsy, the kids' movies are actually throwbacks to my own childhood (teenage mutant ninja turtles yesterday!). they also have live theater showings, ballets, etc. you can even rent a projection room for a video game tournament. super-sized wii party, anyone? i love this place. i'm also considering becoming a member - for a membership fee you get discounted tickets, invites to special events, etc. for a couple it's only $70 for the year. this place makes me want to actually go to the movies. p.s. the king's speech definitely deserves all the oscar buzz, by the way. read more

what a fantastic little theater in the heart of doylestown. on a thursday night, we went to an eight o'clock showing of 'the king's speech', and after all the hype for this movie and frankly, for this theater - i expected it to be crowded...but, it wasn't too bad! to me, this is a GREAT thing. the popcorn is delicious (which is hard to find these days) & cheap! i also saw that they put on frequent plays, and show old movies often, as well. i do believe we will be here often. bravo, county theater! read more

Don't waste your time going to regular movie theaters, you can stream all that online and feel better that you saved your money avoiding stained seats and obnoxious crowds. The County is beautiful, cozy and classic... the snacks are fancy, the movies are always unique and Doylestown is a great town to stroll around in before or after. The membership is well worth it too; I pay $5 bucks per movie! Support a historic landmark... my dream is to have my own star in the concrete out front. Just saying. read more

I think the staff here are quite friendly, the price is better than neighboring theatres and they have some nice snacks at the concession stand. I have seen quite a few features here, it is fun to be able to attend showings in town. I think it would be nice if they had more of a selection of movies, but it is great to have indie flicks. This is one of Doylestown's gems! The screening rooms are comfortable yet cozy (get there early and sit in one of the two back rows for the oversize, individual seats with cupholders), the food offerings are yummy (everything from homemade cookies to freshly popped popcorn and gourmet coffee/tea). The movies are great too -- mostly independent films but there are also special showings of classics and movies for kids.
