This is a good restaurant, with pleasant and attentive staff.... We had dinner on a Saturday night, and the place filled up quickly once the doors were opened. The tagliatelle Bolognese was actually fettuccine in a meat sauce, but not authentic Bolognese - which should be beef, veal, and pork in a battuto with red wine and tomatoes. The chicken in mushroom cream sauce with truffle was very good, but just a little bland. Adding some salt fixed that. The truffle flavor was perfectly balanced and not overdone. The house red was a nice Montepulciano ,a good value. The standout was dessert -torte della nonna with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Outstanding. This is such a wonderful local gem - the kind that you love to stumble upon when you travel - that serves authentic Italian food on Notting Hill Gate, near Kensington Gardens (Tube: Notting Hill Gate or Queensway). Scaloppa alla Milanese: This is aka veal Milanese and is one of Milan's most famous local dishes. The veal was lightly breaded and fried to perfection. The breading was golden brown and slightly crispy; the meat was moist, flavorful and very tender. The dish was accompanied by a serving of fresh sautéed green beans and some amazing roasted potatoes. Lasagne Della Casa: It's a traditional lasagna completely unlike those that we usually see, which are baked in a large pan from which small square or rectangular servings are carved from. This lasagna was baked freshly and individually in a small baking dish (please see picture) and I have never had lasagna this fresh before - that the sauce and cheese were still bubbling when the dish was brought to the table. It was absolutely delicious and delightful. I will definitely return to this restaurant just for the lasagna alone! This was a solid 4-star dining experience, but I am rounding it up to 5 stars because of the service. We got to the restaurant just before closing time and were surprised to see how welcoming and hospitable they were. Service was friendly, attentive, and not one bit rushed. My mom and I were told to come here by the hotel concierge for dinner. It was really close to the hotel and we both were tired so it was perfect. We shared a bruschetta appetizer which tasted delicious but could have used a little more garlic in it. My mom ordered linguini vongole (clams) and I chose my favorite, penne arabbiata. We both enjoyed our pasta which was cooked perfectly. We shared a delicious tiramisu which was not too sweet, very yummy. This is a really cute restaurant. The wonderful smells of an Italian kitchen entice you in, and there is warm mood lighting. The decor definitely had that Italian feel. Unfortunately, service was sub par; I could tell our waitress was eager to go home and was more focused on closing up shop than tending to us so we could be on our merry way. But, this has been my experience in most restaurants here so I'm not too put off about it. Luckily she went home and it must have been the manager who served us after her departure. He was much better at re-filling our water glasses promptly. I experienced some fleeting nervousness about leaving hungry once our meals were presented. The spaghetti carbonara looked very small, but it turned out the bowl was deeper than it appeared to be, and the pollo cacciatora (a special that day) that arrived two minutes later was adequate and came with sides. The food was well done, but nothing spectacular. Note that you should have a bottle of wine when you dine here. This made me progressively happier about the food's taste and I'm sure it made it easier to feel full in the end. read more

De Amici's is a cute Italian restaurant a few minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate station which offers a nice authentic atmosphere. The menu looks pretty good with a variety of traditional Italian fish and meat dishes. I decided to go for linguini with fresh crab which was on today's specials. It was tasty but after a few bites I was unlucky to bite a crab shell with my teeth, therefore the impression was ruined, especially because not during the meal nor after did the staff come to ask if everything was ok. I'm not the type who likes to compain deliberately, so I just kept calm and carried on, enjoying the house wine. In order to give the place the second chance, we decided to go for the traditional tiramisu to share, and that was proved to be quite satisfying. This was a wonderful experience. The young owner/manager waited on us. The building has been an Italian restaurant (including previous owners) for almost 25 years. The atmoshphere is simple, comfortable, rustic. Each night there are specials with unique emphases like young kid or mussels, etc, in addition to the regular menu. We ordered the garlic bread appetizer, which was simply two thick slices of toast with olive oil, salt, and some herbs (2.50 pounds). I would stick to not ordering appetizers here. I ordered the seafood spaghetti as an entree, and it was a pretty large portion. The tomato-based sauce was mixed up with clams and various herbs. It was mediocre at best, but filled me up. My friend customized a penne pasta with mozzarella and basic tomato sauce, and the chefs were more than happy to accommodate the request. We ordered 2 different specials- a crab pasta and a saffron halibut. The halibut could have been fresher. I don't know where the saffron . The dish was kind of tasteless. The crab dish wasn't much better. Maybe we should have tried their hand made pastas or something . Kind of run down and dumpy, but I love dives with good food. Ordered the Calimari appetizer, it was so strong and fishy despite being drowned in red sauce and canned peas. This quaint Italian restaurant makes you feel as if you are in the heart of Italy, even though you're in Notting Hill. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is so relaxing- especially after a long day of work or sightseeing. We had eaten in Jamie Oliver's Italian Kitchen the night before, and it does no justice to Italian cuisine compared to this little restaurant. Jamie Oliver's has a consumerist aspect, using the name as a pretense to charge high prices for mediocre food. De Amici's was moderately priced and the food was phenomenal. I ordered breaded chicken with butter and asparagus, which was served to me very hot and tender. The chicken pulled apart so softly compared to the breaded chicken from Jamie Oliver's that was burnt and dry. The food truly melted in your mouth, an experience that I don't often have with restaurant food. I've dined at De Amicis four or five times over the past few years. It's a great traditional Italian restaurant in between the Notting Hill and Queensway tube stations. The food is always excellent and a great value. They usually have an excellent ravioli of the day and house wine specials. The service is what you would expect at any family trattoria in Italy - no one is in a hurry, but everyone is friendly and helpful.
