After responding to the post, I was invited to a viewing. The day before the viewing, one of their agents sent an email saying that 50 groups were interested and they would like the viewing to go as folllows: 1. submit an application and write a check for $50 per person 2. list the price you were willing to pay in rent Because this was a four person house, this was essentially like paying $200 to enter a BLIND AUCTION. Not entirely sure that is legal.... We were the first people to submit an application and indicated that we would be willing to beat or match any price. We have near perfect crudentials and credit history. We figured we'd have a fair shot. One of their agents contacted us this week saying we didn't get the place. THEY REFUSED TO TELL US WHY OR WHAT THE PLACE WAS RENTED FOR. Needless to say, I immediately cancelled my checks before they could cash them. Do not bother visiting a place being shown by City Houses LLC (Jo Ricks, Karl Operle). It is a waste of time and you could lose substancial money in application fees.

The program required that I take a 8 hour "first time homeowners class" to be eligible for financial assistance from the county. For the $50 that I was charged for the class, I learned a lot from the Executive Director (who taught the class) about the home purchasing process and what's in it for the lenders and Realtors. It was a straightforward and uncut lesson on how the process really works and about the pros and cons of the county program. I also like the unique structure of the classes...its very accommodating to working class adults. I highly recommend going through this company for the classes needed in the "Neighborhood Stabilization Program" or if you fall in the low/medium income bracket and are looking to purchase a home. Take these classes first! By the grace of God, I had a honest Realtor and lender because it wasn't until near the end of the home buying process did I take these classes and found out just how honest they were being.
